Bad Gun Handling – Safety First

Where should we start?

Let’s go with the lesser of the two issues here and start with eye safety. Whether you are shooting a bow, a handgun, a shotgun, or a flaming tennis ball gun (what is this thing anyway?) you should always wear shatterproof lenses.

Don’t risk your sight. Wear some shooting glasses.

The second them I’m going to point out is if you don’t lose your vision you just might lose your life. Don’t shoot an unsafe amount of tannerite or anything else that could go boom. You might just find yourself seriously wounded, maimed, or dead.

Fear the Walking Dead (Season 2, Episode 13)

Fear the Walking Dead, Season 2

Episode 13, Date of Death

Summary:

Date of Death kicks off just the way you would think it would with the hotel flooded by refugees that saw the lights that Madison turned on. It did however have the positive effect of reuniting Travis with them.2016_ftwd_s2_e13_gate

After we see a brief glimpse of Madison & Travis reaching for each other through the fence we flash back to Travis in the shed after Chris sho the farmer who shot their friend in the leg. Travis sows the kid up but from the amount of pain he’s in it appears the bullet may not have been a clean through and through – and it instead may have broken the bone. After Travis finishes his first aid work he goes out and buries the farmer without any help.

We then jump between the now and the past. Travis makes it into the hotel but he seems far off and angry when Madison offers him food. When she asks him about Chris he says he “had no choice” I think? Whatever it was, it clearly implies something bad happened.

Which makes perfect sense when we cut back to the past. The leader of the Frat Boys says it is time to move – and James – the wounded friend – looks too scared to say he isn’t ready to be moved – regardless of how much pain he’s in. Is he afraid the Frat Leader will kill him if he’s “dead weight” or is James just afraid of being left behind?

When they lift James into the bed of the truck the kid is clearly in a lot of pain. Travis makes them stop and they end up back at the farm but the Frat Leader wants to keep moving. Travis hears them and comes out, amazed they are willing to just write off their friend. Things turn ugly and guns are drawn.

Travis goes back inside and James tells him the back story about their other friend. This isn’t the first time Team Frat has had to put down one of their own.

The next morning Chris brings Travis some food which gives them a chance to talk. Which also gives Chris the chance to ambush his father. The Frat Leader comes in and shoots his friend before the others pack up the car. While they are getting ready to leave Chris tells his father he’s too weak – Chris thinks he knows how the world has to work now – breaking Travis’s heart in the process.

When we come back Travis & Madison are talking and Travis feels incredibly guilty for letting Chris go. He brushes Madison off, he feels like he failed both his son and his ex-wife.

The episode ends with some ominous people showing up at the front gate of the hotel. Next week is the season finale and I guess we are going to see all the storylines pulled back together with a gasp? A bang? A scream?

Things I loved about this episode…

  • Travis burying the farmer all by his self. It said a lot about what kind of person he is as well as all the others – including his son.2016_ftwd_s2_e13_grave
  • Travis when he’s asked if he wants some chicken – “We should be eating the eggs.” (Not the chickens which they can’t replace.)

Things that I didn’t like about this episode…

  • The other refugees outside the hotel simply go away after they let Travis in? I would have thought that would have caused a riot.
  • Travis not leaning on Madison. I know he’s upset and feels guilty but come on – that is your wife.
  • The let in 40 plus people? Really?

Fear the Walking Dead (Season 2, Episode 12)

Fear the Walking Dead, Season 2

Episode 12, Pillar Of Salt

Summary:

Pillar Of Salt starts with a family escaping the colony. They slip out a broken gap in the wall before making it to the bus. The father spikes one of the undead in the head to get some camo juice to hide his small family. Things don’t go well and he gets his family picked up by the bandits – who just want to know if he has any oxy.

When we come back from commercial we are treated to a montage of progress moments as each little group improves their living conditions – as well as a flashback of Ofelia being proposed to when she goes back to the cafe where it happened.

While Alicia is trying to learn how to surf Madison is working on getting the generator going which leads to ice in their drinks again.

—Nick’s Story—

In the colony Nick & Luciana are woken up when one of the colonies guards realizes the little family from the episodes opening is missing. Nick of course offers to go to look for the family but Alejandro doesn’t want to risk anyone else leaving. He is trying to hold onto his colony too tightly and it appears that cracks are forming in the community and people are fleeing.

Nick wants to go against Alejandro’s wishes and deliver the next batch of oxy to the bandits. He knows if he tells Luciana she will rat on him so he keeps his mouth shut. He thinks he needs to keep the oxy flowing to keep the colony safe – but its already too late. While he’s out walking he see’s someone watching him.2016_ftwd_s2_e12_nickinbinoculars

The bandits have found the colony.

—Hotel Story—

At the hotel Strand, Madison, and Alicia are planning on how to get and ration gas for the hotel’s generator when someone knocks on the door. When Strand opens it he gets a knife in his gut. The brides mom is mad that he took care of her zombified daughter. This kicks off a scavenging trip to find meds & a suture kit.

As Madison & Elena go to search for the meds we see the beginning of where the stories will start to converge. Elena has a brother who is with the bandits, which is exactly where they are going to get some meds.

While they are inside trading fish & ice for the meds they need to help Strand they overhear the bandits questing the family. Elena tells Madison that they are talking about an American who brings the oxy and she knows immediately they are talking about Nick.

While Madison & Elena are working on getting the needed medical supplies Strand is looking pretty rough.

When Madison gets back with the meds she turns on the generator – thinking that Nick will come running. This causes a rift between Alicia & Madison as Alicia suddenly feels like she isn’t enough for her mother. Before the lights to the hotel go out we see Travis in the distance, staring at the lights.
