Not wearing the appropriate gear might just mean a trip to the emergency room when you leave the range.
Thirty years ago I was on a range at Fort Dix in New Jersey and saw a brass 5.56 casing get pulled off someone’s neck. The casing was hot enough that as it was stuck in the poor kids collar. When they pulled it off it was burnt to his skin. When it was pulled free it took skin and left a nasty bleeding burn mark behind.
Don’t end up being hurt because you didn’t wear the appropriate gear!
This is not appropriate clothing for the range.
Why do I show these videos? Because I like to go to the range and every one of these videos gives the non shooting public a bad impression of the total shooting community.
Always follow the four basic rules of Gun Safety:
Always keep firearms pointed in a safe direction.
Treat all guns as though they are loaded.
Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
Always be sure of your target and what’s beyond it.
Looking Down The Barrel of a loaded weapon is a clear violation of Rule 1. Nothing could be worse from a safety perspective. This is how people die and their families are left with horrible questions. Was it an accident? Was there something we could have done to avoid the tragedy?
Are Vampires Ruined Now? Did Twilight ruin the Vampire Genre?
I honestly don’t think so. I highly doubt the viewership between Twilight and more violent Vampire movies overlap. How many people are going to sit through Twilight if they like hard Vampires like those in Underworld?
If you are a Vampire can you let know if this has ever happened to you?
In all honesty, would it be that bad? If you are a Vampire and they are willing to leap into your arms that sounds like it would be helpful. Unless of course you are in it for the hunt. Then you might have to try and scare the hell out of them so they realize your not and “Edward”.
So the final question to Are Vampires Ruined Now comes back to – no. No, I don’t think they are. I can enjoy The Strain while you can enjoy Twilight. Just enjoy whatever you are watching. Don’t be a pain in the ass because someone likes something you don’t, or vice vera.
If you did like Twilight I would also recommend The Vampire Academy. I mean, if you are into that kind of thing. I wouldn’t know.
There is nothing like heading to the Range to enjoy some Plinking. My son and I headed out and enjoyed some disaster prep range time.
It has been a crazy year so far.
I started to look for the last Range Day Post and realized I missed at least one or two days. I didn’t log taking new shooters out to plink for some reason – mostly because it slipped my mind.
Anyway, I settled on calling today Day 2.
I have to say that I really love my Case Club case. I am running out of room in my safes so having the ability to lock this up and then put it in a locked room gives me some extra space, and also means if I have to run for it I have a nice package of firepower that is easy to move.
The club put up these new green flexible targets, which were really odd to shoot at.
These targets are screwed to the wooden base, and meant to kind of wag when you shoot them as they don’t lie down. The real issue is that they don’t actually move all that much, to the point where its not clear if you are hitting them. We ended up wrapping one in a target to see, and sure enough we were hitting them. It’s just really hard to see, which makes me think that the rounds are moving so fast, and the targets are so soft that they just fly through them.
In any case we did have fun.
Plinking Targets
You can see that I am a little low and to the left, but since its a six inch target I’m still happy.
My son was shooting a bit faster than I was, and you can see how it impacted his grouping.
If you look careful you can see where we each put a 12G slug through each target as well.
My brother went with us, but for some reason I failed to get pics of his targets.
My cousin came in to visit from upstate New York and mentioned he’s never fired a gun before. Me, being me, was like, we are absolutely taking care of this! Yes, he got his Gun Cherry Popped!
My cousin, being much smarter than I, was a bit reserved, but was a really good shot for a new shooter. I’ve seen people not even be able to hit the board the target was stapled too. My cousin was able to hit the 10 by 10 inch target on his first 10 shots.
Being a logical, sane person, I started him out on my M&P 22 which he handled well. He also shot my S&W .38 and a 12G with bird shot from my Benelli M2.
I hope he had fun. I may have overwhelmed him with the different guns I had, but I am always excited to introduce someone to shooting.
(No, he does not have a big angular square head, but I figured he didn’t want his face on my blog so I put something obnoxious there instead. If he is showing you this in a bar – rest assured he is very handsome, and a good guy. Don’t break his heart – because I have lots of guns. )
Judge, Jury, Executioner opens with Daryl playing hardball, beating the snot out of a prisoner. Daryl wants to know details about the other man’s group. How many are there? What types of weapons do they have? Daryl wants details that will give Team Rick a chance to survive. For some reason the prisoner decides to tell Daryl about what his group did to the two girls. They were raped while their father was forced to watch. Daryl, rightfully, kicks the snot out of the guy.
