Is this 2.3 Inch Sheepsfoot Knife too small to be effective? No, because it is a backup to your backup. If you need this Knife it means your other self defense tools are already gone or taken from you. Being small means it might just be there when you need it it. If you do, I promise its just the right size. This Knife is a weapon of last resort. If I slip this Knife from my boot or the hundred other places I can hide it, it means bad things have happened. It means I’m down to my last ditch effort to survive.

Bushcraft Knife

The first time I held this Bushcraft Knife I fell in love with it. My buddy slapped his Knife into my hand and I knew I had to have one. The weight, and the feel in my hand was perfect. It was also raining and the fact that even with wet hands I never once thought I was going to lose my grip made this an easy choice. If you see me on the trail you will see this Bushcraft Knife on my belt.

I’ve used mine to shave kindling to start fires, process small game, and cut everything from ropes to clothing. A buddy fell and thought he’d broken his shin. We were a four hour hike from the nearest vehicle. I cut his pant leg off below the knee and thankfully there was no bone sticking out from the meat of his leg. I used this Knife and a rock to cut down two saplings and the rest of our group took turns dragging him back to our vehicles. One x-ray later and he was on crouches – but thankfully no permanent damage.

Pre disaster this Knife is a true multi tool. It holds an edge and is durable. You can’t go wrong putting it on your belt.

Post disaster this Knife is not just a multi tool but also a self defense tool. Knives don’t run out of ammo. They are quiet. If you need to defend yourself make sure you always have a last line of defense!

How does this Bushcraft Knife compare to my Fixed Blade Knife? The major difference is their utility. Folding Pocket Knife

I love my Kershaw Clash Pocket Knife for a bunch of reasons. The first is that it is well made, and perfect for just about any everyday task. The second is that at this price. I can actually use my Knife and not have to baby it for fear of breaking it. Who wants to use a knife that costs a couple hundred bucks to gut an animal or try to open a can of soup while out hunting?

The funny thing is that while I use my Pocket Knife hard I’ve yet to do more than scratch it up or ding the blade. When I do ding the blade I just get my file out and its good to go after a few minutes. I feel like if I had a more expensive blade I’d be way more careful with it and not get as much out of the Knife.

Like so many things in life – make sure this Pocket Knife is legal to carry, and how its legal to carry in your location. I live on the border of three states. In one of them I can carry it concealed because of its length. In the other two I can wear it but it has to be clearly visible at all times so it doesn’t become concealed. Bottom line, make sure you follow your local laws.

It is just that when it comes to self defense it loses points for the fact you have to open it, and the fact it has very short reach.

These Gun Magnets are perfect to handle all kinds of different scenarios. Of course they can be used as intended. Put the Magnet inside you closet or under you desk and then use it to hold onto a firearm or maybe a Machete. Please make sure that wherever you store self defense tools is safe. Don’t put a weapon anywhere a child or untrained users could get their hands on it.

Money Clip Knife

I love my Money Clip Knife. It is one of those items I end up carrying everyday because I don’t go out without cash. When I first got it I thought I’d only ever user it in an emergency self defense situation but I found I ended up using it for lots of little tasks. I use it to open boxes and have also saved a dog with it. Years ago I was walking with my kids and we saw a dog who had tied to a fence. Only the dog had gotten himself so twisted up in the rope that he was now hanging and choking himself. Thankfully I had my Money Clip Knife and was able to cut him free.

Of course, make this Knife is legal where you live before you slip it in your pocket. If you are lucky enough to live in a state where you can use this to hold your money, you also get the benefit of having a small but useful knife in your hand – and most likely just when you are going to need it.

If your mugged, give them the cash, but if its clear that its a fight or die situation, the Fixed Blade Knife hidden in this Money Clip might just give you the edge you need.

One Handed Axe

This One Handed Axe is the perfect size and weight for portability. I can carry it cross country and it gives me a ton of extra capabilities. I can use it to cut branches to build a shelter or even fell trees if I really need to. The hickory handle feels just right in my hand. It is also a beautifully made tool. The 1055 Carbon Steel is strong, durable, and holds a wicked sharp edge. Swing this Axe hard and you will find the hickory handle flexes enough to absorb impacts while still being incredibly tough.

This One Handed Axe is both a survival tool, and self defense weapon. It is perfect for the trail and can be hidden in your vehicle by pairing it with some other tree trimming gear. When it comes to a disaster this Axe gives me lots of options. I can break windows to get into or out of vehicles. I can even cut through many doors or hammer their locks to oblivion.

In the worst case this Axe is also an amazing self defense weapon. Not many men, woman, or wild animals are going to take a hit and continue to want to fight.

