ZOMBIE SERIES – Z NATION, SEASON 3, EPISODE 14, Everybody Dies in the End

Everybody Dies in the End is the Season 3 finale, and I’m hoping its as high octane as last episode, which really kicked some butt.

The Man has the now teen Lucy, and he’s trying to convince her that no one is coming to save her, not even Addy – but Lucy still has faith.

Zombie Guide

What The Man doesn’t know is that Lucy is a smart kid, and she’s left behind a Zombie Guide for Addie to use as a tracker. He also doesn’t know that Kaya is tracking him, and directing Team Warren down on him as well.

When The Man get’s to the meeting point, he finds it flooded with Zombie’s, and they aren’t the kind that Lucy can control. Good thing for The Man a strike team from Zona is there to save his bacon.

Strike Team Mows Down A Horde

The Man quickly discovers that whatever is going on, things at Zona may be falling apart. The strike team he thought was sent to pick him up is actually just a group of soldiers left there without orders, and just like the other Zona survivors, they are losing their immunity.

Outside Addie, Doc, and the Zombie Guide have reached the Zona compound, but its a long way up, and no easy way to get in. Addie decides to climb, leaving Doc behind with the Zombie Guide in case she is wrong. It’s not too long before Doc is ambushed by paratroopers, and they don’t appear to be doing so well either.

Infected Eyes

Doc and Zombie Guide are about to get overrun when Team Warren shows up to save him, but Zombie Guide is given Mercy before Doc can explain that he’s helping them.

We now have two teams closing in on The Man. Addie is climbing the mountain as Team Warren is coming through from the lower entrance that the now dead Zona Paratroopers opened up before turning.

Inside, The Man is trying to comfort Lucy, telling her he’s going to protect her, even from death. I was really expecting her to bite him as he held her, but I guess it was just a moment of honest fear on her part.

While all this is going on 10K is dying. How to do you save a dying man? Well, during the Zombie Apocalypse you strangle him, have Murphy bite him, and inject him with a dose of Zombie Vaccine all at the same time.

Which leads us to the final confrontation. Team Warren has reached the top of the Zona compound. Warren is shocked to see Lucy is now a teen, but Doc has a pretty good explanation.

It’s The Apocalypse Stupid

As Warren is trying to negotiate with The Man Murphy takes the moment of distraction to wing The Man and grab Lucy. Warren faces off with The Man for a moment before Murphy steps in, wanting to put an end to The Man once and for all. Unfortunately for Murphy, his brief moment of strength ends up getting both him and Warren shot.

Double Shot

With Warren and Murphy down The Man picks up Lucy, throws her over his shoulder, and takes her up to the helipad.

This is when thing get really weird. Addie shows up, grabs Lucy, and they jump off the edge of the platform. Red’s little brother then follows them over the edge, and Season 3 ends on a cliff hanger as a futuristic flying vessel shows up and shoots a pulse rifle several times. We see Murphy and Warren’s eyes glowing bluish before the season comes to an end.

Really? This is how we are ending Season 3. After the massive build up from Duel, Everybody Dies in the End is a bit of a letdown. Everybody Dies in the End earned itself a 70/100, and is Worth Your Time, but I really hate cliffhanger endings like this.

ZOMBIE SERIES – Z NATION, SEASON 3, EPISODE 13, Duel

Duel is such an ominous name isn’t it? I can’t wait to see who the duelists are? Warren vs The Man? Warren vs Murphy? The Man vs Murphy? There are so many options!

The episode starts with Addy finding Lucy down by the docks.

Addy tries to get Lucy to flee before The Man returns, but the kid isn’t as old as she looks and still acts like a spoiled brat, which gives The Man time to return and put Addy through the ringer before Lucy flees, forcing The Man and Addy to both chase after her instead of fight each other.

Addy Getting A Beat Down

Addy tries to reach Lucy, but gets trapped on a burning boat as he flees with the kid, forcing Addy to run for her life before the boat goes up in a ball of flames.

