Fear the Walking Dead, Season 2

Episode 7, Shiva

Summary:

Shiva kicks off with Celia yelling at Strand, mad that he shot Thomas, which brings her to throw down an ultimatum. She wants Strand and everyone else gone. They have one day.

In the sunlight both Travis and Daniel look for and find the best weapons they can find – which are edged weapons.

On the balcony Madison tells Nick and Alicia they need to gather food and whatever else they can find. They need to get the truck and get back to the boat. Nick is skeptical, he doesn’t see Celia as the bad guy.

Outside the compound Travis is trying his best to track Chris. He appears wounded (I missed how…) but he does have an edged weapon to defend himself. He hears a noise and goes into a house, maybe thinking it was Chris. Inside he is almost clubbed to death by the home’s owner. When Travis takes his shoes off his feet are covered in blood.

Back at the house Nick is just returning, covered in blood. He’s brought back Thomas for Celia. Nick wants Celia to let his family stay, and she agrees as long as Nick agrees to take responsibility for their actions. He agrees. They can stay, except for Strand. Celia wants Strand out.

When we come back from the commercial Strand is digging a grave. Daniel warns him not to do it – no to bury Thomas. The ground is not holy.

We then move from confrontation to confrontation. Madison is mad that Nick went out to get Louis and he’s mad that she doesn’t understand that he’s not afraid of the undead. Something in this new world calls to him. We then see Daniel lose his sh*t. He thinks his wife is at the gates, which leads to him trying to drag Ofelia away, but it doesn’t go well. Some of the locals try to stop him which leads to him pulling his box cutter – which leads to him getting the crap beat out of him. While this is going on Travis is outside the walls, tracking his son – only Chris doesn’t want to be found.

Near midday there is a small funeral. Thomas is buried.

Life at the house is growing more tense. Almost as tense as things at the little house where Travis and Chris end up going at it. Chris thinks everyone looks at him like he is worthless. Travis manages to disarm him, but it’s not clear where things are going. Which is just when Nick finds them. Travis tells Nick he didn’t find them. Travis can’t bring Chris back yet, and that means Madison can’t know Nick found them. Nick hands him his knife and walks away.

All the while the drama continues at the house. Madison confront’s Celia as they fight for Nick’s heart & mind and Daniel has flash backs of his violent past while he hears hid dead wife talking to him in his head.

While Daniel is still talking to his wife Celia is trying to convert Madison by taking her into the cellar and asking her what she wouldn’t do for his own children. Things take a dark turn as Madison backs out of the zombie cell and locks the gate – leaving Celia behind.

Things start to go bad as night falls. Strand is forced out of the compound and Daniel has decided he must kill the walkers in the cellar. He does this by pouring some gas and lighting himself on fire as he hallucinates that his wife and he are together again.

Strand shows up just in time to save Madison, Ofelia, Alicia and Nick – but Nick isn’t happy. He bought into Celia’s crazy talk.

The mid season finale ends with Team Strand driving back to the boat while Nick walks away through the fire and smoke, surrounded by the undead. Travis and Chris are still on the loose.

Things I loved about this episode…

  • Strand dropping the truth bombs on Madison about Nick and his addiction and how Celia sucked him in with her crazy beliefs.

Things that I didn’t like about this episode…

  • Daniel losing his sh*t. He was supposed to be strong. The Butcher shouldn’t be so fragile.
  • The pyscho babble bit when Celia is talking to Daniel when he’s tied to the chair and he’s hearing his wife in his head.
  • Why in the world would Celia go into the cellar?
  • Daniel hallucinating that he and his wife are together again. His story arc took a hard left which I felt made no sense.
  • Nick being mad that his mom and friends did what they had to do to survive. Come on Nick.