One Handed Axe Scoring

This One Handed Axe can have a high impact on your survival and scores a 675/1000. It gains points for boing a one handed tool but loses a few for not having the best reach in the world. It also loses a few for being a bit harder to hide in plain site, and not quite having the utility of a full sized Axe like this Survival Axe.

Fixed Blade Knife

I have a bunch of these Smith & Wesson Fixed Blade Knives and I love how they feel in my hand. They are the perfect size to slip in my boot, tuck down the back of my pants, or strap on my MOLLE Vest. That means they are highly likely to be in my hand when I need them. Just make sure that wherever you put them is legal in your location.

My buddy always complains about my Fixed Blade Knives. He can clip his folding knife to his belt and because its not concealed it is 100% legal in his state. While it is better than nothing, I prefer a Fixed Blade if I have a choice. Folding knives are great, but when it comes to making a spear for survival I don’t trust that hinge point. The second it takes to open the blade also worries me. Sure I have to draw my Fixed Blade Knife but the moment the tip clears the sheath I am ready for action.

I also find that from a quality perspective it is hard to get a folding knife at this price point. That is important because I like to stash these Fixed Blade Knives in various locations. With a bit of glue or a magnet I can stash these just about anywhere. And yes, I am always careful to keep them out of locations where kids could find them.

Fixed Blade Knife Scoring

Condor Golok Machete

I love this Condor Golok Machete.  It feels just right in my hand and the a burl on the hilt adds the right perfect amount of counterweight. That burl also keeps the blade from slipping out of my grip when my hands are sweaty or wet. This Machete is also the perfect length to strap on my pack without being too conspicuous. With the right pack and setup no one else even needs to know I have it one me. That can be extremely helpful when I’m hiking cross country. I like to have a multi purpose tool like this Machete close at hand while not advertising that fact.

The size also means I can more easily store it in a vehicle. Throw some garden gear in with it and no one is going to question why I have it in my vehicle. It is also the right length for more confined spaces. A Two Handed Machete is awesome for more open spaces hands down. This Golok Machete wins when it comes to indoor use though. A longer weapon is just going to get bound up.

The other thing I really like about this Condor Golok Machete is that this is just so well made. It’s almost a piece of art.

Throwing Tomahawks

These Throwing Tomahawks are a ton of fun. That means that training doesn’t feel like training. Combine these Tomahawks with a tree stump or two and you have a target range. Better yet, put a few along a trail and you can practice moving and throwing at the same time. Just make sure you don’t go so fast its not safe. As always, make sure there isn’t anything that can be damaged or harmed near or behind your targets!

These Tomahawks are tough. I’ve thrown mine a few hundred times apiece and they are going strong. If you manage to break one please tell me how.

The key to being good is practice, practice, practice, because it will be too late once things turn bad. These Tomahawks are perfect as they are not only quiet, but if you survive the encounter they can be reused indefinitely. They gain points for letting you defend yourself at range and close up. I liked to keep them in sets of three. The first one I throw, and the second two I save for hand to hand combat.

Throwing Tomahawks Scoring

These Throwing Tomahawks can have a high impact on your survival and score a 601/1000. They gain points for being ranged weapons, but lose a few points for being hard to conceal and keep close to you in daily life. These Tomahawks score more points for being reusable and really durable but lose a few points for being heavy if you want to keep more than a few of them on you at any given point.

Two Handed Machete

This Two Handed Machete is perfect for clearing ground. It has a hilt designed to let you take a nice two handed grip. That lets me get a nice solid swing in when I’m chopping through that extra thick overgrowth. Brush and small trees don’t stand a chance. The field behind my house is thick with vines, thorn bushes and it grows so thick you can’t get through. At least until you take this Machete and start clearing ground. When I moved in I had maybe six feet between my back door and the thicket. Now I have a hard because I was able to make one using this Machete.

Of course the real reason we are buying this Two Handed Machete is to protect our family and gear when disaster strikes. It is well made and durable. When it gets dull it takes and edge with a stone or a file easily. Throw a pair of work gloves and a set of Pruners in your vehicle and if anyone asks the Machete is for the extra thick vines. The fact that you can keep this Machete close by gives it extra points.

Two Handed Machete Scoring

This Two Handed Machete can have an extreme impact on your survival and scores a 907/1000. It obviously earns points for passing as an everyday tool. It also gets extra points for being in that sweet spot between being long enough to give you reach, while not being so long that it makes it less useful in tighter spaces.

When disaster takes out the world as we know it you will be glad you have this Machete to defend yourself. It not only passes as an everyday item so you will have it for when the event happens, but it is also light enough to carry with you if you need to walk to your bolt hole.
