iZombie , Season 2, Episode 9

Cape Town isn’t about a city in South Africa. It is about would be caped crusaders who are turning up dead for Liv and team to find. While dealing with the mystery of who is killing the vigilantes, Liv is also forced to deal with her issues with Major.

I love how Liv makes a new meal from each victim before taking a bite. I’m not sure what that says about me. I’m sure its not bad right?

Hero Sammy

Liv lives out the would be super hero brains, putting on an eye mask to go full vigilante. While Liv is doing her best to ride out her new dose of brains, Major is dealing with his latest Zombie target. Not every Zombie wants to live the horrible life they have been forced into.

Cape Town Scoring

Cape Town is another great episode in the series. It has a few nice twists, and the chemistry between the main group is something other shows just hope to capture. How can you not love Live, Major, Ravi, and Clive? It is an awesome cast that works really well together. That chemistry was on great display during this episode and earned it a an 88/100.

Black Summer, Season 2, Episode 5

White Horse picks up the tale of Spear. He’s out in the woods, hungry, hurt and cold. There are survivors about, but Spears hides from them, not sure if they are friend or foe. At least until we walks out of the trees an comes face to face with the man who has been slowly trailing him.

An Old Friend

The newcomer gives Spears some water, and says he knows him, but Spears doesn’t seem to remember Braithwaite when he introduces himself.

Braithwaite claims to forget Spears name, and Spears is positive he doesn’t know Braithwaite, regardless of what Braithwaite says. Braithwaite says something very telling. He believes that they will both laugh once they realize who each other are.

Black Summer, Season 2

While on the move Spears and Braithwaite hunker down and watch as a man on a Pale Horse trots by. Spears wanted Braithwaite to take the shot, but Braithwaite says it wouldn’t have mattered. If he had shot, the horse would have bolted anyway.

All the while Braithwaite keeps trying out names on Spears while saying things like “It’s a clean slate all around.” A little further along they find a woodsman, crushed under a fallen tree. While scavenging they find a bit of gear to start a fire as well as a pistol, which Braithwaite hands over to Spears. I think it was this act that bought Braithwaite some of Spears trust.

Spears and Braithwaite sit around the fire, drinking the dead woodsman bottle of booze, when Braithwaite pulls out a PayDay candy bar. He’s willing to share it but Spears is allergic to nuts. As they sit there Braithwaite drops more truth bombs. He knows Spears from back in teh day, and now Spears can’t deny it. Braithwaite knows him and his brother both. It’s at the end of this interaction that we first here them pledge that bygones are bygones.

When Braithwaite wants to see how badly hurt Spears is, Spears starts throwing punches and ends up getting his ass knocked out as repayment.

When Braithwaite wakes Spears up, its dark, pouring rain, and then we hear Zombies and a horse in the distance. As they are moving through woods Braithwaite tells Spears about his cabin. There is food, guns, and ammo, they just need to live long enough to get there.

As they are walking they find strange symbols in the trees and get a little spooked. It’s not long before they get run down by a small horde and are forced to shoot, which brings more Zombies. They rush through the woods until they find a cabin to shelter in. Great right? Well, maybe not so much. The place is covered in crazy scribbles.

Crazy Ramblings

When they see blood dripping from upstairs they draw their weapons and go to clear the 2nd floor only to find an old man surrounded by the bodies of what look like cult followers.

Spears then asks the old man something prophetic:

The next morning Braithwaite and Spears walk out to a mostly dry riverbed. As they are standing there talking Spears remembers Braithwaite. In another life Spears, or Little James, put two bullets in Braithwaite as he drank a lemonade. Braithwaite goes on to say he’s no longer a vengeful person, bygones after all.

Spears seems to struggle with the knowledge, thinking it means he may need to finish the job as the White Horse comes walking up the riverbed. We see Spears put the revolver to the back to Brathwaite’s head before the other man walks away, never looking back.

