Waterproof Headphones

These Waterproof Headphones are awesome. When it comes to wet and bad weather I always choose my Waterproof Headphones. I can use them while swimming. They are perfect while walking my dog in the rain. It also means if I want to keep a voice discretely in my ear regardless of the weather I can. Wireless is great, but running out of batteries sucks. When I’m on the trail I try to minimize how much battery power I need. These Headphones are exactly what I need to make that happen!

Don’t get beat by the rain. Keep a set of Waterproof Headphones in your gear bag and be ready for whatever comes your way.

Windstopper Water Repellent Hunting Jacket

This Windstopper Water Repellent Hunting Jacket is one of my most prized articles of clothing. When the wind is howling and the temperatures are below freezing this is the Jacket I reach for. I can’t imagine how I would have coped with the elements without this Jacket on several hiking and hunting trips. It has kept me warm when the windchill was dangerous and the air was full of sleet that was coming down sideways. If I have to grab one Jacket and run in the cold weather this is going to be it.

This Hunting Jacket is awesome for everyday cold weather use. It is awesomely prefect when it comes to hunting and spending time in the wood. It has pouches and pockets in all the right places, as well as a pass through for a harness for your Hunting Tree Stand.

Unlike a lot of other windproof jackets that crinkle and make a ton of noise, this SITKA Hunting Jacket is quiet enough for me to stay hidden from game, and anything else in the woods. It also has special covers in the hood so you can hear better. That is useful for hearing what is coming when you are hunting, or being hunted.

Windstopper Water Repellent Hunting Jacket Scoring

This Windstopper Water Repellent Hunting Jacket can have an Extreme Impact on your survival and scores 919/1000.

Rain Poncho

This Rain Poncho is a must have bit of Wet Weather Gear. It packs up small, and has a ton of utility. Its most obvious use is during the pouring rain. It can keep you dry. That can can make the difference if you are out on the trail for days. Being wet leads to being cold, and that is dangerous. The wet just sucks the heat out of your body. Thankfully you are going to be prepared for long rainy days with this Poncho.

This Poncho fits over your Backpack, which means it can keep you and your gear dry. It also makes for a rain fly if you need to stop to rest. I obviously keep one of these Ponchos with my go gear and my Camping gear. I keep two in my vehicle. The first is Orange in case I need to stop and help someone in the pouring rain on the highway. Pre disaster I don’t want to get clipped by a car in the rain while changing a tire. Post disaster I like the Deep Gray and Green colors to fade into the background.

At this price point you can afford to have several Ponchos in different colors. The Orange is obvious for pre disaster times while some of the other colors may be dictated by what type of terrain you are in.

Waterproof /Windproof Rain Pants

When the wind picks up the weather turns foul you will be glad you have these Waterproof /Windproof Rain Pants. There is nothing worse than hiking in wet weather without Rain Pants. Your upper body is nice and dry but your legs get soaked. My Columbia Jacket is awesome but it just sheds all the water onto my legs in the rain. Thankfully you can just keep these Rain Pants in your bag and when the weather turns nasty you can slip them on. These Rain Pants will both keep you dry and keep the wind from biting into you. Even in warm weather a cold rain can sap your strength if you are not careful.

Besides the obvious use when its raining, these Waterproof /Windproof Rain Pants are also awesome after it stops. If you are hiking through wet vegetation you don’t have to worry about getting soaked from transfer. I also wear them in leech country. I keep a few rubber bands in my bag to synch around my ankles and I’m good to go.

These Rain Pants are also great at cutting through the wind. Even when its warm, if the wind is whipping, it is easy to catch a chill. That makes these Rain Pants an important bit of Wet Weather Gear.

Weatherproof Pen

This Rite in the Rain Weatherproof Pen is just the thing to go with your Weatherproof Notebook. What good is having an all weather Weatherproof Notebook if you don’t have the correct tool to write in it? Keep one of these Weatherproof Pens in your pocket and it won’t matter if its pouring rain or if your covered in mud. You’ll be able to write down critical information, or leave behind notes for the rest of your team.

It’s low tech, but my guess is that cell phones and a lot of the other technology we rely on everyday is going to stop working once the Zombies start biting. And, as a last resort, you can use it as a weapon to kill the Undead – you just have to be close in and have good aim to get this through an eye socket or two.

Weatherproof Notebook

Back when I was younger I would have killed for one of these Weatherproof Notebooks. I remember being on a hiking trip in the rain and snow and back then I carried a little notebook that I would jot down ideas and notes. Pencils work great even when wet, but I had a normal old notebook because two decades ago I couldn’t afford a Weatherproof Notebook, and honestly, didn’t even know they existed back then.

