I’v got a disclaimer about Cruzan rum, which might impact my evaluation of this spirit.
Many, many, years ago when I got married we spent a week in Saint Thomas. It is the first time I ever had Cruzan rum, and because it was an amazing trip, I have very fond memories of drinking Cruzan in just about everything while I was there.
It was a long time ago, and I’ve since stopped drinking most mixers and like my drinks over the rocks or with a touch of water added to open the flavors of whatever alcohols I’m drinking, and I just recently grabbed a bottle of Cruzan Spiced Rum mostly out of chance. It was on the top shelf and my back has been really bothering me lately.
Anyway, I bought a bottle of Cruzan Spiced Rum and was surprised just how much I enjoyed drinking what many consider to be a “budget” or cheaper rum. For the price, and for the memories it brings back, Cruzan has found a spot on my liquor shelf for a long time to come.
Given all the good memories Cruzan Spiced Rum has for me, the price, and the pleasant spices that come out on the tongue I’m giving this rum a 67/100.
- Cheap compared to some other premium rum brands.
- The spices really come through, especially the allspice and vanilla, which I really enjoy.
- Faint after bite, just a hint of harshness on the tongue after sipping it straight.
