Fire Starters

Fire Starters are a basic supply. Sometimes the wood is a little wet or you just want to get the fire going quickly. That is when these Fire Starters are your best friend. I’ve used them in the pouring rain with very little cover, and was still able to get a nice blaze going. If you are cold and wet these Fire Starters are your best friend.

Come winter, after a long hike or hunt, you don’t want to struggle to get your fire going. You are cold, hungry, and want to get something warm in your belly as soon as possible. These Fire Starters help you get warm faster, and let you start cooking without delay.

Fire Starters Scoring

I keep a Fire Starter or three in my Backpack for hiking and several more with my hunting gear. If weather or great hunting keep me out in the wild longer, it is nice to know I can build a fire to stay warm and cook. When it comes to survival, sometimes the only thing that keeps you from freezing to death is the ability to get a fire going, and these are critical to that effort.

These Fire Starters can have an extreme impact on your survival and score a 905/1000.

  • Easily and conveniently start a fire inside or outside.
  • Long-lasting wood cubes are the best choice for indoor & outdoor fires.
  • Made from 100% environmentally friendly wood blend and wax.
  • Ideal for camping, fishing & hunting trips.

Razor Wire

Razor Wire is critical after a disaster. It serves so many purposes. Which camp do you think scavengers are going to raid first? The one with no fence and no Razor Wire or the one that is clearly prepared to deal with any intruders?

No, I do not put up this Razor Wire for routine camping, but we are talking about more than just regular camping right? Once the Zombies start biting or a natural disaster knocks out our infrastructure you are going to need to be able to protect your bolt hole from both the undead and from other survivors, and while this Razor Wire isn’t going to make a Zombie back off from pain, it is metal wire that is going to stop them from moving forward as long as you have it firmly strung between trees or other structures, just be careful and make sure the living don’t run into it by accident.

If you are lucky enough to have a heavy duty fence, this Razor Wire also makes a great deterrent to human survivors to keep them from trying to climb your fence and sneak into your camp. I like to put a string at the base of the fence. Wire tire it in place and then repeat it at the top of the fence. A really dedicated intruder is going to get through it eventually, but this is both a deterrent and well as a mechanism to buy you time to react.

Razor Wire Scoring

This Razor Wire can have an extreme impact your survival. It waves off many would be scavengers while also providing very real site security. This Wire scores 905/1000 and should be high on your list of critical gear.

High-Capacity Water Filter System

This High-Capacity Water Filter System is critical to survival. You can march and fight if you are hungry, but its impossible to do if your thirsty. Once you get dehydrated its nearly impossible to exert yourself, and that could be deadly when a disaster strikes. So you better have the ability to keep that drinking water flowing!

Which is exactly where this Water Filter System becomes critical. Sure, the Straw Filters are great when you are on the move, but when you have a camp and need lots of clean water to cook and clean this is the way to go.

Do you have wounded? You are going to need even more clean water. Hang the bags and let this Filter System do the work for you!

High-Capacity Water Filter System Scoring

I have several water filtering items on my survival list. Why? Because I want to have a multi layered plan with overlapping capabilities. Clean Water really is life. This Filter System can have an extreme impact on your survival and scores a 975/1000.

  • High-capacity, gravity-fed water filter system.
  • Ideal for groups and emergency preparedness.
  • Meets all EPA/NSF guidelines.
  • Removes 99.9999% of bacteria.
  • Removes 99.9% of protozoa.
  • Removes giardia, cryptosporidium, E. coli, salmonella, cholera.
  • No pumping required, let gravity do the work.
  • Replaceable cartridge filters up to 1,500 gallons.

Survival Axe

This Survival Axe is an all purpose tool that you can keep in your garage, vehicle, and even your office with a bit of subterfuge. I keep one in my garage for those times you just need an Axe to get the job done. Sometimes that is a stubborn bit of vegetation, and others its splitting a few extra logs for the fire pit.

I Keep another Survival Axe in my vehicle. If you see it and ask me why I’ll tell you its for two reasons. The first is that sometimes trees come down on the trail up to the cabin, and its useful to be able to cut larger limbs and trunks so I can pull them out of the way. The second is that the pick end is great to break windows if I need to save someone who is trapped in their vehicle.

If you are willing to get a display case and spray paint the head silver and make a fake little plaque, you can probably get away with keeping this Survival Axe in your office as well. Its an award from the 2014 Lower Albuquerque novice fireman’s challenge. You won first place for opening unlocked doors.

Survival Axe Scoring

Why keep so many Axes around? The honest reason is they are just very useful, but they are also great Survival Gear that will help me do everything from the routine to getting through doors and walls if I need to. Grass Sickle

This Grass Sickle is a must have if you have a weed eater. When my weed eater can’t hack it I pull out this Sickle. Weeds that can defeat my gas weed eater don’t stand a chance against this Sickle. There are always vines and thicker underbrush that a weed eater just can’t get through. I have a field next to my house and my bolt hole is out in the woods. Having this Grass Sickle helps keep the ground clutter down. It also has the advantage of not needing gas or electric to run.

It’s also perfect to trim up small branches and vines. It’s also cheap enough that if I beat it to death I’m not worried about it. I keep a path cut into the woods so I can dump leaves and grass in a mulch pile, and without this Grass Sickle that path would be gone in two seasons.

Best of all, this Grass Sickle is nice and quiet. That means I don’t disturb my neighbors if I get started early or go late. That quiet is important. Discretion means I can work without drawing attention, which is always nice.

