Fear the Walking Dead (Season 2, Episode 2)

Fear the Walking Dead, Season 2

Episode 2, We All Fall Down

Summary:

We All Fall Down starts with a super eerie beach scene. A few innocent kids are playing in the sand as the undead wash up on shore and begin to wander in their direction only to be stopped by some chain link fencing someone put up.2016_FTWD_S2_E2_KidsonBeach

When we come back from the first commercial break we are back on the Abigail. The logbook Nick pulled from the hull of the shot up boat has bad news for Strand’s San Diego plans. The city is already gone. Firebombed by the military in an attempt to control the infection.2016_FTWD_S2_E2_LogBook

To make matters worse the ship that is following them isn’t giving up and its tracking their every move.

Strand decides to hug the coast while the others convince him to stop in at an island refuge. When they get there they see lights but the walk up to the house is quiet and tense. The homeowner comes out but he tells them the light was an accident. They didn’t mean to signal anyone. The ranger at the station lets them come in and goes through the map, telling Travis the rangers stations at the national park went out one by one.

Inside the house the rest of the families mingle, the kids excited to meet other survivors. The island family has something just a little bit off with them. Nick is worried about the kids while Madison thinks the mom might be afraid to ask for help.

The next morning Chris is stalking about and sees one of island families son going down to the beach to do “maintenance”. It’s time to kill the beach walkers with a pick ax. When Travis wakes up he immediately starts to look for Chris. He finds Chris on the beach helping to clear the fence.2016_FTWD_S2_E2_Fence_Clearing

Travis ends up going out with the survival families dad to repair other fencing. There is a community on the other side of the island and if they came to the ranger’s house they’d be up sheet creek.

Then things turn super sad as Nick goes on a scavenging hunt, looking for meds and drugs. He finds a bag of yellow pills before the little girl finds him and drags him away to draw.

Back on the boat Strand sees that their shadow boat had passed them by. It’s time to go back to the open ocean. He plans on leaving with the tide. We then cut to Madison helping the island wife working in the garden. Madison asks her if the signal was an accident. The island wife says she saw them and that maybe her kids would be safer on the boat. Madison asks if they would come with them. The mom wants them to take the two little ones.

While Madison and Travis are talking about possibly taking the two little kids Daniel is searching the main cabin and finds an MP5. While this is going on Strand is on a sat phone or radio, telling someone else that he’ll be there.

When Nick finds his mom and Travis he tells them he thinks George (island dad) is planning on poisoning his family. He thinks the pills he found are poison.

Back in the house the mom appears to have convinced Team Travis to take her kids. You think it’s going to be a fight when the little kid comes running down the steps – something is wrong with his sister. She took her “power pill”. Her mom ends up getting her throat torn out when the little girl turns.

Team Nick tries to take the little kid but his older brother stops them. He takes the kid back onto the pier just in time to kill see their mom, already turned, stumbling towards them.

The last thing we see before the episode ends is Team Nick waving from the boat while the island families oldest son is forced to shoot his own mother.

Things I loved about this episode…

  • The uber creepy feeling of watching the undead crawl out of the sea and start to shamble towards the kids.
  • Daniel (The Butcher) keeping himself and Ofelia on the boat to make sure Strand doesn’t just leave them behind.
  • Little Kid when Nick asks him why the one action figure has a hole in its head. “It’s what has to happen now when you get sick.” Sad but honest.
  • Nick – “I know my pharmaceuticals.” Darkly funny.

Things that I didn’t like about this episode…

  • Chris being such a d*ck to his father. Wouldn’t a part of him cling to his father because its all he has left?
  • Madison & Travis really think that the island family husband is going to let them take their two little kids? Come on.
  • The poor little girl taking her power pill. Come on George, you should have hidden them better.

Main Characters:

  • Nick Clark – Starts the season off by finding his girlfriend turned into a walker in a church. Has a addition problem.
  • Alicia Clark – Nick’s sister. Has already lost her boyfriend to the virus.
  • Madison Clark – Mother to Nick and Alicia. She worked at the high school where she met Travis Manawa, her boyfriend.
  • Travis Manawa – School teacher and Madison’s love interest.
  • Chris Manawa – Travis’s son.
  • Daniel Salazar – The Barber who shelters Team Travis in Episode 2.
  • Ofelia Salazar  – The Barber’s cute daughter.
  • Strand – The Instigator who Nick met in the detention center in Season 1, Episode 5.
  • Jack the Radio Dude – Alicia’s radio boyfriend.

Bad Gun Handling – Pants Gun

Never ever put a gun down your pants. It only works in movies.

