The Walking Dead (Season 6, Episode 14)

The Walking Dead, Season 6

Episode 14, Twice As Far

Summary:

The previews for Twice As Far show us Abraham telling Sasha he wants to date her as well as zombies that look like they are inside the town. I guess we’ll figure out how both those things turn out in the next hour.

The opening scenes show life going on in an almost normal way before we get to Morgan who has finished his basement prison just in time for Rick to stop by.2016_TWD_S6_E14_Rick_Finds_Morgans_Prison

Rick asks Morgan why, and Morgan tells him it will give them choices next time. Rick walks away without saying anything.

Carol and her new “friend” share a kiss on her porch before he heads off to to his duties. Everyone is doing their thing. 2016_TWD_S6_E14_Daryl_Carol_Talking

When we get to Daryl he is going over his bike and finds the soldier he’d kept there just as Carol stops by to talk. She’s clearly carrying the weight of what went down when the Saviors captured her and Maggie while Daryl is realizing that Dwight, the guy who stole his bike must have been a Savior – and that if he wasn’t at either of the two Savior bases he must still be out there?

When we get back from commercial Denise is asking Daryl & Rosita to take her to an apothecary she’d seen before she found Alexandria. Daryl & Rosita give in and they are off, at least until the road is blocked by a tree. At this point Team Daryl breaks off into two smaller groups. Daryl and Denise follow the road while Rosita follows the tracks. I guess she didn’t experience Terminus the same way?

When we get from the second commercial break Abraham and Eugene are walking through an alley in the pouring rain, talking philosophy and survival. Eugene thinks he’s adapting, that he’s a survivor, which makes me think he’s dying this episode.2016_TWD_S6_E14_Abraham

Abraham and Eugene have come to their destination, a foundry or machine shop. Eugene has plans to make bullets. There is a brief struggle with a walker before Abraham and Eugene have words which leaves Eugene alone after telling Abraham he doesn’t need him for protection anymore.

Daryl and Denise find Rosita, who beat them to the town by taking the more direct path the railroad tracks provided. The strip mall is covered in bloody handprints. Daryl opens the door with his crowbar and team heads inside. Denise isn’t used to being out in the wild and almost hurls from the smell (which should have been a warning that something was rotting inside?) Inside the strop mall there is another metal gate which Daryl goes to town on with his crow bar. Daryl & Rosita jump inside to take the drugs before they hear something moving. Denise thinks she hears whatever is making the noise and decides to go investigate. She finds the source of the noise and seems surprised that it is creepy as hell before running. On the way back Denise continues her stupid streak when she decides to risk her life to get a cooler from inside a car.2016_TWD_S6_E14_Car_Zombie

She gets the cooler, but not before almost getting bit after a fight with the car zombie. Inside the cooler she finds the soda that Tara likes. Rosita gets mad and asks Denise if she’s stupid, which kicks off a monologue about how Daryl and Rosita are so strong – right up to the point where Denise gets an arrow in the head.2016_TWD_S6_E14_Denise_ArrowInHead 2016_TWD_S6_E14_Denise_ArrowInHead_2

Denise continues  to talk for a moment longer before a mass of gunman come out of the trees – dragging Eugene along with them. Daryl & Rosita pull their guns up but there are a lot of Saviors on them. Is it better to go down in a blaze of glory or hope you can talk your way out of things? Is that even a possibility given the fact that they just killed two Savior outposts. The lead Savior in the group is Dwight. Daryl tells him he should have killed him. The crossbow that Dwight used to kill Denise was Daryl’s – he stole it when he stole the bike. Eugene is on his knees, and he can see Abraham hiding not far off. Eugene then tells Dwight that the Saviors should kill Abraham first because he’s a first class A hole.

The moment the Saviors are distracted Eugene takes some initiative and bites Dwight in the Johnson. This gives Abraham a moment of surprise to open fire and allow Daryl & Rosita time to fight back.  All hell breaks loose, bullets are flying.  Eugene takes a bullet before the Saviors run for it.2016_TWD_S6_E14_EugeneDown

Team Daryl makes it back to Alexandria. Eugene took a bullet to his side but it was just a flesh wound. When Eugene wakes up he tells Abraham he wasn’t trying to get him killed. Abraham tells him he knows, and he didn’t have to “Bite a dick” to prove he was capable of defending himself.

The episode ends with Carol’s new boyfriend reading her goodbye letter. She’s tired of killing and she knows that if she stays she will be forced to. She can’t let herself love anyone because she will have to defend them. She asks them not to come after her, she’s leaving. In the background we see two people taking the armory away, but we don’t know where before it fades to black.

Things I loved about this episode…

  • Daryl taking the tracks back to their car after they ransack the apothecary.
  • Eugene biting Dwight in the Johnson and giving everyone else a chance to fight.
  • Sasha telling Abraham to come inside.
  • Abraham telling Eugene he didn’t have to “Bite a dick,” to prove he was a survivor.

Things that I didn’t like about this episode…

  • Was Daryl having problems with the trucks transmission? Come on he rides a bike so he must understand a clutch right?
  • Come on!!! Rosita is not going to split up and go a separate way than Daryl. What good is a partner if they are going to run off on their own?
  • Eugene suddenly thinks he is a walker killer? I’m not so sure he’d be dumb enough to send Abraham away.
  • Denise decides to go investigate the noise in the dark? When did she become brave?
  • Carol got weak? She decides to flee? She was so hard? Was she brittle as well?

