Bad Gun Handling – Female Bipod

I am nearly, almost, 100% sure this was just a photo stunt. For the sake of that woman’s pubis, I certainly hope he didn’t have a live round in that weapon.

The bottom line however is that this is just a bad idea. People make mistakes. Maybe he thought he cleared it and grabbed an empty clip – maybe he picked up a magazine with a single round it and didn’t notice. He pulls the trigger and hurts her, or worse, she falls and as her legs wrap around the barrel it goes off and she loses an arm or maybe her life.

Firearms are not toys. They are not props. They are deadly tools that should be treated like such. I love shooting, I enjoy the range and every time I manage to acquire a new weapon it is like Christmas morning.

I would like to have a lot more moments like that. Which means all of us have to act like responsible adults and not give the “anti Gun” lobby fuel to use against us.

Be safe out there…

Fear the Walking Dead (Season 3, Episode 5)

Fear the Walking Dead, Season 3

Episode 5 (Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame)

Summary:

Jeremiah’s Camp

Fear The Walking Dead, Episode 5, Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame, starts with a scene of a remote farm house on the edge of the compound. An old man and his wife were in bed when she passed and turned. He gets up and embraces her, knowing the end has come. He dances with her for a moment as she gums his neck (her dentures are on the table) before putting a gun to his head and taking them both out with a single shot. As they both fall their lantern breaks and the building catches on fire.

The rest of the community rouses, but Jeremiah tells the fire brigade to save the water, it’s too late to save the house.

The next morning Madison packs up to go on the patrol to search for the missing search party. While on the road the convoy sees a small horde and Troy decides they need to clear the undead so they don’t head up the highway to the camp. His team and Madison go down to a bus of convicts and Troy goes BA while Madison just barely holds her own.

When Madison and the convoy get to where the outpost was they find someone hauled away whatever they were expecting to find. Troy loads up his team and they get back on the road to go to the outpost. When they get there is appears deserted. Clothes are hanging on the line but no one is around. They smell smoke and burnt meat and follow it to a pile of dead bodies. I the distance an old man is sitting, his brains being eaten by a crow as he babbles. Madison takes her knife and puts him out of his misery. When the team turns to leave there is a newcomer there – and Indian fellow who look mildly menacing.

Team Troy is surrounded by the newcomers and they are forced to give up their guns, their vehicles, and even their boots. The Indian wants Troy to tell his father to abandon the ranch or there will be war. Team Troy tries to hump back but it is dark and everyone had their boots taken away. Everyone is tired and hurting but Troy wants to force his men to march. Madison drops some truth bombs on Troy and then kind of pulls rank on him by asking the men if they need to rest. Troy isn’t happy, and he lets Madison know it by putting a knife to her throat while she’s sleeping.

In camp Alicia is hurting from spending too much time with the church study group who just happens to like to drink and smoke pot. After spilling some coffee she goes to apologize for being rude to Jake and they end up in bed together – but Alicia is clearly depressed. Jake tries to give her a book on poems but she doesn’t see the point.

Near the end of the episode Alicia is on top of a stone outcropping, looking at the sun before jumping. She lands in the small lake below and comes up laughing – maybe washed clean of her doubt?

Daniel & Strand

Daniel and Strand are on the road, making their way back to the hotel to get his daughter. Strand is playing a dangerous game with Daniel – trying to hedge on whether Ofelia will be at the hotel or not.

When they finally get to the hotel the gates are open and no lights are on. Victor doesn’t want to go in but Daniel doesn’t let that happen – he has to know if his daughter is inside and if she needs help. They are in the lobby  in the dark and they can hear the undead. To force Victor to talk Daniel rings the front desk bell and then leaves Victor behind when he admits that Ofelia bolted a long time ago.

Things I loved about this episode…

  • Alicia using Alcohol and Pot to deal with her stress. I think a lot of people would. I wonder if she is going to fall as hard as Nick did?
  • Troy going totally BA on the bus of undead.
  • Nick trying to set up a date night for Luciana.

Things that I didn’t like about this episode…

  • Alicia just jumps into bed with Jake? Did she at least have protection? Who wants to get pregnant during the ZA.
  • Luciana deciding to leave because she can see that Nick wants to stay.

  • Nick Clark – Starts the season off by finding his girlfriend turned into a walker in a church. Has a addition problem.

Bad Gun Handling – Trigger Discipline

Good Trigger Discipline has to be one of the first things you teach any shooter. The only time your finger is on the trigger is when you are sighting down the weapon and ready to fire. That extra split second that it takes you to move your finger lets you confirm your target – which could save your drunk brother who shows up at 3AM and forgot his key – which is why he’s climbing in a window.