Boom Goes The Boat

Addy thinks she’s lost the trail but Lucy uses her Zombie control to have a dismembered arm point in her direction once again.

Even beat up and hurt, Addy still can’t help but smile as she leaves Doc a note, and some Z weed before heading back after The Man.

Addy Took A Beating

With a little bit of corner cutting Addy is able to get in front of The Man and doesn’t screw around with the Z Whacker this time, instead opting to just put a few bullets in him.

The Man Goes Down

Addy rescues Lucy, but for some reason doesn’t put a bullet in The Man’s head before driving away.

Safe for the moment, Addy stops to get Lucy some new clothing, and is forced to tell Lucy that her mother is dead, which doesn’t go over well with the kid. This leads to Lucy telling Addy that the Zombies still have thoughts, and remember things like their names. Addy thinks the kid is making it up, but isn’t quite sure.

The really bad news? All this lollygagging gives The Man the time he needs to catch back up and take Lucy from Addy. This leads to another face off between Addy and The Man, and quite honestly, Addy is outmatched.

Addy Gets Another Beatdown

Addy ends up with what looks like a broken or dislocated arm and The Man gets away again with Lucy.

Once in the car the stress makes Lucy age again, and The Man is not happy to have to deal with a teenager.

Back at the river, Addy is up, but she’s in a lot of pain and can only just barely defend herself and is forced to put her shoulder back in the socket with a brutal smack into a tree.

While Addy is suffering, Doc is having a much better time, hallucinating about Back to the Future due to the high quality Z Weed Addy left behind for him.

While Addy is suffering, The Man is on a search for chocolate for Lucy, not quite realizing why its such a priority until she freaks out. She thinks she’s dying when she starts to, well, menstruate.

Lucy Is Growing Up

Emboldened by her realization that The Man is afraid of Zombies, Lucy steals The Man’s truck and makes her way out to the forest road to pick up Addy. Lucy thinks she killed the man when she ran him over, but he’s one tough b*stard and is just holding onto the bottom.

Once again The Man has Lucy and Addy is not looking too good.

Addy Takes A Beating But Refuses To Give Up

Duel ends with Addy stealing another truck and picking up Doc who is bicycling after her. He looks like he wants to cry when he sees how hurt she is but instead he gets in the truck so they can keep following The Man.

In the end, I totally guessed wrong. The Duel was between Addy and The Man, and she put up one hell of a fight. Duel scored a 90/100 and is Worth Your Time. It was pretty much non stop on the action front and had a ton of really good fight scenes, even if Addy was getting her butt kicked in most of them.

ZOMBIE SERIES – Z NATION, SEASON 3, EPISODE 12, The Siege of Murphytown

The Siege of Murphytown opens with a picturesque image of Addy flying down a country road, trying to catch up to The Man so she can rescue Lucy. It’s not long before she finds The Man’s car at a gas station surrounded by dead Zombies. She’s found the vehicle, but where are they?

Addy On The Open Road

Meanwhile Kaya is keeping on eye on Murphytown from Camp Northern Light as Citizen Z is heading south with Kaya’s grandfather Kaskae. As Kaya is monitoring Murphytown she confirms that Warren is onsite via facial recognition.

Warren’s Facial ID

Whatever 10K/Thomas’s mission is, he doesn’t make it very far before he’s captured by Warren. She’s on a mission to bring Murphy back into the fold. Once Warren’s got 10K/Thomas in her control she also finds the note that Murphy gave him. Murphy wants Warren, dead or alive. Just after Warren gives 10K another vaccine, hoping to free him if she can, Murphy shows up to talk.

Murphy Has The High Ground

Murphy has the Red Hand and Warren surrounded and outgunned. He’s willing to allow some of them to join him, or they can be his enemies. Murphy leaves, and takes 10K/Thomas with him. So is 10K fully under Murphy’s control or did the shot Warren give him free him?

Even after Murphy surprised them, Warren still moves forward with her assault. Murphy seems to know its coming, so I don’t honestly understand why he didn’t just gun down Warren and the Red Hand?