Firsts…

  • The first time we see Abraham admit to Sasha how much he likes her.
  • The first time we see someone get an arrow through the head and continue to talk. (However sad it was.)

Disaster L.A.

Disaster L.A. is one of those movies I watched, and enjoyed it, I just couldn’t help but feel that it was done better by others. The effects were decent enough and the acting wasn’t bad, but the basics just didn’t go together very well. Overall I didn’t turn it off and it was horrible, but its not a movie I would watch twice.

Spoilers below…

It was the standard plot holes that got me. You know that people are dying, and after they die they come back – and yet you still let members of your party go off alone. Which wasn’t even the worst hole in the plot. At one point they listen to a radio broadcast which tells everyone in L.A. they have until the morning to escape before the military uses chemical weapons to contain the outbreak. I’m pretty sure that if the military was going to bring the hammer down to contain some form of outbreak they aren’t going to first, let people know its coming, and second give them a deadline to get out of the infected zone.

But that is just me.  Ignore those plot holes and it was otherwise an okay movie. In my opinion Night Of The Comet did it better when it comes to comet disaster movies. Even though it is an oldie, it is still one of my favorites.

The Walking Dead (Season 6, Episode 13)

The Walking Dead, Season 6

Episode 13, The Same Boat

Summary:

The Same Boat starts off just about where episode 12 left off. Carol and Maggie have been taken and Rick tries to negotiate a trade.2016_TWD_S6_E13_WalkieTalkie

The Saviors don’t want to make a 2 for 1 trade and they don’t have the people to take on team Rick so they bag Maggie and Carol and run. They walk them through the woods before getting in some vehicle and making several radio calls, changing channels and talking in codes. Its clear from the level of organization that Team Rick may have just big off more than they can chew. The Saviors aren’t just some ragtag group of bikers.

Carol and Maggie are taken to an unknown location that looks kid of like a hospital or other institutional building. The lead Savior chick tells her two captives they don’t have a way out unless she lets them out. Wherever they are does not sound like its completely secure – the Saviors gear is gone and their bolt hole is full of biters.

Once the Saviors are back in the room Carol starts to hyperventilate while clutching a rosary. She tells them to do whatever to herself (Carol) but to leave Maggie alone, because she’s pregnant. I think Carol is trying to put the Saviors at ease, but I think it might have been a mistake to tell the Saviors that Maggie was preggers.

The guy that Carol shot is bleeding out and he wants revenge. He knows he might be dying and he wants to make sure that Carol suffers as much as he does. He hits Paula which gives Maggie & Carol a chance to jump in, only Paula doesn’t seem to care that they were trying to help.

After Paula takes control again they take Maggie into a separate room to interrogate her. They want to know where home base is. They want to know where Maggie felt safe enough to have a kid and where she had time to wash her clothes.

Shortly after they take Maggie into the other room Rick contacts Paula on the walkie again. He wants to make the trade but Pauls isn’t agreeing to anything yet. In the process Carol spins a tale about how they attacked the Savior stronghold because they were attacked on the road and were scared. It explains what happened to the biker patrol but doesn’t seem to do much to help Carol’s position with the Saviors. She does get Paula talking though, which I guess gives Carol a chance to learn and get into her head.

It doesn’t help. Paula has stalled long enough that her own backup has arrived just in time for her arranged meet up with Rick to do the trade. Luckily Carol has been able to use her rosary to get out of her duct tape bonds just in time. She gets to Maggie and wants to run but Maggie wants to attack.

Carol and Maggie head out into the facility. Maggie unties the tourniquet from the wounded savior – presumably so he’ll die and turn – which is exactly what happens. The heavset woman walks in just in time to get bit, then gets beat to death by Maggie with her own gun.

Carol and Maggie get out just before Paula comes back and finds her two dead comrades. She racks her pistol and then we cut to commercial.

When we come back Maggie & Carol come to the walker blockade. While they are stalled Paula comes up behind them and opens fire until she is out of ammo. After a tense moment Carol wings Paula and then the last Savior almost guts Maggie before Carol saves her too.

Paula puts up a big more of a fight before finally getting spiked and then Carol & Maggie trick the Savior rescue party into a closed off room before burning them up with some gas.2016_TWD_S6_E13_FireItUp

The episode ends with Carol & Maggie escaping the facility to run into the arms of Team Rick. Maggie ends up in Glenn’s arms and Daryl takes Carol in his.

Rick shoots the last Savior in the head when he says he Negan. Rick doesn’t know “we are all Negan” yet.

Things I loved about this episode…

  • The way Carol can be anyone she wants to be. I loved the way she put the Saviors at ease, taking back on the meek and meager persona the moment the Saviors had her.
  • Paula telling Carol that she’s weak. I can’t wait for Carol to show her how untrue that is.
  • The moment that Paula realizes that Carol isn’t the frightened little bird that she plays to be.

Things that I didn’t like about this episode…

  • The heavyset Savior woman with cancer seemed a little too well nourished t0 have been living in the post ZA world.
  • Why is Carol having such a hard time shooting Paula?

Firsts…

  • First time we see Maggie beat someone to death with a pistol.
  • First time we see Carol hesitate when she needed to be tough as nails. Come on, kill Paula already.