Watching White Horse for a second time it was very clear that Braithwaite knew who Spears was the whole time. What was his motivation? Wouldn’t he have known or guessed that Spears would see him as a threat? Was this his effort to get some form of internal closure? It sounds like he might not have been the nicest guy back in the day, or was it just that he was alone and Spears was that rare bit of throwback to the time before? Let me know what you think in the comments.

White Horse was an intense, well written, story that detailed how the world changed how two men saw each other. In the end Spears let Braithwaite walk away, and the two went their separate ways. White Horse earned every one of its 88 points, making it Worth Your Time.

What cost it a few points? Mostly the lack of more Zombies and the lack of explanation as to why Brathwaite played what was a very dangerous game of “Do you remember me?” with a man who was a known killer.

The Walking Dead, Season 2, Episode 8

Nebraska opens exactly where Pretty Much Dead Already ended. Rick has just put down Sophia, and Carol and the team are all stunned by what they just saw.

Sophia Has Been Put To Rest

Hershel’s people are just as devastated, their family members have all been put down, or mostly put down? When Hershel’s daughter runs to her family, we find out that not all the walkers are completely dead, they were just mostly dead, but thankfully Andrea was there to finish the job.

Andrea Finishing The Job

The Secret is Out

With the secret out, Shane goes off on Hershel, who in turn demands that Team Rick moves off his land. Rick and Shane then go at it. Rick is pissed that Shane forced the issue, and Shane is pissed that Rick seems fine with the fact that there was a barn full of walkers.

Glen then proceeds to put his foot in his mouth, telling Maggie that now that they know what happened to Sophia they will move on. He doesn’t seem to see how Maggie is taking the “move on” bit. She wants him to stay.

As everyone is dealing with the fallout Andrea and several of the others clean up the Zombies, which leads to an arm getting free from the truck. I don’t know why, but I really liked this scene. It speaks to how messy The Walking Dead world is, and also to just how much we, as humans, can normalize just about anything.

Arm Pick Up

Meanwhile, Glen and Maggie are trying to deal with what happens next. Maggie clearly wants Glen to stay, and Glen isn’t picking up on what she’s laying down.

Falling Off The Wagon

When they go to find Hershel, they find he’s gone, and likely fallen off the wagon too boot. After finding an empty flask Rick decides he needs to go into town to get Hershel. Lori doesn’t understand why, not until Rick tells her they need Hershel – to deliver Shane’s baby. (He didn’t say that, but I’m pretty sure that’s Shane’s baby.)

Dale then drops a few reality bombs on Lori, telling her that he’s pretty sure that Shane killed Otis, and that Shane is going to kill someone else. Lori looks perplexed, but I think she knows that Shane has a dark side.

Out on the road, Glen tells Rick about what has been going on with Maggie.

Glen, Telling Rick About Maggie

Glen isn’t sure if Maggie really cares about him, but Rick tells him that everyone else can see it. Maggie cares about him. Glen is still so innocent and sweet at this point. The only women he’s ever professed his love to were his mom and sisters.

The Bar

In town they find Hershel at the bar, and Rick tells him that Beth needs his help. While Rick is trying to convince Hershel to come back to the farm Lori has decided to go into town to tell Rick they need Hershel emergently, and in turn ends up hitting a walker while looking at a map, and then flipping her car.

While Rick is comforting Hershel, two newcomers walk into the bar. The newly enlarged group shares a drink, before the newcomers share how they made their way from Philadelphia to Georgia before dropping the bomb that Fort Benning has been overrun.

The newcomers start to set of Rick’s alarm bells when they get real interested in where Rick’s people are, and if they have someplace to hole up. Things get ugly after Rick tells the newcomers they can’t join up with them. This leads to Rick having to take care of business.

Rick Taking Care Of Business

I love how Rick puts a final bullet into the bigger guy – just to make sure, and never has any hesitation. This is the Rick that kicks butt.

Nebraska Scoring

Nebraska scored an 88/100, making it a solid, Worth Your Time episode. It is a ground breaking episode the reveals what happened to Sophia. Nebraska is one of those episodes that just sticks in your mind.
