These kids will be survivors.
Defiance Season 1 – Episode 3
Episode 3 – Down in the Ground Where the Dead Men Go
Summary:
The episode starts with a man in a red shirt going for a run that ends with the fellow getting drug into the grass and killed. When Nolan and Irisa go to investigate she starts to get visions.
Back in town Kenya is “working” with a client when things rapidly go bad. Her client gets ripped in two by a Hell Bug. As Irisa looks at the tattoo on what’s left on the dead man’s arm she gets another flashback.
The doctor meanwhile discovers some attack pheronomes on each of the bodies, leading Nolan and team to believe someone is targeting the victims. After the attack at Datak Tarr’s place Nolan and the Doctor find everyone at McCawley’s house and discovers Christie’s clothes are covered in the attack pheronome.
As Nolan and team look through documents at McCawley’s, looking for a reason for the attacks, Irisa gets another vision before running off. Nolan finds her at a burn down homesteader’s shack where she’s seeing what happened years before. She struggles as images of a family being slaughtered flash through her mind.
Nolan is convinced Irisa is having seizures but Irisa is sure the visions are real. She confronts Sukar, and then we get an awesome shot of a sweaty Irisa going through a sweat lodge therapy so she can find Rynn, the girl she’s been seeing in her visions. The girl who has been targeting the Hell Bugs to get her revenge.
With Sukar’s help Irisa is able to see where Rynn has gone, leading everyone to the mines. But in the process Irisa get’s mad at Nolan because he’s framed her visions as PTSD, never realizing that his adopted daughter was actually seeing actual events from the past.
Once at the bottom of the mine Rynn gets the drop on the team, but Irisa talks her down, telling her what she saw, reminding Rynn that her parents were good people, they would not want her to continue down the path she’s chosen.
There’s a brief scuffle, some explosives, and then Nolan and team are escaping as some Hell Bugs are turned into mush.
Overall a good episode, but there wasn’t quite enough action. Still, Irisa makes up for a lot. And the closing credits had a touching song with a lot of parent/child emotional moments in it.
Things I loved about this episode…
- Keeping true to the Star Trek mythology, the guy in the red shirt dies. Am I the only one who noticed this?
- Irisa is the cutest girl on TV at the moment.
- When they are picking up the boy parts they aren’t sure if its a boy or a girl, and Irisa confirms the gender, then puts something in a bag. Sick, but made me smile.
- Datak Tarr coming out of the house after killing some Hell Bugs and saying “Maybe we should eat out.”
Things that I didn’t like about this episode…
- The killing of the family was a little brutal. I like to watch the show with my eleven year old.
- Nolan seems just a bit too willing to rub Hell Bug poop into his hair.
Single Best Upgrade For Remington 870
The absolute best upgrade you can get for you Remington 870 is the SuperCell Recoil Pad. They make specific models for each model 870 and the fit and finish looks really good. Which you would expect since its all Remington gear.
The original butt pad barely gives under a decent amount of pressure and would leave bruises on my shoulder:
The SuperCell Recoil Pad took about 3 minutes to install and gives just enough to protect your shoulder and let you keep shooting all day long.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013)
Hansel & Gretel (4 Out of 5 Graves)
The movie starts out with the standard origination tail for Hansel & Gretel and then wastes no time getting to the action. Hansel and his sister are hired by a small town mayor to find the witch who has been stealing the townspeople’s children. After saving a hottie who was being falsely accused by the Sheriff played by Peter Stormare the two set out to find out who has been stealing the townspeople’s children.
In the process we learn that the big bad witch, Muriel, played by Famke Janssen has been taking the children to help her make a potion that will make her immune to fire. Famke Janssen is very possibly the hottest witch ever.
After Muriel comes to town to collect the next ingredient on her list (a female child born on a specific date) the Sheriff is none to happy. He blames Hansel & Gretel for the attack and ends up killing the mayor when he stands up for the witch hunting brother and sister.
During the attack Hansel & Gretel end up getting separated. While Gretel is getting the sh*t kicked out of her before getting saved by a troll Hansel is getting lucky with the hottie he saved in the opening scene. As luck would have it the hottie (playe by Pihla Viitala) just so happens to be a white witch and helps Hansel relieve some “dynamic tension” while proving that there are good witches, extremely kind hearted, naked, good witches.
Hansel & Gretel get back together and learn a bit about their heritage briefly before Gretel gets taken prisoner by Muriel. This is the setup for the final battle and World War 3 at the big witch convention.
Things I loved about the movie…
- There were some really good one liners that made me laugh.
- The action was well done and Jeremy Renner carries the “action star” title well.
- The relationship that forms between Gretel and the troll Edward. “I serve witches”.
- Mina as the hot “good witch”.
- The final shovel kill at the end. Was well done.
Things I didn’t like about the movie…
- They should have had one or two witches go down a bit easier in the beginning. They were all like super ninja fighters which was just a bit over the top.
- Hmm, there was a mix of guns and medieval weapons, then a Gatling gun. It just felt out of place.
- The witches were all impossible to kill, but then at the witch summit they mowed down tons of them quickly. It felt like it was too easy after how tough all the others were.
- I really didn’t like that Mina died. I like a little bit of a love story with my movie. They couldn’t have let her live and just be a booty call?
Overall it was a good movie and worth watching if you are into silly (sometimes dumb) action movies.
A Real Hero
This woman so someone getting shot at and put herself in harm’s way to save a complete stranger. I don’t think there is any greater measure of a person’s worth.
Teen Wolf Season 3 – Episode 2
Episode 2 – Chaos Rising
Summary:
If you haven’t already watched the first two seasons its time now. Season three is just kicking off. Go watch Season 1 & Season 2. They are well worth watching again.
Episode 2 starts off with Scott and Stiles going to a party.
Some hot chick comes on strong to Stiles and wants a special present on her birthday, but while Stiles is upstairs getting some protection another strange event is going on downstairs, showering his would be conquest in broken bottles. And of course she has bare feet. Then to top it off something pulls her out the window. Poor Stiles. No nookie for him.
Meanwhile Derek takes Isaac to Peter to try and read his memories and finger out where their other pack members are. After getting some claws in the neck and then being frozen in an ice bath Isaac is able to remember just enough to tip Derek and the pack off as to where the others are.
Of course, just about when Derek and team figure out where the others are Allison puts two and two together (using the bruises on her arm from Episode 1) and beats them to the bank. Mrs. Morrel is still alive and tells Allison to hide in the closet just before the bad guys come walking down the hall. And we find out that Erica (Gage Golightly) has already been killed.
Derek and Scott end up falling right into the trap set by the Alpha Pack, getting into the vault with their pack members who have been kept from the moonlight for several turns of the moon, which apparently drives them mad. Derek also finds out that his younger sister is alive, but is trying to kill him because of moon madness.
Mrs. Morrel seals them in with a binding, and appears to be a bad guy, but she put Allison in the closet and spilled ammonia so the bad guys wouldn’t smell her. So did she do all that just to get on the inside?
Allison saves Derek and Scott by breaking the circle, but Derek is pissed because now two crazed wolves have been set loose. (And of course the bad guys wander off before making sure the fight ended the way they wanted.)
The last few moments of the episode are Lydia freaking out in bed. Oh god why? I am tired of Lydia loosing her sh*t. Just leave Lydia alone!
Things I loved about this episode…
- “We don’t like you – now shut up and help us.” Great line from Derek to Peter.
- “He can do it.” – Stiles after Derek punches his fist.
Things that I didn’t like about this episode…
- Allison going to the bank, where she thinks a pack of murderous werewolves might be. Alone. Really?