When Daryl goes to report to the group, Rick does something logical, and says they have to kill the kid. Dale, being the moral compass of the group, disagrees.
This is one of those times when Rick makes a solid decision. While I love Dale’s morality, the world they live in is one that would require some harsh responses to survive.
As Dale tries to rally support to his view of the world, Andrea agrees to watch the prisoner. She actually agrees with Rick’s viewpoint, but she agrees to help Dale for the short term. Shane then goes right back to questioning Rick’s decision. Even though I think Rick is doing what Shane would have done here, right?
Inside the barn we then see Carl being an idiot. He decides to go have a chat with the prisoner. Of course he gets way to close. Shane saves Carl before anything bad could happen, but still.
Dale then goes to find Daryl, hoping to sway him to his side. Instead Dale gets a shock when Daryl shows him just how smart he is. Daryl already knew that Shane killed Otis.
Carl then shows what a d*ck he can be when he tells Carol that heaven doesn’t’ exist. Rick tries to talk to Carl, telling him to apologize and make things right with Carol. Instead of going to find Carol, Carl makes another questionable decision, and steals a 45 from Daryl’s motorcycle. Carl then goes into the woods and almost gets bit. The kid has no luck. He almost sits on a Zombie stuck in the mud.
Back at the farm we see a touching scene between Hershel and Beth. This leads to Hershel sharing a few bits of wisdom with Glen. He also gives Glen two gifts. The first is Hershel’s family heirloom watch. The second is his blessing to the relationship he has with Maggie.
The group then has a meeting about the death penalty, which basically turns into Dale vs everyone else. At least until Andrea chimes in to support Dale a little bit. With the decision, made Rick, Shane, and Daryl take the prisoner out to the barn.
Rick is just about to pull the trigger when Carl shows up and tells Rick to do it. The cold bloodedness makes Rick falter, unable to do it after hearing Carl’s words. Isn’t Carl the reason that Rick is doing this? To keep his son safe? On another note – is the kid just free range? Does anyone actually watch the kid? Lori banged her husband’s partner while his body wasn’t cold, and she let’s the kid just wander around in the post apocalyptic world? Rick’s to blame too, but at least in his case he had a priority task, which is why I’m wondering what Lori was thinking?
While Rick is chickening out, Dale has gone for a walk to clear his head, and finds a wounded cow, and then a Zombie that surprises him, taking him to the ground and ripping open his chest in the process.
First of all, this sucks. Dale was one of my favorite characters. Secondly, this really highlights why basic survival rules are so important. No one goes out alone. Always go out in groups! It also highlights just how strong the Zombies are. Tearing someone’s chest open takes a lot of strength.
Judge, Jury, Executioner ends with Daryl being forced to put Dale, who is mortally injured and in excruciating pain, down. Thus, the story of Dale comes to an end. Dale, you will be missed.
Judge, Jury, Executioner Scoring
I’m giving Judge, Jury, Executioner a 70/100, mostly due to its focus on the death penalty drama, and because they killed of Dale, who I really liked.
Carl’s Questionable Decisions
Season 2, Episode 1, What Lies Ahead (29:15) – Carl scavenges a bag of edged weapons from a car without any adult supervision. Sure it turned out to be someone who was dead dead, but he had no idea.
Season 2, Episode 6, Secrets(7:45) – Carl gets caught with a revolver he stole from the RV. I get the motivation, but he should have asked first.
How is getting a Cracked Skull going to help this shooter learn to love the sport. Don’t hand new shooters weapons they can’t handle!
I don’t understand why people continue to hand weapons to shooters who don’t have the experience to handle them. That Cracked Skull could need stitches or could have put out an eye. Whoever handed that weapon to that girl didn’t do her any favors.
It’s bad for the shooter and all the rest of us.
Guns are not toys. Guns are not props for photo shoots. They are dangerous tools. Mishandle them and people will end up hurt.
Why do I show these videos and pictures? Because I like to go to the range and every one of these videos gives the non shooting public a bad impression of the total shooting community.
Always follow the four basic rules of Gun Safety:

No one wanted to go to the range with me today so it was a solo trip. No worries, I still had Range Day Fun and did a great round robin of different hand guns. I used paper targets and put Splatterburst Stickers over my first punches to make the targets last longer. Paper targets are cheap. By using a few Splatterburst Targets on them, I can still tell when I hit my targets easily.
