Camp Kitchen Knife Set

This Camp Kitchen Knife Set is critical to do everything from the routine dinner prep to more involved butchering of fish and small game, making this Knife Set the perfect addition to your Survival Camping Gear. The pouch keeps everything organized and makes sure I don’t lose anything while packing up on either side of my trip. The knives themselves are high quality, and the sure grip handles mean that even if my hands are wet I’m not going to slip and hurt myself.

I like to keep two sets. One with my camping gear, and another with my hunting gear so I can prep game. I mostly hunt ducks, so this is perfect in size and function to get the job done. I do have a buddy who keeps one in his vehicle. He’s used it to rough butcher fresh roadkill on multiple occasion. Yes, he lives in the hills of West Virginia. I have family there still. Don’t judge.

Portable Camping Chair

These Portable Camping Chairs are my absolute favorite. I am getting older and sitting on the ground takes its toll on my back and legs. With this Camping Chair I can rest easy and enjoy my morning coffee without stressing my aging knees.

Because it packs up to the size of a water bottle, it is easy to take anywhere and everywhere. That makes it perfect for camping and hiking, but also means that if you have to bug out, its easy to grab and take with you.

I keep one of these Portable Camping Chairs with my camping gear for obvious reasons. If I know I’m going to be stuck in line or waiting I throw one in my backpack. There is nothing like relaxing while others are shifting from foot to foot while they wait for the line to inch forward.

Waterproof Dry Bags

These Waterproof Dry Bags are a basic camping necessity. What good is making it to camp if all your clothes and gear are soaked through from the pouring rain? There is gear that just can’t get wet. I guaranteed it’s going to rain while your camping or hiking at some point. Make sure the supplies you need to keep dry are in these Waterproof Dry Bags. I have been on long hikes through the rain. Once I get my Rain Fly up these Dry Bags mean I clothing to wear and dry goods to eat.

Bunk Bed Cots

When it comes to optimizing space in your tent, yurt, or off grid cabin these Bunk Bed Cots are just the thing. They let you bunk twice as many in the same floor space. It is honestly great for kids too. Who doesn’t love a bunk bed?

These Bunk Bed Cots are the perfect way to comfortably sleep additional survivors after a disaster. I’m not sure how many survivors will be with me. If I’m lucky enough to gather more of my family to me it would be good to have bunks for them.

Backpacking Rain Fly

This Lightweight Backpacking Rain Fly is a year round piece of gear. Its a sun shade, its a rain fly, and it blocks the cutting wind in the dead of winter. If you have a smaller cabin, I would stock up on these Lightweight Camping Rain Flies as they let you expand out onto the ground around your cabin while still offering some degree of protection from the elements.

Because this Fly is so light and portable it only makes sense to keep one in your pack. I take one hunting with me as well. Add some branches and I have a nice shelter to sit and weight for the sun to come up so I can pull some ducks out of the air. Yes, I eat them. I don’t believe in shooting anything I don’t eat – at least when it comes to wild animals.

When I hiked a lot I never took a a tent unless it was sub zero temps. I would just bring this Backpacking Rain Fly and a sleeping bag. I never had any issues and it saved me weight and room to carry other gear. Or just more food so I could stay out longer.

Backpacking Rain Fly Scoring

This Rain Fly is going to have more or less impact on your survival depending on where you live and what time of the year it is. Don’t let the moderate survival impact score full you, it is a must have if you are going to do any hiking to your bolt hole. It scores a 208/1000.

Survival Axe

This Survival Axe is an all purpose tool that you can keep in your garage, vehicle, and even your office with a bit of subterfuge. I keep one in my garage for those times you just need an Axe to get the job done. Sometimes that is a stubborn bit of vegetation, and others its splitting a few extra logs for the fire pit.

I Keep another Survival Axe in my vehicle. If you see it and ask me why I’ll tell you its for two reasons. The first is that sometimes trees come down on the trail up to the cabin, and its useful to be able to cut larger limbs and trunks so I can pull them out of the way. The second is that the pick end is great to break windows if I need to save someone who is trapped in their vehicle.

If you are willing to get a display case and spray paint the head silver and make a fake little plaque, you can probably get away with keeping this Survival Axe in your office as well. Its an award from the 2014 Lower Albuquerque novice fireman’s challenge. You won first place for opening unlocked doors.

Why keep so many Axes around? The honest reason is they are just very useful, but they are also great Survival Gear that will help me do everything from the routine to getting through doors and walls if I need to. YETI Tundra Haul Portable Wheeled Cooler

When it comes to keeping things cold when the temperatures are soaring this YETI Tundra Haul Portable Wheeled Cooler is a must have. Fill it with ice, food, and booze, and then try to open it as infrequently as possible. I’ve had a dozen coolers over my years of hunting and fishing, but this YETI is the last one I’ll ever need. It is built to last and has stood up to all the abuse I’ve thrown at it easily.

Some of the best hunting and fishing is way off the main trail and I have a rule. If I kill it, I’m going to eat it. Thanks to this YETI Tundra Cooler I can bring home everything I bag and nothing goes to waste.