This Grass Sickles also hold an edge really well. I use it pretty hard and only have to sharpen it once or twice per season. When it does get dull I just pull out the file and its as good as new.

Grass Sickle Scoring

This Grass Sickle is a legit tool. It’s also an awesome bit of hidden survival gear. Whether its scavengers trying to take your food or Zombies trying to eat your brain, this Sickle can take care of business. Throw it in your vehicle with some other yard tools and no one will look at you twice. That means you can be ready for whatever comes your way.

This Grass Sickle can have an extreme impact on your survival chances. It scores a 903/1000.

  • Suitable for crops and animal husbandry.
  • Can be used for cutting grass, vines, branches, and weeds.
  • Ergonomic design.
  • High quality blade.
  • Steel Grass Sickle size – 17.3 in x 7.3 in / 275g

Mojave Hydration Backpack

“Water is life’s matter and matrix, mother and medium. There is no life without water.”

– Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, M.D.

This Mojave Hydration Backpack is key to survival. You can survive for weeks, even months without food. Try going three days without water and you end up dead or in the intensive care unit.

I’ve been on multiple hikes in the blazing heat were we come across someone who wasn’t prepared. I’m not saying I saved their lives, but I certainly helped some people avoid heat stroke and made sure they were hydrated before sending them back to their camp or cars. Being out in the heat without a good supply of Hydration is just asking for trouble.

When a natural disaster or the Zombie Apocalypse strikes, I have a good distance to cover to get to my Bolt Hole. That means I’m going to have to march, and doing that without Hydration might just leave me unable to deal with whatever emergencies come up along the way. There are parts of that hike where I won’t be able to avoid exposure to people, but for long stretches it is woods or mountainous, and I don’t plan on running out of water on the way.

Mojave Hydration Backpack Scoring

I don’t go out hiking, hunting, or camping without my Mojave Hydration Backpack. Dehydration impacts your ability to react and in a survival situation, that can mean a slow or quick death. A quick one if your reaction times are slower than whatever is coming at you. A slow one if you die of actual dehydration. In either case, I want to avoid both.

Because water is so critical, this Mojave Hydration Backpack can have an extreme impact on your survival chances. This Hydration Backpack scores a 902/1000.

  • The easiest and most convenient way to stay thirst free.
  • Reflectors on the small backpack offer maximum safety in the dark.
  • Made up of durable and airy fabric for maximum comfort.
  • 70 fl. oz. of water at your convenience whenever you need it.
  • 70 fl. oz. = 2-liters

Emergency Survival Water Pouches

These Emergency Survival Water Pouches are your insurance policy. When everything else has fallen apart, these Water Pouches mean you will have clean water to drink. Most of us don’t appreciate how much we rely on the water running when we turn the knob. How much potable water do you actually have if a natural disaster struck right now?

Unless you have a well in your house with a hand crank backup (for when the power goes out and your solar isn’t charging your batteries for some reason – because everything breaks at the wrong time) you will be glad you have these Emergency Survival Water Pouches. Dying of thirst while hiding from Zombies does not sound like fun to me. That is going to leave you with some really bad choices. Get forced to go on a scavenging run for water while the Zombie Apocalypse is raging around you – or if you are surrounded, you just suffer.

Neither of those options appeal to me, so I stock up on these Emergency Survival Water Pouches and use the boxes that are getting close to expiring for hiking, camping, and hunting.

Conclusion

You will die without water. If you need to open one of these Emergency Survival Water Pouches it could mean life or death. That means these Pouches have an extreme impact on your survival chances. I keep them with my bug out bag, have more strategically hidden on the route to my bolt hole, and keep a few in my vehicle for those surprise emergencies.

  • 64 Pouches of emergency purified water.
  • Lightweight and extremely compact 125 ml sachets.
  • Ideal for storage.
  • Easy to dispense from a pre-measured sachet.
  • Durable and easy to pack with your gear.
  • Such, Canadian Coast guard, EC and NZ approval.
  • 5 years shelf life.

Collapsible 2 QT Water Canteen

Clean water is critical to survival. You can live weeks without food, but without water you are dead. That means having this Collapsible 2 QT Water Canteen can make the difference between life and death. As a basic rule you need one quart of water to survive and two quarts to stay in optimal shape. So you can plan on one of these 2 QT Water Canteens per day if you can’t resupply during the trip.

For car camping, I still like to bring a few 2 QT Water Canteens for drinking, and if water isn’t in short supply, I can even use these to clean up. I’m an old married man now, but when I was younger, that was important. For reasons. When camping. You figure it out.

Plan for the worst. That is what I do. I keep a few Canteens at the ready and at the first whiff of a storm or the Zombie Apocalypse I fill them up so I have them at the ready if the utilities go out. Depending on where you live, losing power can mean that the water in your pipes may no longer by safe to drink. I don’t take any risks, I always make sure I have Clean Water to drink.

When it comes to surviving the hot weather, the most important piece of gear in your arsenal is this Collapsible 2 QT Water Canteen. The bottom line is that you are dead without water. If you are holed up, maybe you can live a few days, but if you are moving and fighting Zombies, you will be Zombie Chow if you can’t stay hydrated.

  • New 2 QT Collapsible Water Canteen.
  • Includes Insulated Desert Tan Canteen Pouch with Sling.
  • Measures Approximately 8″ high X 7″ wide X 3 1/2″ deep.
  • Color: DESERT TAN.
  • Genuine U.S. Military Issue! Made in USA!