For this exercise I put a few Splatterburst Targets up the side and in the 10 ring. I then went through a few handguns to see which I could score hits with.
I also learned a life lesson. Next time I’ll make these images larger and go from top to bottom instead of trying to squeeze them across in a single row.
All in all I put a 100 rounds through the CZ P10c, S&W M586, and the M&P 22, and 50 through the Glock 23. This was a screw up on my part. I only put one box of ammo in my ammo box when I left.
After taking a few at this target with the Glock, I switched up and hit the 10 ring with my first shot on the S&W M586. If I could only have one revolver, it would definitely bye the S&W M586. If I could only have one semi auto, its a bit tougher. I love my CZ 75 SP-01 but the CZ P10c is just such a slick piece of gear. Once I put a few hundred more rounds through it I’m pretty sure my semi auto gun of choice will end up being the CZ P10c.
If you are heading out for some Range Day Fun just remember to be safe and put on eyes and ears. I also like to wear a good pair of Shooting Gloves. It helps break them in and also trains me on how the Gloves can slightly changer the grip on each weapon.
After figuring out how to sight with this it was fun to shoot.

The thing I'm starting to love about this Glock is how clean it shoots - and how easy it is to clean - because it doesn't seem to get that dirty.

My buddy is going through a divorce and needed some cash. So I got a very nice gun that had barely any rounds down the barrel for half the retail price.
The team is out on the streets, and find themselves surrounded by other survivors, all heading towards the Stadium and its promised evacuation to safety.
Within a minute the first biter rushes the growing crowd of survivors, and the shooting starts.
The problem with shooting is that the sound brings more of the undead in an ever increasing cycle. One of the survivors is tackled. As she goes down she sprays her weapon wildly about, taking the first member of our team with a stray round.
This is one of those details a lot of shows and movies get wrong. People panic. Stray rounds can’t tell the good guys from the bad guys.
War Zone
In the chaos, Spears and Sun get separated from William and Rose. The streets of downtown are a war zone. People are moving in every which way, and the biters are among them. People are being bitten. The Zombie horde is growing. All the while bombs are falling not too far off.
Poor Lance is on his own. He is being chased by a massive horde. At least until a bomb takes out the group behind him and knocks him from his feet.
They are almost there though, the stadium is within sight.
Rose, Sun, Spears, and William meet back up on the air bridge into the stadium, but things don’t look good. There are biters in front of them, and a massive horde coming up from behind.
Sadly, William’s leg has gives out. The horde is close behind them. Rose does the only things she can and puts a bullet in his head. Being eaten alive would suck.
Life is harsh when the biters are close on your heels.
The Stadium
Spears, Sun, and Rose make it into the stadium, but there doesn’t appear to be any military there. The place looks deserted, until Rose sees her daughter come down the steps on the far side of the stadium.
Has Rose found her daughter? Or is this a hallucination? I think its real, my brother thinks she’s dreaming. I guess we have to wait for Season 2 to find out.
The Stadium Scoring
The Stadium scored a 91/100, making it Worth Your Time. Why? Firstly, it was full of for intense zombie violence. I’m talking top notch action scenes. Secondly those scene had tons of hordes, and realism. Why did it lose 9 points? Because it was too short and I want more!!!
Summer School finds Team Rose hiding inside a school, lead inside by a creepy figure wearing a hoodie.
The school looks empty, but they don’t take any risks. They grab some supplies and hole up in the band room. Spears clears the space, but is stressed and anxious.
The team tries to rest, but its not long before they are woken by someone or something on the roof. For some reason, they think going to find the cause of the noise is a good idea, but are just lead on a chase after seeing a little kid at the end of the hall.
After a brief chase they stop and we get a dose of sanity from Spears.
Spears: “Enough of this sh*t. Let’s get out of here.”
Bearded Guy: “What about the kid?”
Spears: “F*ck the kid. We’re not alone. We should go.
This is the part that drives me crazy in shows and movies. Its an apocalypse, and weird little kids are running around, taunting you. Why would you chase after them? Wait, how could Team Rose make the decision to look for the kid even worse? They could split up!
Nobody but Spears has a weapon? Why would you split up? The moment Rose and her mute friend find the bodies in the shower, they should have backtracked to Spears and bolted.
What could be worse after splitting into two groups? Brian, the mute, runs from Rose, so now there are three groups. Spears and Beard explore the basement until Beard walks through a door and sets off at trap. I’m guessing he’s dead.
