Pepper Gel Spray

This Pepper Gel Spray is a must have for every family member. I don’t care where you live. Good neighborhood or bad, doesn’t matter. Being prepared can save your life.

I have been Pepper sprayed twice. When it gets in your eyes and mouth, you are going down. The first time was an accident. A girl in high school hit the trigger and I ended up on the floor in blinding pain. A lot of saline wash later and I could see. I am confident that if you use this Pepper Spray your odds of surviving are going to go up.

What I like about this Gel Spray is that it doesn’t turn into a cloud around you. It is a little thicker and comes out in a stream. That reduces the risk it blows back at you, while also giving you greater range.

I buy cans of Pepper Spray for all my loved ones. I make sure they carry it. Every vehicle I own has a can in the glove box. I have another with my camping and hunting gear. There are lots of times I might want to send an unwanted animal running without killing it.

Two Handed Machete

This Two Handed Machete is perfect for clearing ground. It has a hilt designed to let you take a nice two handed grip. That lets me get a nice solid swing in when I’m chopping through that extra thick overgrowth. Brush and small trees don’t stand a chance. The field behind my house is thick with vines, thorn bushes and it grows so thick you can’t get through. At least until you take this Machete and start clearing ground. When I moved in I had maybe six feet between my back door and the thicket. Now I have a hard because I was able to make one using this Machete.

Of course the real reason we are buying this Two Handed Machete is to protect our family and gear when disaster strikes. It is well made and durable. When it gets dull it takes and edge with a stone or a file easily. Throw a pair of work gloves and a set of Pruners in your vehicle and if anyone asks the Machete is for the extra thick vines. The fact that you can keep this Machete close by gives it extra points.

Two Handed Machete Scoring

This Two Handed Machete can have an extreme impact on your survival and scores a 907/1000. It obviously earns points for passing as an everyday tool. It also gets extra points for being in that sweet spot between being long enough to give you reach, while not being so long that it makes it less useful in tighter spaces.

When disaster takes out the world as we know it you will be glad you have this Machete to defend yourself. It not only passes as an everyday item so you will have it for when the event happens, but it is also light enough to carry with you if you need to walk to your bolt hole.

Cyclone Spear

This Cyclone Spear is fiendishly effective. Because of the shape of the spear tip, it makes a wound that is hard to close. That means that if you are trying your hand at primitive hunting and score a non lethal hit, there is a good chance that all you have to do is follow the blood trail. More often than not your prey will be dead at the end of it.

Just make sure this Spear is legal to own in your state. It is an awesome survival tool/weapon. I have a buddy across state lines who owns one (because this isn’t legal where I live) and I got to play with his Cyclone Spear, including throwing it into hay bails. It is nicely balanced, deadly sharp, and took a lot of abuse without any damage.

I could easily use this Spear as a walking stick but it doesn’t exactly blend in. That makes it hard to keep nearby at all times. If you do own one you can easily keep it in your closet or build a display case, but I don’t think its something you could get away with keeping in you vehicle without generating a lot of questions.

The flips side is that this Spear is very intimidating. When the world falls apart and the scavengers try to take what you have half of them will think twice about it just seeing this weapon in your hands. The other half is going to learn real quick they should have followed the others when they ran.

If we are lucky enough to face a Zombie Apocalypse this Spear is going to give you reach to stay away from biting teeth – making it a perfect Zombie killing weapon.

Cyclone Spear Scoring

This Cyclone Spear can have a high impact on your survival and scores a 556/100. It scores a tiny bit higher than the Katana because it is a bit easier to use in tight spaces as it takes less skill to use. It is much easier to thrust and stab than swing a Katana.

Damascus Folded Steel Katana

This Damascus Folded Steel Katana is so well made it can easily be mistaken as a strict show piece. It’s not. It has a strong, durable edge that is deadly sharp. I have to be honest, I just love the way this Katana looks. The folded steel looks so amazing. It really is a piece of art. When it comes to weapons, what gets more classic than a Katana?

This Damascus Folded Steel Katana is a little harder to keep nearby before disaster strikes. I keep mine in a display case. But it is not really practical to keep it with me at all times. If I’m home when disaster strikes I know this Katana is going to serve me well. When it comes to using this blade, I would save it for outdoor use because it is easy to get it bound up when you are indoors. The length is awesome because it gives you reach, but it also means its not quite as useful if you are in a hallway or tighter spaces. Still, it never runs out of ammo, and if you use it enough to dull the edge you can always take a sharpening stone to it.

This Damascus Folded Steel Katana can have a high impact on your survival and scores a 555/1000. It’s main strength is also its main weakness. It has excellent range but that limits how well it can be used in tight spaces. It also loses a few points because its hard to keep close at hand.

