The Walking Dead (Season 7, Episode 7)

The Walking Dead, Season 7

Episode 7, Sing Me A Song

Summary:

Current Time

Sing Me A Song beings with Michonne walking down the road, whistling, at least until two walkers come out and she dispatches them with ease.2016_twd_s7_e7_michonneswordskills  Then drags one of the bodies away – and leaving her sword and her radio behind. We do find out that she picked the sword up at some point because she eventually makes it to a Savior scout and ambushes the scout before telling her new captive to take her to Negan.

We then jump to Rick’s scavenging team waking up early in the morning in a box van before jumping to Jesus & Carl’s van. As they are driving Jesus cuts the bottom of a box open before leaving a trail of syrup out the back of the van. Jesus is ready to bail, and tries to get Carl to go with him but the kid stay stays in the back of the van. He’s got an M4 but  there are a lot of saviors. Carl is forced to shoot when men come to unload the truck and for a split second he could have killed Negan but he hesitated and ended up getting disarmed.

When we see Rick again him and his scavenging partner have found what appears to be a well guarded compound centered around a lake and a boat house which Rick suspects if full of supplies.

Instead of killing Carl out of hand Negan decides to “keep” him? He shows him around, shows him how the people kneel when he comes in.2016_twd_s7_e7_negan_carl

Negan then brings Carl into the “Wive’s Room” where there appears to be at least ten or twelve women in his service. He pulls one girl aside because he needs to know who skipped out on their duties to spend time with one of his girls. Negan makes sure that Dwight sees him kissing his ex before telling him to get the furnaces going – it’s time to teach someone a lesson.

Before Negan goes to teach his own man a lesson he sits down with Carl and forces him to take off his eye patch which kicks off a bit of weirdness. At first Negan is mean, making fun of Carl’s open eye socket – then he tells Carl he’s sorry, that he forgot that Carl is just a kid. Then they get interrupted by Fat Joe, who brings Negan Lucille which kicks off another strange interlude where Negan forces Carl to sing him a song.

When Carl is done singing Negan tells him to get up, its time to go. The brand should be ready.

Negan goes out to his workers and gives them his speech. They are the Saviors, and there are rules. Failing to follow the rules has a price. In this case one of his soldiers gets branded – both because he skipped out on his assignment and because he was cheating on Negan with his pre apocalypse wife.

After the show Negan and Carl have another quiet moment. Carl asks Negan why he’s still alive, why any of them are alive – which causes Carl to go off and tell Negan he should just kill them all. Negan tells Carl that Daryl is going to be a good solider – that he is breaking him down, and that Rick is already delivering goods.  But what is Carl going to do for him? This kicks off a road trip, and our chance to see Jesus again. He’s made it into the compound and is on top of the box truck that Negan and Carl are in.

We find out where Negan is taking Carl when they show up back in Alexandria, which begins yet another odd series of Neganisms. Negan ends up finding Judith before going to sit on the front porch to rock her and torture Carl some more. Negan appears to like Alexandria and he at least jokingly says maybe he should just kill Rick and Carl.

Back in Alexandria Rosita is pissed and sad all at once. She doesn’t want to scavenge for the saviors. Instead she forces Eugene to take her to the machine shop so he can make her a bullet. She wants to go kill Negan, but Eugene is trying to reason with her, trying to make her realize that there is a price to be paid for every action. In return Rosita hits him where it hurts, telling him he’s a useless coward. The verbal attack works and Eugene starts to make her a bullet.

Things I loved about this episode…

  • Dwights’s wife when she first starts to talk to Negan. She seems to have his number.
  • Negan showing his insanity – his ups and downs and how his own people are scared of him.
  • “I’m now 50% more into you.” After Olivia slaps Negan for propositioning her.

Things that I didn’t like about this episode…

  • Negan mentions that he’s not even going to have time to have sex with any of his wives – well except for one – which he says as he’s looking at Dwight- the one who’s wife agreed to marry Negan to keep her real husband alive. This seems like a bad idea when everyone has guns and it is the end of the world. Why push someone to kill you if they get the chance?
  • Negan is so sure of himself that he hands Carl Lucille even thought Carl has only been with him for less than an hour – and already shot up two of his men.
  • Negan picking up Judith.

Firsts…

  • We see Negan’s wives.
  • We see Negan Iron something.
