The first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series can feel all over the place. She likes Bill, she loves Bill, she’s frightened when she gets a glimpse of what vampires can be. And then she loves Bill again.
Even with all the back and forth you can’t help but fall in love with Sookie. There is something sweet and innocent in her, even when she’s doing the deed. It’s a statement to how well Charlaine Harris wrote her characters that you can feel annoyed at Sookie and still love her.
The end of the first book may feel a bit abrupt, but a lot more about why Bill wasn’t there get’s explained later on, so keep reading.
I’m looking forward to getting caught back up with Sookie, I read the first set of books up to book eight, but I know there are a few more out now, which means seven more books before I get to the “new” stuff.
