My dad knows I love bourbon, and him and his girlfriend were very generous and found this Dogfish Head Alternate Takes while out and about on their travels, and I was super excited to try it as I’d never seen it or even heard of it. Dad, if you are reading this, I loved my present.
So how did Dogfish Head Alternate Takes taste? It tastes like it has a very high rye content to me, which always feels overly sharp on my palate. I’m not a huge fan of rye whiskies, they just don’t seem as refined to me. Oddly however, they do seem to make good Manhattans when you add a little vermouth, go figure.
So how did this Dogfish Head Alternate Takes stand up as a sipping whiskey? Not too well, I gave it a 41/100, but will try it in a Manhattan next weekend. Or maybe this week if work is crazy, who knows.
Dad, if your reading this, I love trying new bourbons, and would never have found this one, so even though it didn’t score well, I loved opening it and finding that out. It was a perfect present.
