Bushcraft Knife

The first time I held this Bushcraft Knife I fell in love with it. My buddy slapped his Knife into my hand and I knew I had to have one. The weight, and the feel in my hand was perfect. It was also raining and the fact that even with wet hands I never once thought I was going to lose my grip made this an easy choice. If you see me on the trail you will see this Bushcraft Knife on my belt.

I’ve used mine to shave kindling to start fires, process small game, and cut everything from ropes to clothing. A buddy fell and thought he’d broken his shin. We were a four hour hike from the nearest vehicle. I cut his pant leg off below the knee and thankfully there was no bone sticking out from the meat of his leg. I used this Knife and a rock to cut down two saplings and the rest of our group took turns dragging him back to our vehicles. One x-ray later and he was on crouches – but thankfully no permanent damage.

Pre disaster this Knife is a true multi tool. It holds an edge and is durable. You can’t go wrong putting it on your belt.

Post disaster this Knife is not just a multi tool but also a self defense tool. Knives don’t run out of ammo. They are quiet. If you need to defend yourself make sure you always have a last line of defense!

Bushcraft Knife Scoring

This Bushcraft Knife can have a High Impact on your survival and scores 825/1000.

How does this Bushcraft Knife compare to my Fixed Blade Knife? The major difference is their utility. The Fixed Blade Knife is really a self defense tool and isn’t as useful when it comes to camping and hiking for everyday use. The Bushcraft Knife is a true camping, hiking, and hunting tool, as well as being a self defense tool. Of course, you do pay for that extra utility.

Single Serving Coffee Packs

I have to be honest, I like my percolator and French Press and I don’t feel human in the morning until I get that first cup of caffeine into my system. The reality is that I might take my percolator on a vehicle based camping trip, but I’m probably not taking it when I have to carry it on my back. When it comes to hiking trips I want quick and easy, and that means Single Serving Coffee Packs. They come in nice Single Serving packages so I can grab two or three and throw them in my pack or a handful if I plan on being out for several days. I usually take three per day and add an extra day on for good measure.

I’m guessing these Single Serving Packs have saved me a few hundred dollars over the years as well. I take them on road trips and even when I’m flying. No way am I paying five, six, or ten dollars for a cup of coffee on the road!

Post Apocalypse I’m guessing these Single Serving Coffee Packs will also make nice little items to trade.

Single Serving Coffee Packs Scoring

Single Serving Coffee Packs can have a Low Impact on your survival and scores 176/1000. This was a hard one to score. For me, I need coffee to survive the morning – but maybe that will change when all hell is breaking loose – or it won’t.

Gas Chainsaw

A good Gas Chainsaw can save you hours of work. I’ve learned my lesson with cheaper brands, although it did take a while. Four cheap chainsaws later and I finally bought one that will last, and which I trust to continue working for as long as I maintain it. I would have saved money in the long term if I’d just purchased a high quality Chainsaw to begin with. Give me a good chainsaw and some time and I can cut enough wood to last through the winter – or build palisade walls – or build a massive raft.

If you are planning on going four wheeling, or even just taking the road less traveled, having a Gas Chainsaw on your vehicle can mean the difference between quickly cutting up a fallen tree blocking your path – or being stuck there while you scout another path around.

Many times survival comes down to having the right tool at the right time, and this Chainsaw is one of those tools that can make surviving Off Grid so much easier.

A Folding Saw is great when camping but when it comes to cutting down lots of trees for building or firewood this Chainsaw is a must have piece of Technology.

High Definition Monocular

This is my third High Definition Monocular and so far the clear winner.

I’m fairly rough on my gear, so I’m likely the root cause of the first two getting broken. A year and a half in and this High Definition Monocular is still good to go. It has some scratches and dings, but the visual quality is still top tier. I take my Monocular on hikes, to the range, and generally anywhere I might want to get a better look at what is going on around me.

If you can see it coming, you have more time to decide on the best course of action. Sometimes that is just to get a camera out so I can get a good picture, and sometimes that is to get out of the way if a Momma Bear and cubs wants my place at my fishing spot.

During a natural disaster, or unnatural disaster like a zombie apocalypse, having the ability to see what’s coming will mean the difference between life and death.

Hair Clippers

I’ve had my Classic 76 Hair Clipper for to and a half years. I like to keep my hair short, which means I would usually go to the barber every 3 weeks before I bought my Classic 76.

At $16 dollars plus a $6 tip my old haircuts cost me $22 bucks.

