CZ 75 P01 – Review & Range Day 1
Let’s start with a history lesson. This pistol was porn in 1975 (wow, wonder were the 75 comes from?) in Czechoslovakia back in the cold war days. It was designed to function in harsh environments, and to staying functioning for a long time. You know it’s a good pistol when its copied as much as it has been.
The list of weapons derived from the CZ 75 is fairly large, which tells you something about the design:
- EAA Witness pistols
- Israeli BUL
- Magnum Research Baby Eagle
- Italian Tanfoglio
Now on to the gun itself. Its incredibly tight. The slide and barrel design have zero play, and the gun just feels amazingly solid and well put together. I put 200 rounds through it and the thing is a tack driver. It shoots smooth, and ate up my cheap plinking ammo without a complaint.
Why did I pick the CZ 75? It started with a basic search for NJ legal firearms that had a ready supply of magazines available below the 15 round limit. Everything after that was just blessed Karma. I found a five pack of clips and snatched them up for $98 with shipping. Can’t beat that. Then, after reading several very positive reviews I started shopping. It took me three months to find the pistol I wanted at the price I was willing to pay. Gunbroker.com works well, especially if you are willing to wait for the right item at the right price.
The tear down and cleaning were simple. The one thing I already ordered was a new steel guide rod from CZ Custom. The stock rod is polymer and I really didn’t like how flexible it felt, so I ordered the stainless one.
I am really forward to taking the CZ back to the range. I definitely made a good choice.
How To Fix Remington SuperCell On 870 SuperMag
If you shoot a lot of slugs you know the best upgrade out there for your shotgun is some form of recoil pad. I love my Remington 870’s. They shoot well, clean easily, and are very reliable. I recently just added a third 870 to my armory when I purchased an 870 SuperMag.
So what is the first thing I do when I get the weapon? I take off the stock recoil pad and put a Remington SuperCell Recoil Pad on. The only problem is the stock on the 870 SuperMag is just a bit wider than the 870 Express. You can see in this picture how the Remington SuperCell Recoil Pad left a white border on each side of the pad.
No worries, it is really just a bit of the lip and it was easily fixed. I grabbed a black sharpie and gave the exposed section of the stock several coats of black magic marker.
After, you can’t really see anything was amiss unless you really stare at it. You really have to hold the weapon at an angle in bright light to even see there might be anything there. I highly recommend the Remington SuperCell Recoil Pad as it makes staying out at the range more fun.
Lenovo Ideapad Loses Brightness Control After Windows 8.1 Update
Had a very strange event happen tonight and I saw a lot of posts about it without a lot of resolutions.
After I installed the Windows 8.1 update, my brightness control was set to the lowest setting and updating it didn’t change the level.
It was a simple fix, so I’m not sure why so many people were having problems with it. I went the Lenovo download page and re-installed the video drivers for Windows 8. It did tell me the drivers I was installing were older than the current, but I clicked through that and viola, it worked!
I think the fact that it tells you you are installing an older driver might be throwing people.
