Fear the Walking Dead, Season 2

Episode 4, Blood in the Streets

Summary:

Blood in the Streets starts with Nick making a night swim onto the beach.

Just as Nick gets to his feet we see a helicopter fly by overhead. Someone is still patrolling, looking for zombies? or survivors?

He’s found what looks like a survivors camp which isn’t too old (there are still fires burning in 50 gallon drums. Nick attacks a walker and uses it as camo to protect himself from whatever else might be out in the night.

Back on the boat the others don’t seem to realize that Nick is gone yet (or they are showing how Nick got to where he is.)

On the boat Chris and Ofelia are talking when a dingy rows up and drops a pregnant woman and two dudes off. The girl it pregnant but Alicia recognizes Jack’s voice, which is when the newcomers attack and rapidly take over the ship.

Nick makes it onto the dingy and rows away, which explains the timeline. He’s made it to land while the boat has been taken over be Jack and his pirate friends.

After the second commercial break we get a flashback to Strand’s pre ZA storyline. He was in New Orleans before Katrina and lost everything. He with some rich guy who sounds Russian. Strand gets him drunk then steals all his credit cards.

Then we cut back to the current timeline and we find out that strand was the one in the boat – not Nick. Nick apparently went overboard and just swam for it. Strand took the keys but Travis tells the pirates he can start the boat without the key.

Alicia gets a chance to talk to Jack out on the deck and he tries to tell her the pirate leader will let them live. I hope she doesn’t believe him.

On land Nick does his best zombie impression and continues to walk inland. Where he’s going we don’t know yet.

Meanwhile Travis was doing his best to hot wire the boat while Madison keeps the pregnant woman talking, trying to keep her distracted so Daniel can get free of his bonds without being noticed.

While Travis is trying to get the ship running and Madison is keeping the pregnant girl occupied Alicia is trying to save her family by telling Jack that if he can save her people she’ll contribute to whatever the pirates want. He seems to believe her. He takes her bonds off and she hugs him.

On land Nick seems a bit lost. He’s wandering, dribbling a basketball (there is no basketball ring in sight) before he finds an apartment with its windows taped over with brown packing paper. He knocks, which gets him a gun pointed at his head from behind. Apparently Nick wasn’t as aimless as I thought. He was heading to wherever strand sent him. The guy with the gun knows Strand and he isn’t happy that the people they are now moving more than just two people to Mexico. The new guy has guns and a new rubber boat.

On the boat Madison is doing her best to freak out the pregnant woman – telling the girl her baby might have turned already. As Travis moves through the main cabin he drops a tool behind a seat for Daniel to free himself.

Travis gets the boat started just in time to meet Connor, the pirate’s leader. Travis and Alicia are taken with Connor but his crew is left behind to deal with the others. The remaining pirates make it pretty clear they are going to kill everyone on board. Which is when Nick and Strand’s friend show up – and Strand’s friend is one hell of a shot.

Travis and Alicia are stuck with Connor but everyone else, including Louis are now safe on the boat.

Things I loved about this episode…

• The supper creepy deserted camp that Nick walks through at the beginning of the episode.
• How quickly the pirates took over the boat.
• Madison getting under the pregnant woman’s skin. It was horrible what she said, but perfect for the purpose.
• We find out why Strand and his Latino friend have such a strong connection -when they kiss.

Things that I didn’t like about this episode…

• Come on Chris, you have a gun, protect the boat. At least keep your gun on the strangers and make them get on their knees until someone searches them.

• Nick Clark – Starts the season off by finding his girlfriend turned into a walker in a church. Has a addition problem.
• Alicia Clark – Nick’s sister. Has already lost her boyfriend to the virus.
• Madison Clark – Mother to Nick and Alicia. She worked at the high school where she met Travis Manawa, her boyfriend.
• Travis Manawa – School teacher and Madison’s love interest.
• Chris Manawa – Travis’s son.
• Daniel Salazar – The Barber who shelters Team Travis in Episode 2.
• Ofelia Salazar  – The Barber’s cute daughter.
• Strand – The Instigator who Nick met in the detention center in Season 1, Episode 5.
• Jack the Radio Dude – Alicia’s radio boyfriend.
• Connor – Jack’s boss and the leader of the boat pirates.
• Louis – Strand’s friend. The one who was going to get Strand into Mexico.
• Alex – Female from flight 462 plane shorts.