Hickory Stick Tire Thumper

I love my Hickory Stick Tire Thumper. If you drive a large truck this is a must have. Driving with flat or underinflated tire can cause an accident. It has a nice weight in my hand and is incredibly durable. That’s good as its job is to basically hit stuff.

The good news is that this Tire Thumper really excels at its primary task. It hits things and if I hit something with it that isn’t a tire, its taking serious damage. Of course I just have them to check my tires, but its good to have a backup if bad things happen.

A disaster or the Zombie Apocalypse could start at any time. If I’m on the road when that happens, having this Tire Thumper gives me the ability to defend myself. Because it is a legit tool, no one blinks if they see one in my garage, vehicles, or shed. Which makes them easy to camouflage and hide them in plain sight.

If anyone does see it and comments, I just tell them its true purpose. I have it to check my tires. Of course the reason these Hickory Stick Tire Thumpers is survival. When it comes to keeping self defense weapons close at hand, this is a key piece of gear. I spend a lot of time in my vehicle, so having this Tire Thumper nearby makes me feel more confident I can handle things if I need to.

Hickory Stick Tire Thumper Scoring

This Tire Thumper scores a 509/1000 and can have a high impact on your survival. The fact that it is easy to store easily in your vehicle earns it points. It is an excellent piece of hidden survival gear. The flip side is that it does not have a huge amount of reach, which does cost it some points and keeps it from being higher on the survival scale.

Kinetic Projectile Launcher

This Non Lethal Kinetic Projectile Launcher is the perfect tool to protect yourself when lethal force isn’t justified. It is also a great tool to save yourself. I have three adult children. Every now and then one of them will drop by unannounced. They all have keys. If I accidentally shoot them with this Projectile Launcher they are likely going to be okay. If I use my 12 gauge when I hear something in the kitchen that just isn’t going to be the case.

Yes, I know this Non Lethal Kinetic Projectile Launcher isn’t going to be very effective against a Zombie, but during the Zombie Apocalypse, you also have to be on watch for other survivors. Once the food, water, and ammunition start to run out you better believe the survivors will start to turn on each other.

How do you discourage someone from approaching you without wasting a bullet? You use this Non Lethal Kinetic Projectile Launcher to blind them with pepper balls. You can then disarm them more safely, or just keep pelting them until they move along.

It also makes a great escape tool if another survivor is chasing you. It is very hard to chase someone when your eyes are on fire.

Mossy Oak Crossbow

This Mossy Oak Crossbow is perfect for taking game and putting it on your table. It is sized to fit everyone and has the safety features you want like the anti dry fire system and finger safety reminders. These make sure you know if your fingers are going to be in line with bow string – which would be bad for obvious reasons. Because this is a Crossbow it obviously doesn’t have recoil like a rifle, making it perfect for smaller hunters. It is also quiet, so if you want to set up a safe shooting range you don’t have to worry about bothering your neighbors to train.

When it comes to surviving a disaster, this Mossy Oak Crossbow gives me tons of options. The obvious is that I can put food on my table. 2020 RANGE DAY 7

RANGE DAY 7 was spent with a close family friend. She had a ball and we stepped up from .22 LR to 9mm. Start new shooters slow!

Today was a big range day for lots of reasons.

The first is that I finally got to shoot my new CZ P10-C. I finished my FFL paperwork and picked it up the other day, but today was the first day I got to go to the range.

I read a lot of reviews and my final decision came down to three guns. The Smith & Wesson M&P9 Shield, Springfield XD Service, and the CZ P10-C. Why isn’t the Glock 19 on the list? I have to be honest, I’m not a huge Glock fan, and the only reason I own a G23 is because I bought it from a buddy going through a divorce. I never say never, but its likely to be the only Glock I own.

The runner up was the Smith & Wesson M&P9 Shield. I’ve got two different buddies who own this and I’ve gotten to shoot about a hundred rounds in total through two different examples. It fit my hand well, was honestly a little cheaper than what I got the CZ P10-C for, but it also felt just a little bit less solid. In the end, it was close, but the parts on the Smith & Wesson M&P9 Shield feel just a little looser, a little less solid. It was my runner up, and the honest truth is that I will likely end up buying one in the future.

Third place went to the Springfield XD Service. I didn’t get to shoot this gun, but I did get to hold it and rack the slide. It didn’t fit my hand that well and some of the reviews I read made me questions its long term reliability.

That is how I became the owner of this beautiful CZ P10-C.

