Microdiscectomy Recovery Day 4

Day 4 was a big day.

First of all I slept through the night on nothing by Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen. Yesterday around dinner I had some reaction to taking my narcotics and felt very dizzy/nautious so I decided to see if I could take the pain with only over the counter meds. The incision site pain is definitely a little worse but I can still get up to pee which is my measuring stick for whether it was feasible.

The second big development is that I was able to climb the steps to the second floor and get a shower. It was exhausting and I am going to take a nap now, but it was so worth it.

Sorry for the super serious stares, I was in a bit of pain from standing so long. This was the longest I’ve been on my feet since pre surgery, but it feels so good to be clean and shaved, and to get the anti-DVT stockings off my feet.

I think I forgot to mention them before, but I’ve been wearing tight white stockings to keep blood clots from forming in my legs and by this morning I was sick and tired of them. It made taking them off and climbing in the shower twice as nice.

My goals now are pretty simple. Manage my pain with OTCs and keep upping the amount of time I spend on my feet. I’m also hoping that tomorrow I can move to just a single cane.

I guess we’ll know tomorrow.

Microdiscectomy Recovery Day 3

Day three was a little better and a little worse.

My incision pain wasn’t so bad and I did a total of 100+ steps today with the help of my canes. But I paid for he increased movement afterwards with some pain, but I guess that is the way it has to be.

At least I had my nurse dog with me all day.

As soon as I settled down she would cuddle up to my neck and lay there making sure I was okay, which was very sweet, but she is a little heater too!

And whenever I’d fall asleep I’d wake up with her sprawled out on top of me. Kera is the sweetest dog, she hates it when anyone isn’t feeling well.2014_NurseDog2

Someone Please Explain This To Me

For those of you out there complaining that we aren’t being tough enough on Russia over the Ukraine Crimea, please explain something to me.

What does it really change? Russia had for all intents and purposes a permanent lease on the naval base there. Russia wanted to make sure that if Ukraine sided more closely with the EU, that the Sevastapol Naval Base would not be shuttered to them.

So strategically this makes no difference to us, they don’t get more ability than what they had.

Are you going to start WWIII over the status quo?

(FYI, Sorry for all the errors in grammar errors in the first post, I’m still recovering and am on some heavy duty pain killers.)