  • Nick Clark – Starts the season off by finding his girlfriend turned into a walker in a church. Has a addition problem.
  • Alicia Clark – Nick’s sister. Has already lost her boyfriend to the virus.
  • Madison Clark – Mother to Nick and Alicia. She worked at the high school where she met Travis Manawa, her boyfriend.
  • Travis Manawa – School teacher and Madison’s love interest.
  • Chris Manawa – Travis’s son.
  • Daniel Salazar – The Barber who shelters Team Travis in Episode 2.
  • Ofelia Salazar  – The Barber’s cute daughter.
  • Strand – The Instigator who Nick met in the detention center in Season 1, Episode 5.
  • Thomas – Strand’s significant other.
  • Celia – Thomas & Louis’s mother.
  • Jack the Radio Dude – Alicia’s radio boyfriend.
  • Connor – Jack’s boss and the leader of the boat pirates.
  • Louis – Strand’s friend. The one who was going to get Strand into Mexico.
  • Alex – Female from flight 462 plane shorts.

Fear the Walking Dead, Season 2

Episode 6, Sicut Cervus

Summary:

I missed last weekend because of the Rutgers graduation. So I am one week behind. I’m watching last weeks episode,  Sicut Cervus now.

Sicut Cervus kicks off with some strange ass crap going on at a church before Strand’s SO shows up and people start weeping blood.

On the Abigail Strand and Louis try to talk their way past whomever is blocking their path south. Louis gets shot along with whomever was trying to block their path forward. Strand survives, but Louis is down for the count.

When we come back from commercial Strand and the rest of the team have made it to the church from the opening scenes. Team Nick is forced to pick up weapons and go to battle with what is leftover from the church ceremony, including a bunch of little kids. Nick doesn’t hold back.2016_FTWD_S2_E6_Nic_Ax

Everyone is asked to hand over their weapons when they get to “the house”. Surprisingly everyone hands over their weapons.

Strands SO didn’t make it through the church attack without being bit.

We then cut to Alicia confronting Chris about what happened at the church. Did Chris freeze when Madison was about to get bit or was he really watching to see what happened?

While Alicia and Chris fight Nick makes friends with Louis’s mother. Madison on the other hand doesn’t seem to like that fact that people see the best in Nick.

Back in the house Madison takes some food to Strand and his SO, Tom.  When she knocks Tom asks Strand if they like her.2016_FTWD_S2_E6_StrandMadison

Tom knows he dying. He asks Madison if she will look after Strand when he dies. After Madison leaves Strand tells Thomas he can’t live without him.

Near bedtime Alicia tells Madison that Chris threatened her. Madison goes to talk to Travis but Travis doesn’t want to hear that his son might be having a problem.

As night descends on the house we get a glimpse of what might be wrong at “the house” as someone throws a dog down a chute. Daniel sees this and begins exploring the structure. He finds a kid talking to his mother – as well as a bunch of other walkers.

Daniels confront’s Louis’s mom, who appears to be the real boss at the house, just as she prepares two more poisoned wafers to take care of Strand & Thomas. She was apparently the reason the people at the church also died. They must have been planning on cleaning out her cellar, so she poisoned them instead.

Just as the episode is coming to an end Strand is left with the choice. The two wafers are there. Thomas’s mother tells him she proud of him for what he is planning on doing. Boy is she going to be pissed when she realizes Strand put a bullet in Thomas’s head.

The very last thing we hear is Strand’s shot killing Thomas’s walker, which wakes up Madison and Alicia just as Chris picks up a knife (after sneaking into their room).

Things I loved about this episode…

  • Daniel immediately going out to stab the downed gunmen in their heads. Finally someone taking care of business.
  • Nick taking the ax to the little girls head. No holds barred.
  • Tom asking Madison to watch over Strand once he’s gone. It was sad and touching. Even the strongest of us need someone to watch over them from time to time.

Things that I didn’t like about this episode…

  • Daniel pausing when he’s got the kid by the neck as he has a flash back to his “Butcher Days”. Come on, if ever there was a time it was okay to stab a kid, this was it.
  • Everyone just hands over their weapons? I half expect it from most of them, but even Daniel?
