Bad Gun Handling – Basic Safety

Basic Safety is so important. This is a scary example of a new shooter sweeping her friends with her muzzle. Very Scary.

I take every new shooter to my local range. There is a wooden table between the shooters and the targets. That table is super important. I put one round in the weapon to start and tell the shooter to put it back down when they are done shooting. The weapon is always pointed down range. At all times.

This isn’t her fault. Whoever handed her that weapon should be standing right behind her to help her and assure everyone’s safety.

Be safe out there…

Always follow the four basic rules of Gun Safety:

  1. Always keep firearms pointed in a safe direction.
  2. Treat all guns as loaded at all times.
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
  4. Always be sure of your target and what’s beyond it.

This is a clear violation of Rule 2.

Bad Gun Handling – Bad Footing

Shooting while on Bad Footing is a bad practice. The weapon recoil can knock you off your feet and that can cause an accident discharge.

Big or small, it is always important to make sure your weapons are always in good condition and you are firing from a stable platform. If you are on Bad Footing you need to fix that before pulling the trigger! Most of us are going to try to stop the fall. That means there is the potential for an accidental discharge which could end disastrously!

This could have ended very poorly.

Bad Gun Handling – Treat It Like It Is Loaded

Treat It Like It Is Loaded. Even if it is “just” a paintball gun. Hopefully this kid can still have kids after this.

There are two parts of your body that have a “blood barrier”. One is your brain and the other is your testicles. If you break either of those barriers your own immune system will attack those organs. The reason that’s important is that if this kid just ruptured that lining he could end up sterile.

Never point a gun (even a paintball gun) at anything you don’t intend to destroy.

Bad Gun Handling – Buy An Eye Patch

Someone better Buy An Eye Patch for this guy. Whoever handed him the rifle should probably step up since they are putting him in danger.

Come on, who wants to see their buddy get hurt?

It looks like a .22 so hopefully not any real kick, but why take the risk?

New shooters should be instructed on the proper way to hold a a weapon and how to shoot it.

Bad Gun Handling – Scary Shotgun Time

This is Scary Shotgun Time if I ever saw it. The shooter is trying to one hand a 12G and it also appears like its near a residence.

This scares the beejeesus out of me.

It looks like he’s close to a house, and that usually means people are close by.

He then decides to fire the shotgun one handed.

The end result is about what you’d expect and he gets nailed in the head when the 12G comes flying back at him, and he looks hurt.

I don’t blame him, unless he’s the owner of the firearm. Never start with a 12G when teaching a new shooter, and always start with a shotgun with a stock and make sure they are leaning into the recoil.

Please be safe out there.

Bad Gun Handling – An Arrow To The Leg

This guy took an An Arrow To The Leg. The only question is who handling the weapon poorly because there is no way this happens without that!

An Arrow To The Leg like this doesn’t happen unless someone screws up. I don’t know who it was, but clearly there was something less than responsible weapon use going on here.

This is why you always make sure that what’s behind your target isn’t something you don’t want to hit.

Bad Gun Handling – Basic Safety

Basic Safety means you don’t point a loaded weapon at your own crotch. Because if the weapon goes off your in pain – or dead.

This kid should be really thankful that was just a paintball gun.

No eyes, no safe gun handling, and while I feel sorry for the kid, I don’t blame him. Basic safety should be a mandatory training, and yes, I do believe that anything even paintball/airsoft users should have to get a certification. It doesn’t have to be a six month program, but it should be at least an hour with a test, and if you can’t pass it, I’m sorry, you don’t get a gun, or a paintball gun, or an airsoft gun, or any other projectile based weapon like a bow or crossbow.

Bad Gun Handling- Chew Toy

Guns do not make for a good Chew Toy. It is scary because if the dog can get to it could a kid? You see why this is so scary right.

That weapon has a clip in it.

That weapon is pointed at his guts.

Take the slide off, take the barrel out, then figure out how badly the mag well is damaged.

Treat every weapon as if its loaded, and never point it at anything you don’t plan on destroying.

Bad Gun Handling – Bipod Girl

Sure, being a Bipod Girl sounds cool. At least until you get third degree burns on your crotch. Then its not so funny anymore.

I hope and pray this was done as a joke. The problem is that accidents happen. Maybe he thinks he cleared the rifle and didn’t? What if he pulls the trigger

What happened to that golden rule about treating every weapon like its loaded?

Bad Gun Handling – 12G Is Too Much

Sometimes 12G Is Too Much and there is no shame in that. Try a 20G or better yet, start with a .410. Don’t hand a novice a 12G! I don’t blame this young lady, I blame whomever handed that 12 to her.

This is in no way this woman’s fault.
