The Walking Dead (Season 5, Episode 13)

Episode 13, Forget

Summary:

Forget opens with Sasha laying in someone else’s house looking at pictures of likely dead families. She goes to the armory and gets a rifle before heading out to the woods with a silenced M4 and some of the pictures. Which is only mildly creepy. As she is shooting she starts to freak out.2015_TWD_S5_E13_SashaGettingGun

Out in the outside Rick, Daryl, and Carol have a meeting. They want guns, they want to make sure they can defend themselves if anything goes bad. They agree that just the three of them are going to stockpile some weapons for the just in case. As they are about to head back to town they kill a walker with a “W” cut into its head.

Back in town Rick and Michonne wonder about what is going on. Why did the town make them the Sheriffs? They aren’t sure if its a play or a genuine gesture.

Out in the wilderness Daryl finds Aaron. Was he following Daryl or was he really just hunting rabbits?2015_TWD_S5_E13_DarlFindingAaron

Aaron leads Daryl to “Buttons” – who is a horse. Daryl takes the rope and moves into the field, trying to get a rope around the beautiful black beast. Just as Daryl is about to rope the horse a small horde approaches and ruins it. Aaron and Daryl try to kill the horde, but unfortunately they weren’t able to save Buttons who gets pulled down by the horde.

When Rick and Deanna meet he tells her they need to have patrols and to keep people from sneaking in. Rick tells Deanna that they need lookouts and Sasha says she will man the lookout in the tower. Deanna reluctantly agrees to what Team Rick wants but doesn’t seem too interested in security. Is that because she is naive or because she is trying to protect her own military forces?

As Carol is getting supplies for making cookies she sees a group of men getting guns. One of them is Deanna’s son Tobin. He’s taking a small group out to check a part of the fence. Tobin takes a fancy to Carol, who discretely unlocks the armory window before leaving.

Cut to the greeting party. There is some small talk and then Jesse (who gave Rick his haircut) comes in with her kids and husband. You can tell by the way that Rick looks at her that he has feelings. Maggie and Glenn are very sweet when Noah wants to leave, telling him he’s family now and they want him to stay. Then we cut to Daryl looking at the party from outside, hiding behind a tree. Aaron sees him walking by his front porch and offers to have him in for spaghetti with Eric. They skipped the party because of Eric’s broken ankle. At dinner Daryl slurps his spaghetti and Eric asks Daryl if he can get a spaghetti maker for one of the crazy ladies in town. Which leads Aaron to show Daryl the parts to a motorcycle. Aaron wants Daryl to put the bike together, and then he wants him to take Eric’s place as the other recruiter. Aaron tells Daryl he wants him as a recruiter because Daryl can tell the difference between a good person and a bad one.

At the party Carol slips away to go steal some guns and then Rick gets a stamp from Jesse’s son. It’s a big “A”.  I wonder if he has a “W” in his stamp kit?

As Carol is stealing guns Jesse’s son Sam catches her in the armory. She tries to bribe him with cookies but he says he needs to tell him mom. She then threatens the kid, telling him if he tells anyone she will take him outside the wall and tie him to a tree. And no one will hear him, just the walkers. Do the ends justify the means?

Inside the party Sasha starts to lose it again. She is on overload with too much stimuli. When one of the townies asks her what she wants her to make as her welcome dinner she freaks out and screams over the woman’s choice of wording.2015_TWD_S5_E13_SashaLosingIt

Back in the house Michonne puts her sword up. I just can’t see that ending well. She’s going to need it and not have it at some point.

The last thing we see is Rick walking back into town. He says hi to Jesse and her husband and then grips the revolver he has hidden in his belt as the couple walks away. Then he hears a walker and goes to the wall and puts his hand and then his head to the corrugated metal.2015_TWD_S5_E13_FenceRick

Things I loved about this episode…

  • Rick making plans for the worst case scenario. I’m glad to see he is still being careful.
  • Carol saying she enjoys being invisible again. She can move around and do things others in the group can’t. The townies see her as an older lady. Boy are they in for a surprise.
  • Jesse’s husband offering to take a look at Rick, then telling him he’s a doctor.
  • Aaron telling Daryl he wants him to be his other half of the recruiting team because he knows how to tell a good person from a bad one. There was something genuinely nice about that sentiment.
  • Carol scaring the pee out of Sam. It makes for an interesting moral argument. Doe the ends justify the means?
  • Rick kissing Jesse on the cheek. Don’t be a cheater Rick. You’re a good guy!
  • Daryl asking if they really need the guns after Aaron asked him to be his recruiting partner. It’s nice how genuine Daryl is.

Things that I didn’t like about this episode…

  • If you moved into a house wouldn’t you take down all the photos of the dead people? It just seems like it would be the first thing you do when you claim new space. Take down all the pics of the people who used to own it.
  • Buttons being eaten. That sucked. I wanted to see Daryl riding the horse!
