Bad Gun Handling – Vehicle Damage

This Vehicle Damage had two causes. The first was excitement. I am positive this guy bought a new gun as was excited to shoot it. The second was not fully understanding how powerful the weapon was. The result was him blowing out his stop lights and turn signals.

This is why stopping and thinking about safety is always important. Thankfully it doesn’t look like the debris from the truck hurt anyone but it could have.

Be safe out there…

Why do I show these videos and pictures? Because I like to go to the range and every one of these videos gives the non shooting public a bad impression of the total shooting community.

Always follow the four basic rules of Gun Safety:

  1. Always keep firearms pointed in a safe direction.
  2. Treat all guns as though they are loaded.
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
  4. Always be sure of your target and what’s beyond it.

This is a clear violation of Rule 1. Having the muzzle of this weapon next to something breakable is a clear example of always keeping your firearm in a safe direction. Muzzle blast counts as part of that equation people!

Bad Gun Handling – Every Gun Is Loaded

Every Gun Is Loaded. Treat them like they are. Every time, all the time. Guns are not toys. Treat them with respect at all time. Or you might just have to pay a really high price.

Do the same thing every time. Check, then double check the weapon. It is very clear what this gentleman did. He racked the slide and saw a round go flying. The problem is that all he did was cycle the next round into the chamber when he racked the slide.

Never assume a weapon is empty. Check it, recheck it, and then treat it with respect. This is just so scary. He is in a room full of teenagers!

Bad Gun Handling – You’ll Put Your Eye Out Kid

This is how you turn a new gun enthusiast off of the sport. This is how you Put Your Eye Out. It is a scary example of Bad Gun Handling.

This image is a great example of why basic gun safety classes should be mandatory. It also a great ad for mandatory gun insurance. When she is hurt is it fair that her medical insurance will pay the cost? I don’t think so. The owner of that rifle should be responsible for whatever happens with it. That rifle should be covered under a mandatory firearms insurance policy so when people get hurt there is money to pay for damages.

Guns are not toys. Guns are not props for photo shoots. They are dangerous tools. Mishandle them and people will end up hurt.

Someone please take that rifle away from her…

Bad Gun Handling – Wrong Ammo

Putting the Wrong Ammo into a firearm is just a bad idea. Will it go off? Who knows – but if it does you are clearly in big trouble.

I’m hoping that is a dummy .50, but even if it is this is just bad. If someone else tries this and its not, and that hammer accidentally falls this is could end up in tragedy.

Be safe out there. Guns aren’t toys.

Bad Gun handling – Roller Skates and Guns

Roller Skates and Guns do not go together. There is no way this is real right? I want to know who pitched the Roller Skate Seals? Is there anything they can’t get approved? Roller Skates are pretty much guaranteed not to be a stable shooting platform. What happens when you slip and fall? I think the natural instinct would be to grab at things. Maybe pull the trigger a few times as you fall.

Yeah, I’m going to just say this is a bad idea…

Someone please tell me this is fake.

Bad Gun Handling – Elephant Gun

I just don’t the desire to shoot an Elephant Gun. Bigger does not mean more fun and it absolutely does not mean safer. Yeah, yeah, yeah, no comments about bigger is better please. Why would risking destroying your shoulder with this Elephant Gun be fun?

Yeah, don’t hand big guns to shooters who haven’t worked their way up to that level of firearm…

Bad Gun Handling – Bye Break Lights

If you are not careful with your firearms you might just be saying Bye Break Lights! Don’t destroy your vehicle, be careful out there! If you are shooting a rifle with such obvious muzzle breaks I’d be a bit more careful with that muzzle.

This really is a great demonstration of why you need to think about what is around you and make a conscious decision to stop, think about safety, and then act accordingly.

Lucky for this guy it was just a turn signal.

Bad Gun Handling – Shoe Guns

Shoe Guns are just Bad Gun Handling. This is scary, dangerous, and just a bad example of how to handle firearms. On top of that the guy is wearing Crocs. Crocs and guns don’t mix!

This seems like a good way to lose a toe or two:

Bad Gun Handling – 12G Pistol Grip Edition

Today’s edition of Bad Gun Handling is brought to you by the 12G Pistol Grip. It is not for novices. Don’t hand novices a pistol grip shotgun!

Supervision and training are so important to a shooters safety, and their growth and enjoyment of the sport. Don’t hand new shooters a pistol grip 12G.

Just don’t…

This is a clear violation of Rule 2. Handing a novice shooter a 12G Pistol Grip shotgun is just asking for trouble. Start with a full rifle. For smaller shooters I start with a .410 shell. Then we progress to a 20G. If they can handle that I’ll move on to the 12G rifle. Finally, and maybe, I’ll introduce the a pistol grip shotgun.

Bad Gun Handling – One Handed 12G

Dentists love this One Handed 12G trick that earns them millions every year. Or, you could be smart and not do this.

How many ways is this bad?

No shirt on to protect him from hot brass.

Those sunglasses do not look safety rated to me.

The kid with the phone looks like he may be even with or in front of the shooters position, putting him at risk if something goes wrong.

And of course, shooting a 12 g with an arm outstretched is just asking fir trouble.

I hope he was okay and didn’t lose a tooth. That looks like it hurt.
