Bad Gun Handling – Basic Instruction

I’m sure someone thought this was mildly amusing. I’m hoping it was taken as part of a “how not to” introduce someone to shooting.

On the safety side if that is a loaded weapon she might get a fat lip at the least and maybe lose a tooth if she’s not lucky.

With a little bit of forethought she might learn to love shooting. With just a few minutes of poor supervision she might never want to pick up a firearm again though…

Sunday Hand Guns

My oldest boy and I went out to the range last Sunday and got a few hundred rounds in. He just graduated from college and is now applying for local police departments and wanted to work on his hand guns skills a little.

I meant to post this last Sunday but it was one of those crazy weeks where cars broke down and I got stuck at work late several nights.

Overall he did really well. We set up one target six inches off the ground and one at a normal chest height and alternated between the two to make target re-acquisition the focus.

We both did well at first using the M&P22 to warm up, then our aims go a lot worse. It wasn’t until I got home and started to clean guns that I realized the M&P22 was starting to foul with lead.

We then moved to the 9mm, .38, and .40 to continue practice.

We ended the day with a single clip of 9mm apiece firing one round every 3 seconds for a final scored target.

Tyler:

3 shots 7 ring = 21

1 shot 8 ring (I gave him the one on the line) = 8

1 shot 9 ring = 9

1 shot 10 ring = 10

Total hits 6/10

Total 48 points

Old Man (Matt):

4 shots 7 ring (he gave me the on on the outside edge) = 28

2 shots 9 ring = 18

2 shots 10 ring = 20

Total hits 8/10

Total 66 points

We were both really happy with our “okay” shooting. First of all these are 6 inch targets at 10 yards.  Then there is the fact that he hasn’t really been shooting while he was in college – and I am really just now getting super mobile after my second back surgery.

Plus, I beat the kid in points so I was just happy to still have something on him.

8/14/2021200The wheel guns are just so much fun to shoot. 13
09/06/2020100I got to compare my new M586 to my M64 for the first time today.12
7/12/2020100Relaxing day at the range with my youngest son.11
7/6/2020100Had the range all to myself!!!10
6/27/2020100Every time we go shooting the wheel gun is always the one we run out of ammo for.9
6/13/2020100First outing of 2020.8
10/07/2016150This really is one of my favorites. Pulling back the hammer forces me to pause - which usually helps my aim.7
09/04/201550Just a quick outing to start off our weekend.6
05/09/2015150The .38 is clearly a fun gun to shoot. Everyone was waiting to shoot it and I only brought three boxes of ammo for it - and they went quick.5
04/26/2015100Everyone loves the semi autos but for some reason they always keep reaching for the wheel gun too. There is just something about pulling back the hammer and firing with a good wheel gun.4
04/25/2015100My son wanted to shoot the revolver so I took him out to the club. He had a ball.3
03/28/2015200My brother went through all my 38 ammo! But it was worth it, he was hitting the target much better with the revolver. I don't think he likes the sites on my CZ or Glock.2

Glock Model 23 Shooting Log

8/14/202150Still not sure if I like this Glock. It doesn't point naturally and it always takes two clips to get on target. 11
11/21/202050The Glock 23 is a great little semi auto that is slowly growing on me. 10
10/31/2020100My son and I took turns with the Glock 23 today. He really liked the Glock, so I might need to do a paternity test. 9
10/24/2020100I'm not a huge Glock fan, but this G23 is slowly growing on me. 8
09/06/2020100Spent a little bit of time at the range on this beautiful Labor Day Weekend.7
7/6/2020100Had the range all to myself!!!6
6/27/2020100After figuring out how to sight with this it was fun to shoot. 5
10/07/201650The thing I'm starting to love about this Glock is how clean it shoots - and how easy it is to clean - because it doesn't seem to get that dirty.4
09/04/201550Just a quick outing to start off our weekend.3
05/09/2015150My youngest was funny when he was shooting this . I don't really feel the difference between the .40 and the 9mm, but he said he can really tell the difference.2
04/26/2015100My buddy is going through a divorce and needed some cash. So I got a very nice gun that had barely any rounds down the barrel for half the retail price.1

Smith & Wesson M&P 22 Shooting Log

11/21/2020100The M&P 22 is just a joy to shoot, which is why it gets fed on a frequent basis. 10
10/31/2020200Our family friend really enjoyed the manageable kick the 22LR has. My son liked how he could group hits in rapid fire mode.9
10/24/2020100After shooting the 40 Caliber G23, this feels like a toy, but it is fun to shoot. 8
09/06/2020100More bulls eyes with my .22 nail driver. 7