Spears and Rose group back up just in time to be introduced to the kids who have taken over the school.
The kids have taken Brian, but don’t realize he’s deaf, so when they take his hood off and he starts to walk, one of the kids shoots him, which turns him into a biter. Apparently this is a world similar to The Walking Dead and if you die, you turn. This leads to an interesting lunchroom table fight while the kids cheer on the violence.
Four survivors entered. Two made it back out.
I’m giving Summer School a 70/100 because I hate it when characters do the worst possible thing when it comes to survival. They should have called the episode “Lord of the Flies” because that is what all the kids with spears reminded me of.
RANGE DAY 7 was spent with a close family friend. She had a ball and we stepped up from .22 LR to 9mm. Start new shooters slow!
Today was a big range day for lots of reasons.
The first is that I finally got to shoot my new CZ P10-C. I finished my FFL paperwork and picked it up the other day, but today was the first day I got to go to the range.
I read a lot of reviews and my final decision came down to three guns. The Smith & Wesson M&P9 Shield, Springfield XD Service, and the CZ P10-C. Why isn’t the Glock 19 on the list? I have to be honest, I’m not a huge Glock fan, and the only reason I own a G23 is because I bought it from a buddy going through a divorce. I never say never, but its likely to be the only Glock I own.
The runner up was the Smith & Wesson M&P9 Shield. I’ve got two different buddies who own this and I’ve gotten to shoot about a hundred rounds in total through two different examples. It fit my hand well, was honestly a little cheaper than what I got the CZ P10-C for, but it also felt just a little bit less solid. In the end, it was close, but the parts on the Smith & Wesson M&P9 Shield feel just a little looser, a little less solid. It was my runner up, and the honest truth is that I will likely end up buying one in the future.
Third place went to the Springfield XD Service. I didn’t get to shoot this gun, but I did get to hold it and rack the slide. It didn’t fit my hand that well and some of the reviews I read made me questions its long term reliability.
That is how I became the owner of this beautiful CZ P10-C.
The weapon comes with two clips, and yes, I already bought a few spare mags. I have to be honest, I love this gun, but I also have the same issue that many others have complained about. The slide release is amazingly tight. I can release it if I use a lot of force. It’s much easier just to pull back on the slide to release it.
I put half a case of 9mm through the gun today, which did help loosen it ever so slightly, but I will likely be buying the Apex Extended Slide Release, I just need to find one in stock. I’m pretty sure it will continue to loosen, but I like the larger lever the Apex provides in any case.
Should that turn you off the CZ P10-C? Sure, it’s a little annoying to need to put a few hundred rounds or buy an upgrade to make it work 100%, but that is offset by the rest of the gun. This thing is just a tack driver.
Someone left a pin on the target post, so I put it on top.
I hit it in about five rounds. The interesting part is that when you look at the top of the two by four, you can see where the round scored the wood.
My son thought it was a fluke. He shut up after I did the same thing two more times. Then we ran out of push pins. No, I’m not a naturally gifted shooter, but I do target shoot whenever I can, and practice and time with the same gun in your hand makes all the difference.
Long story short, yes, I really am pleased with my purchase.
What does a few clips through a single target look like?
When the other stalls are full, you kind of have to wait for everyone to need to hang targets. I also like to put the 1cm orange targets in random places and clear them. My best was 2 out of 3 with a single clip with my CZ P10-C. I hope that tell you what a straight shooter thing was.
On a side note, my son also had an amazing day. Today was his first day shooting the Smith & Wesson M586.
For the record, this is my son who’s had over a hundred eye surgeries, and yes, when the Zombie Apocalypse starts, he’s my right hand man. This was his first six round cylinder after a target change.
The second exciting thing for the day was that we took one of our family friends to the range for the first time. She had wanted to try to shoot after a bad experience in the past. The first time she went to shoot someone handed her a larger caliber gun. She doesn’t know what it was. She just knew that when she shot it, it hurt her hand, wrist, and was crying. That is not how you introduce someone to shooting if you want them to continue and enjoy the sport.
I put one round in the M&P22 and slowly let her get comfortable until she was loading a full clip and enjoying the experience. For a first time shooter, she did awesome. She was hitting the target, and having fun.
After figuring out how to sight with this it was fun to shoot.

Remember, if you use GunBroker, or live in South Jersey, stay away from County Sports in Carney’s Point NJ. They have horrible customer service and will screw you over to make an extra $5 bucks. How do I know, because that’s what they did to me.