Today, these Weatherproof Notebooks are a critical piece of Hidden Survival Gear. If I need to write a note or let someone else on my team know that plans changed, I don’t have to worry about the weather destroying the message. It’s a small detail, but one that could mean life or death for the people who are supposed to be following me. I can write my note, tack it on the trail at eye level, and continue to move on.

I’ve been on horribly documented trails. Without my own notes I’d have to struggle through finding out the same issues over and over again. Whenever I am hiking I takes notes whenever I find something I might want to avoid – or make sure I can get back there later.

Weatherproof Notebook Scoring

These Notebooks can have a moderate impact on your survival. If you need directions or notes and you need to hike cross country, a little bit of wet weather can ruin your day. That is where these Weatherproof Notebooks save the day. They score a 235/1000.

Tire Traction Pads

Tire Traction Pads are a must have for every season. If you plan on going cross country, or even across your lawn, these Traction Pads can get you out of trouble. They really are an all season piece of gear. In the summer even the grass median can turn to a treacherous swamp. Do you want to have to call a tow truck just because you pulled off into some grass. Do you drive onto the beach? You know exactly how these Traction Pads can save the day.

Come winter, the snow and slush can easily bog you down. When you just want to get out and get moving, these Tire Traction Pads are perfect. Jam them under your tires, slowly advance, and you are on your way. Just make sure to stop and pick them back up once you are clear. Unless of course you have a Zombie horde hot on your tail.

Tire Traction Pads Scoring

When it coming to keeping your vehicle on the move, these Traction Pads are a must have. I keep a set in my vehicle at all time. I’ve used them myself after getting bogged down helping a buddy get lumber into his back yard. I got in just fine but getting out left me tearing up his lawn and spinning my tires. Thankfully these Traction Pads solved the problem and once I was moving I didn’t stop until I was back on paved road.

When it comes to survival, these Traction Pads can have a moderate impact on your survival and score a 256/1000.

Fire Starters

Fire Starters are a basic supply. Sometimes the wood is a little wet or you just want to get the fire going quickly. That is when these Fire Starters are your best friend. I’ve used them in the pouring rain with very little cover, and was still able to get a nice blaze going. If you are cold and wet these Fire Starters are your best friend.

Come winter, after a long hike or hunt, you don’t want to struggle to get your fire going. You are cold, hungry, and want to get something warm in your belly as soon as possible. These Fire Starters help you get warm faster, and let you start cooking without delay.

Fire Starters Scoring

I keep a Fire Starter or three in my Backpack for hiking and several more with my hunting gear. If weather or great hunting keep me out in the wild longer, it is nice to know I can build a fire to stay warm and cook. When it comes to survival, sometimes the only thing that keeps you from freezing to death is the ability to get a fire going, and these are critical to that effort.

These Fire Starters can have an extreme impact on your survival and score a 905/1000.

Waterproof Dry Bags

These Waterproof Dry Bags are a basic camping necessity. What good is making it to camp if all your clothes and gear are soaked through from the pouring rain? There is gear that just can’t get wet. That might be electronics, cash, clothing, or more importantly, ammunition. Any of them could make the difference between life and death if they get wet and you need them.

I guaranteed it’s going to rain while your camping or hiking at some point. Make sure the supplies you need to keep dry are in these Waterproof Dry Bags. I have been on long hikes through the rain. Once I get my Rain Fly up these Dry Bags mean I clothing to wear and dry goods to eat.

Backpacking Rain Fly

This Lightweight Backpacking Rain Fly is a year round piece of gear. Its a sun shade, its a rain fly, and it blocks the cutting wind in the dead of winter. If you have a smaller cabin, I would stock up on these Lightweight Camping Rain Flies as they let you expand out onto the ground around your cabin while still offering some degree of protection from the elements.

Because this Fly is so light and portable it only makes sense to keep one in your pack. I take one hunting with me as well. Add some branches and I have a nice shelter to sit and weight for the sun to come up so I can pull some ducks out of the air. Yes, I eat them. I don’t believe in shooting anything I don’t eat – at least when it comes to wild animals.

When I hiked a lot I never took a a tent unless it was sub zero temps. I would just bring this Backpacking Rain Fly and a sleeping bag. I never had any issues and it saved me weight and room to carry other gear. Or just more food so I could stay out longer.

Backpacking Rain Fly Scoring

This Rain Fly is going to have more or less impact on your survival depending on where you live and what time of the year it is. Don’t let the moderate survival impact score full you, it is a must have if you are going to do any hiking to your bolt hole. It scores a 208/1000.