Over the course of 3 years, I’ve saved $1144 by cutting my own hair.

The Classic 76 Hair Clippers is what a lot of barbers and salons use – which might seem like overkill until you realize that this little investment will outlive me.

As far as style goes, with a little bit of practice there are a ton of different things you can do with a set of clippers. The reality is that short hair is just easier. Easier to keep clean, wastes less time, and makes it hard for anyone, or anything to grab onto your hair to pull you to them.

Emergency Water Storage Tanks

You can never have enough Water. When things get bad Water is going to be worth more than gold. It just takes a single natural disaster or ruptured water main to leave you high and dry. You could be living for weeks on whatever you have stockpiled. Being hungry might suck, but you can live weeks or even months with minimal caloric intake, but if you don’t have Water you are going to die in a few days.

How do you prepare? You get these Emergency Water Storage Tanks and fill them up. The bigger your family, the more Water your going to want to have safely stored. Be prepared. Rotate your water supply and make sure you use the correct water treatments to keep the water fresh and drinkable.

If you watch the news you hear about counties and cities with undrinkable water because of water main breaks and contamination. Being without water for days or weeks is bad enough. Now imagine a disaster has wiped out the water treatment plants and you may never be able to turn your tap on again.

How would you survive in the short term? You need to keep at least one of these Water Tanks per family member to be safe. That gives you six months from the start of the disaster to pray for rain or find another source of water.

Drilling And Driving Kit

What I like about this 100 Piece Drilling And Driving Kit is that it has everything I need in one Kit . No matter what size hole I need to drill, this Kit has has what I need. No matter what screw I need to turn, this 100 Piece Kit has what I need to get the job done. My biggest challenge is to always put back what I took out – so I know where it is the next time I need it. At one point I think I had three of these kits because I kept losing the four pieces I most used. Since then I’ve learned my lesson and as soon as I’m done I put the part back.

I keep one of these Kits in my garage and another at my bolt hole. Once the disaster hits it is too late to make sure you have the tools you need! Make sure you plan ahead and have the gear you need to survive!

Cooking Tripod

This Cooking Tripod is the perfect way to cook over your fire! I love it for several reasons. Firstly, I can boil lots of water quickly. When your water source is questionable this is the perfect way to boil lots of water. Secondly I can prep meals in the morning and use my fire as a slow cooker all day long so that when I get back to camp everyone has a nice hot meal. Lastly, who wants to be inside near a hot stove when you could be outside where at least there might be a breeze?

It is also super portable, meaning you can set up camp anywhere, anytime. You can grill, bake, or deep fry whenever your crew gets hungry. It’s hard to find off the undead when you’re weak from hunger.

Cooking Tripod Scoring

This Cooking Tripod can have a Low Impact on your survival and scores 275/1000. Why does it score better than the Folding Campfire Grill? The primary reason is that the Campfire Grill only lets you build a small fire under it. That is perfect for smaller groups, but when I have twenty people in camp I like to be able to make large pots of stew and other bulk meals. This Cooking Tripod let’s me use much larger pots over the fire!

Polarized Sunglasses

I was out on a hike recently, walking around the lake before everyone woke up. It was beautiful and quiet. As the sun came up over the trees I found myself walking into the sun, which had two effects on me. The first is that I was squinting because I didn’t have my Polarized Sunglasses, and the second was that I almost walked right up on a momma dear and her fawns. Lucky for me she noticed me and bolted away from me, versus into my chest.

Of course this could have been much worst. If it was a bear, or a zombie, I might not have been so lucky.

If you are lucky enough to not need glasses then these Sunglasses are perfect. Otherwise, I highly recommend getting prescription Sunglasses. When the sun is in your eyes it is hard to see, track motion, and generally function.

SPAM

There is a reason that SPAM is the #1 canned meat brand. That may sound like small praise to some, but SPAM is actually an awesome staple. When I was younger I would take it with me camping and eat it with just about everything. SPAM & eggs, SPAM stew, and toasted SPAM sandwiches. All super easy to make, tasty, and full of calories and nutrition to keep going.

Best of all, its also fully cooked, so even its pouring rain – or you can’t risk a fire, you can still eat well.

It has a stable shelf life of up to five years. Buy fresh stock, and then rotate it, eating the older stuff, and replacing it with fresh units.

Because its also very dense, it’s easy to keep a good supply at you bolt hole without taking up any real storage space at all, which is always at a premium. So stock up and be ready when the sh*t hits the fan.