Trigger Discipline saves lives…

Fear the Walking Dead (Season 3, Episode 4)

Fear the Walking Dead, Season 3

Episode 4 (100)

Summary:

Fear The Walking Dead, Episode 4, 100, starts with the story of how Daniel (The Barber) survived after the fire in Season 2 where he appeared to die willingly.  He’s burnt up, out on the streets, and thirsty when he gets into a slow race with a walker who is in slightly better shape than him.

It wins the race but Daniel is saved by a dog that starts barking, distracting the single walker who had him.

A wanderer finds Daniel and takes pity on him, taking him back to his hiding place in a mall where he has an old fountain that still pumps some water – once a week. Daniel’s savior puts him in his trike and then turns on a speaker announcing he has water while he rides through the zombies, his speaker drawing the undead to him.

The water an takes Daniel to other survivors who decide to clean his burnt up flesh with a straight razor.

A little bit of time passes and we see Daniel with his rescuer Efrain, who it turns out may be a priest? A priest who likes to drink. Efrain likes to use large nails and his hammer to kill the walkers.

Efrain lets Daniel cut his hair, and then tells him he knows he going to try and run. Efrain tries to understand why and Daniel tells him he’s killed lots of people – 96 to be specific. Efrain tries to make Daniel feel better but he begins to understand why Daniel wants to get back out on the road when he realizes Daniel is looking for his Daughter, Ofelia. Which leads to Daniel breaking down, telling Efrain that he’s not sure if he killed his daughter in the fire, or if she’s still alive. Daniel begs Efrain to forgive him. When Efrain falls asleep Daniel sneaks out into the darkness only to find it raining and dark.

Daniel kills one walker with a shovel handle before encountering a massive dude. The shovel doesn’t even phase the giant walker. Daniel kneels, defeated, leaving it to God – which is when the giant walker gets zapped in the head by lightening.

Daniel and the giant walker go down and are carried away in the run off, only to end up at the dam where Victor is. The people who find him are more scared they will be accused of sneaking him in if they are caught with him than anything else – so they hire him to be a janitor.

Daniel goes to work, does a shift, then ends up in the cafeteria eating his lunch. One of the bosses body guards puts his finger into Daniel’s food only to have Daniel disagree violently.

The fight leads the Boss to recognize Daniel, The Butcher, and just like that Daniel is walking away, no longer a janitor. The Boss asks him what he wants and smooth talks him into staying. A job is better than a jeep to go out into the Apocalypse. The job the Boss wants him to do is to find and kill the water thief – who just so happens to be the man who saved Daniel.

The search party crashes through the gates into the mall and finds the dry fountain – but the clock is ticking and to save the fountain Daniel gives up Efrain. He thinks he’s doing it to protect the girl who gave him his job – but she doesn’t care, she thinks hes a traitor. Which leads us right to where we saw Daniel at the end of Episode 3, giving Victor a canteen of water through the bars.

Daniel wants to know if his daughter is alive, which Victor confirms. If Daniel will let him out he will take Daniel to find his daughter. She’s just down the coast. Daniel doesn’t believe him, he’s convinced Victor will say anything to get out of the cell.

Which leads Daniel to face the reality of what he’s done by handing over Efrain. The poor priest is tied to a chair, getting beaten, but Efrain won’t give up how he is getting water, which would put the head of the water plant in jeopardy as well.

The Boss is happy when Daniel walks in – his expert in making people talk has just showed up. Daniel tells Efrain that he only has two options. Efrain can talk, in which case the priest dies and so does the woman helping him. Option two is he doesn’t talk, and Daniel will kill him. He will try and do it as quickly as he can – it is all he can offer. Daniel is going to kill Efrain when the woman breaks and grabs Efrain, embracing him. both are taken to the top of the dam. It is time for them to go over the edge. Daniel grabs the first guy and the Boss pushes him over. Daniel grabs Lola, the woman who gave him a job next and takes her to the edge where he hesitates before going Jason Bourne and saving Lola, Efrain, and Victor too. He kneels at her feet and asks her for forgiveness.

Things I loved about this episode…

  • Slow Walker race with Daniel when he is just about out of juice.
  • Daniel turning on the Boss at the end. I was very glad he turned to the good side.

Things that I didn’t like about this episode…

  • Why would you cut up a wounded man’s leg with a straight razor?
  • Daniel being forced to work over Efrain. That sucked.

  • Nick Clark – Starts the season off by finding his girlfriend turned into a walker in a church. Has a addition problem.