Putting a gun into your belt without a holster is a sure way to eventually shoot some bit of yourself off or possibly worse, leave it on a chair or on the floor of the restroom for some kid to pick up when you don’t realize it slipped free.

If you can’t afford a good holster then you can’t really afford that firearm

End of story.

Fear the Walking Dead (Season 2, Episode 1)

Fear the Walking Dead, Season 2

Episode 1, Monster

Summary:

The Season 2 premiere, Monster kicks off the new season of Fear the Walking Dead tonight! I can’t wait to see how Nick’s story moves forward.

Monster kicks off the the usual little recap of where last season left off. Strand has convinced them to make the run for Abigail, the boat out in the water by his house. Strand, Nick and a few others make it to the boat but the rest of the family is left on the beach as a horde appears.  Things aren’t much better out on the Abigail, it looks like some other survivors might have had the same idea about getting off the mainland.

Everyone makes it aboard the Abigail and Strand guides them away from the mainland as it burns behind them.

Strand must have had a lot of cash before the ZA started. The Abigail has a range of 3000 miles and Strand is sure that they can survive a good long time on the boat.

Of course Team Nick is just getting under way when they come across a raft full of survivors. Madison wants Strand to stop the boat but he wants none of it. Strands’s a survivor and he knows that the more people they take on board the less time the supplies on the Abigail will last.

Strand points the boat towards San Diego and leaves the other boats behind.

Everyone is suffering and dealing with their stress in their own ways. Alicia clings to the task Travis gave her and works the radio until she stumbles onto a young man’s voice begging for someone to talk to him.

While Chris and Daniel (The Barber) fish Alicia is pouring her heart out to her new Radio boyfriend. He’s on a little boat, not like the Abigail. You can see the moment that Alicia starts to think that his suggestion of Hawaii might be a good idea. So the big question is – Who is this guy? Is he for real or just trying to lure Alicia in so he can steal their boat?

Madison and Daniel end up on the back of the deck, both of them wondering what makes Strand tick. Why was he packing and ready to run before the bombs were dropping? Did he have some foreknowledge of what was coming?

A little later the families get together to bury Travis’s first wife at sea. Chris stands a little apart, struggling with the loss of his mother and the knowledge that his father had to put a bullet in her head before she turned. Chris grabs the table and drops his mother into the sea in a rage.

After the funeral Strand overhears Alicia talking about Jack and looses it a little. He’s pissed that Alicia may have given up any information about them and reminds everyone in no uncertain terms that Abigail is his.

Everyone is about to eat when Chris decides to go for a swim. Nick jumps in, stopping him before he can get too far, and as he’s swimming he comes face to face with one of the infected.2016_FTWD_S2_E1_ZombieInWater

While this is going on Alicia is getting a scary reply from Jack. Alicia tells him its too dangerous, they can’t come pick up him and his family members and he tells her its okay. He already “has” her and he’ll see her shortly.

Chris and Nick are in the water with a lot of the undead but Nick hears something. Someone is stuck in the overturned boat that apparently put the infected in the water. As Nick is heading for the boat we see that it has been shot up. It looks like Jack and his pirates have already been up to no good.

Nick comes face to face with a biter in the upturned boat and comes back out with the boats logbook before Strand sees something coming on the radar. It’s time to haul ass but the Abigail can only pull 20 knots and whatever is coming at them is doing 25.

Which leaves us hanging until next week. Did Alicia screw them over by talking to Jack? Who is burning fuel to bear down on them? What do they want?

Things I loved about this episode…

  • Nick using the outboard on the zombie that tries to get them when they are on the dingy. (Its been done before but its still a nice touch.)
  • Strand not picking up the other survivors. It sucks, but it is a realistic call.
  • Alicia finally saying “I’m here,” to the guy on the radio.
  • Fishing. I was just wondering why no one was fishing for food when Chris and Daniel and started to fish.

Things that I didn’t like about this episode…

  • When Nick comes back with the dingy why are they taking the woman’s body with them?
  • Madison getting pissed at Travis for leaving the boat people behind. After everything they’ve lived through she seemed naive.
  • Ofelia was shot in the upper chest. How the hell is she walking around?

  • Jack the Radio Dude – Alicia radio boyfriend.

Bad Gun Handling – Scope Offset

You can see that when he backs off the roof the muzzle drops down so its pointing at the roof. I’m pretty sure that your insurance isn’t going to cover this.

This, once again, is a perfectly avoidable incident. Use a bean bag or a bipod if you are going to be shooting from a rest and make sure you realize that your scope is two inches above the muzzle of your gun if you are so close to your rest.