The weapon comes with two clips, and yes, I already bought a few spare mags. I have to be honest, I love this gun, but I also have the same issue that many others have complained about. The slide release is amazingly tight. I can release it if I use a lot of force. It’s much easier just to pull back on the slide to release it.

I put half a case of 9mm through the gun today, which did help loosen it ever so slightly, but I will likely be buying the Apex Extended Slide Release, I just need to find one in stock. I’m pretty sure it will continue to loosen, but I like the larger lever the Apex provides in any case.

Should that turn you off the CZ P10-C? Sure, it’s a little annoying to need to put a few hundred rounds or buy an upgrade to make it work 100%, but that is offset by the rest of the gun. This thing is just a tack driver.

Someone left a pin on the target post, so I put it on top.

I hit it in about five rounds. The interesting part is that when you look at the top of the two by four, you can see where the round scored the wood.

My son thought it was a fluke. He shut up after I did the same thing two more times. Then we ran out of push pins. No, I’m not a naturally gifted shooter, but I do target shoot whenever I can, and practice and time with the same gun in your hand makes all the difference.

Long story short, yes, I really am pleased with my purchase.

What does a few clips through a single target look like?

When the other stalls are full, you kind of have to wait for everyone to need to hang targets. I also like to put the 1cm orange targets in random places and clear them. My best was 2 out of 3 with a single clip with my CZ P10-C. I hope that tell you what a straight shooter thing was.

On a side note, my son also had an amazing day. Today was his first day shooting the Smith & Wesson M586.

For the record, this is my son who’s had over a hundred eye surgeries, and yes, when the Zombie Apocalypse starts, he’s my right hand man. This was his first six round cylinder after a target change.

The second exciting thing for the day was that we took one of our family friends to the range for the first time. She had wanted to try to shoot after a bad experience in the past. The first time she went to shoot someone handed her a larger caliber gun. She doesn’t know what it was. She just knew that when she shot it, it hurt her hand, wrist, and was crying. That is not how you introduce someone to shooting if you want them to continue and enjoy the sport.

I put one round in the M&P22 and slowly let her get comfortable until she was loading a full clip and enjoying the experience. For a first time shooter, she did awesome. She was hitting the target, and having fun.

Recommended Shooting Gear:

Remember, if you use GunBroker, or live in South Jersey, stay away from County Sports in Carney’s Point NJ. They have horrible customer service and will screw you over to make an extra $5 bucks. How do I know, because that’s what they did to me.

If you are heading out for some Range Day Fun just remember to be safe and put on eyes and ears. I also like to wear a good pair of Shooting Gloves. It helps break them in and also trains me on how the Gloves can slightly changer the grip on each weapon.

2020 RANGE DAY 5

I’m finally able to get around and feel good enough to get back out to the range. This was more than a regular range day though! Why? Because it was also my first outing with my new (to me) Smith & Wesson M586.

I didn’t hesitate. I had the option to get the M686 in stainless or the M586 which is blued. The blued M586 just calls to me.

How can you not pick the blued version? I just love the blued steel and the classic wooden grips.

I fell in love with Smith & Wesson revolvers years ago when my father in law took me to the range with his M686. That was over two decades ago now, and even though he’s since passed, i still remember spending time with him at the range.

M586 Shooting

How does this M586 shoot? This Smith & Wesson is just smooth as butter. It feels like it was made for my hand, and the action is honestly the smoothest I’ve ever felt.

At 30 feet, I was honestly very happy with my first twelve shots.

It’s a six inch target, so I felt like it was a good beginning. Add in the fact that I’m just now up and on my feet and able to get around reliably, and I was doubly happy. Back issues suck, so being able to get out to the range was super special today.

How does my new Model 586 compare to my Model 64?

There were really two main things I appreciated when switching between these two pistols.

M586 vs M64

The first was the action. The M586 benefits from 10 years of advancements over the M64. The Model 64 came out in 1970, while the Model 586 was released in 1980. The trigger on the Model 586 is incredibly smooth. It doesn’t matter if I was firing in single, or double action, the trigger on this Model 586 was just perfect.

The second was felt recoil. The Model 586 is obviously chambered in .357 Magnum and was designed to handle rounds that would destroy the Model 64’s frame. That basically equates to a revolver that is just a little beefier, and when firing .38’s, the Model 586 barely feels any kick at all.

Overall, I’m incredibly happy with my new Model 586 and can’t wait to get out to the range again.

I only had one box of 100 rounds, of .38 left, so once that was sent down range I shot an equal amount of .22 and .40.

When it comes to the .22, it is basically a nail driver.

I was in a 30 foot stall for all my shooting today, so I can’t really complain about anything. My first Smith & Wesson M&P 22 round were all within an inch and a half. What more can you want?