I almost feel bad taking this YETI Tundra Cooler to the beach. The sun doesn’t stand a chance and by mid afternoon when other people are picking warm beers out of their inferior coolers I still have ice cold drinks and plenty of ice to make a few mixers.

Even though I live an hour from the coast, we still lose power due to hurricanes and storms at least once a year. We keep a few one gallon jugs in our freezer, and when the power goes out we load up the Cooler with the ice and food. Our fridge is no where near as insulated as this YETI Tundra Cooler and leaving the food in the fridge just means it will get warm within a day and we will have to throw it out. To be honest, this YETI Tundra Cooler has probably already paid for itself with the food we haven’t had to toss when the power goes out.

Tundra Portable Wheeled Cooler Scoring

When it comes to surviving everything from natural disasters to the Zombie Apocalypse, you will be grateful you have this YETI Tundra Cooler to optimize your food storage. Pair this Cooler with some solar and a freezer, and you can make ice even after the power goes out. This YETI Cooler scores a 725 as it can have a high impact on your survival.

Sun Canopy Shade Sail

When the sun is bearing down on you and won’t relent you need this Sun Canopy Shade Sail. It is perfect to protect your deck, patio, and outdoor cooking area. If you have a pool these are perfect to create shaded areas for the little ones.

The thing I really love about these Shade Sails is how portable they are. I have set them up in at least a dozen different locations over the years. I’ve shaded temporary shelters to keep the sun from making my tent feel like an oven. I’ve also put up a Shade Sail to keep my nephews from getting burnt to a crisp while they worked on getting a four wheeler back on the trail. Whenever we go camping I throw one in my vehicle just in case I need it.

I have a friend in California who puts a Sun Shade over his garden. It is just so sunny that without the Sun Shade his plants get cooked before they can grow. The point is if you have anywhere with too much sun, you can fix it.

What will you find at my bolt hole if your lucky enough to find it post Apocalypse? You will see Shade Sails over our outdoor kitchen and guard stations. Another Shade Sail will sit over the maintenance area. If I’m lucky enough to still have ammunition left, you might just find me there cleaning a few guns.

When it comes to surviving the sun, you can never have enough Sun Canopy Shade Sails.

9 Person Cabin Tent

This 9 Person Instant Cabin Tent is a must have. Warm, or cold weather, having shelter from the elements is important. It may seem like an odd bit of gear for the warm weather but trust me when I say it is a must have. Instinct will have you trying to sleep in the shade, and that usually means under trees or other cover. This Cabin Tent provides protection from ticks, bugs, and falling leaves and pine needles. There is nothing worse than waking up to find yourself covered in ticks or leaches. Yes, they both fall from trees.

The Cabin Tent gives you plenty of room, and makes a beautiful bug free place to sit and watch nature go by while you are safe from biting insects behind the screened window panels. Those panels also let you enjoy fresh air while protecting you from the elements.

When it comes to staying comfortable in the wild, having this 9 Person Instant Cabin Tent is a must.

If you are like me, your Bolt Hole might not be large enough for everyone who survives, and these 9 Person Instant Cabin Tents give me a fast and easy way to set up bunk space for however many people I’m able to save. If things go south and we need to bolt, it is also portable so we can regroup and setup a new camp somewhere else.

Insect Protection Net

I live between a river and a swampy bay. At night in the summer you can watch the insects swarm and cover street lights. Trying to camp or even just chill outside is really tough and I hate to cover myself in insect repellant just to have a drink while enjoying the cooler night air, which makes this Insect Protection Net a must have for camping, hiking, or just to enjoy some time outside.

When it comes to warm weather survival, this Insect Net is a must have. They are perfect for camping and hiking and will let you sleep in peace while still enjoying whatever breeze there is. All while protecting you from bug bites, itching, and a ton of insect born parasites and diseases.

Depending on where you are travelling, this Insect Net may be one of the most important bits of survival gear you can have. You will know that is true when you wake up in the morning and it is covered in mosquitoes.

Most people have no idea how much is spent by their local and state governments to keep insects at bay. Florida alone spends over $160 MILLION a year to kill biting insects. If a natural disaster or the Zombie Apocalypse stalls that effort for even one season, the bugs will be so thick that they will turn the noon day sun into an overcast day.

Insect Protection Net Scoring

I have one Insect Protection Net for each bedroom at my bolt hole and a few more to bunk outside to enjoy the outdoors. There is nothing like falling asleep watching the stars and listening to nature. Once things start to fall apart, these Insect Protection Nets will be critical survival gear. Once the power goes out, trust me when I say you will want to be sleeping outside and away from the trapped heat inside your home.

Still, this bit of gear is most useful during warm months, and it depends on where you live and where your bolt hole is, so this Protection Net scores a 455/1000.

  • Genuine U.S. G.I. field insect protection net.
  • Nylon ribbons at the sides and corners for tying it down.
  • Measures 68″ x 200″.