While Warren is heading into Murphtown Kaya is able to get her attention, but isn’t able to send any super helpful information before the communication drops.

Things get a little chaotic after that. 10K and the powerplant supervisor get attacked by the Red Hand and 10K only survives because Red shows up to drag him away, but I honestly don’t know if its another 10K delusion or if she’s real this time.

After that, the Red Hand pulls of their “Front Gate Distraction” which revolved around torturing one of the female blends by attaching her to a winch and not letting her be rescued while the rest of the Red Hand opens up on Murphytown.

Murphy’s power stems from taking away his peoples fear, and its clear in the way that Murphy reacted, by forcing the fear out of their minds so that they can fight, that he’s losing that control.

Warren uses the distraction to sneak in and ends up coming face to face with one of Murphy’s first bite victims, and takes her down with a machete. This was honestly a little brutal. As the woman is dying, she tells Warren that Murphy loved her.

Murphy Loves You

The Red Hand is getting destroyed. There are just too many Murphy blends, and Zombies in the moat for them to carry the day. They do buy Warren the time she needs to confront Murphy though.

While Warren is confronting Murphy, 10K confronts Dr. Sun Mei, and we get a very touching moment between Red and 10K when 10K tells her that whenever he’s in trouble, a vision of her comes to try and save him, but she’s not real. Dr. Sun Mei sees her too, and that means Red is real!!!

Red Is Real!!!

Meanwhile Warren is confronting Murphy, and confirms what she suspected by holding out some yummy brains that he can’t resist. Warren has the drop on him at first, but with the Red Hand defeated, the rest of the Murphy Blends arrive to back Warren up.

Warren is saved from immediate danger when Citizen Z shows up with the message that The Man has Lucy.

As Citizen Z is letting Kaya know he’s safely at Murphyton and they are going to go after Lucy, Kaya telling Citizen Z that she missed her period, which leads to an awesome Morse code code.

Citizen Z Is Going To Be A Daddy

I love Citizen Z’s reaction. He’s psyched to be a father is going to come home to be with her.

The Siege of Murphytown ends with Addy still on The Man and Lucy’s trail, and Lucy is helping by leaving Zombies pointing the way.

The Siege of Murphytown scored a 70/100. The main reason is this episode crossed over that line of being quirky and violent into being believable. When the Zombie Blend is screaming, being pulled back by the winch, her voice is really haunting. The terror in her voice was too real and seemed a little out of sync with the overall vibe of the series, so it cost it some points.

ZOMBIE SERIES – Z NATION, SEASON 3, EPISODE 8, Election Day

Election Day starts with a nice squish as we see several survivors rolling down the road in an RV and taking out several Zombies in the process.

RV Versus Zombies

After we see the Zombies lose to the RV, we cut over to Doc and 10K, stranded on the side of the road, at least until the Presidential Motorcade comes rolling along.

Presidential Motorcade

Or if it’s not the president, it is at least Sketchy and Skeezy, and they have stolen Clinton’s limo from his presidential museum and are using it, combined with a few new dance partners, to grift what they can from survivors.

Dance party

While Sketchy and Skeezy are running their con, a young woman comes up, begging for help. Her husband and a bunch of other survivors are sick. Sketchy ignores her, but Doc offers to take a look, even if there isn’t much he can do. The sick all have strange yellow streaking through their eyes.

Yellow Fever?

As Sketchy & Skeezy deal with their presidential competition, we see the RV from the opening scenes approaching town from one direction as a small horde comes in from the other.

The Zombies arrive just in time to interfere with Skeezy’s presidential debate which leads to a presidential zombie hunt, which of course means Addy had to step in to save the day.

Hammer Time

As Addy kicks some Zombie *ss Doc has found the source of the yellow eye disease. The filter on the town’s reservoir had a Zombie head in it. Lucky for the town’s survivors, Doc watched some Naked & Afraid before the apocalypse and shows the town’s mayor how to fix it using charcoal.

We then find out who the men in the RV are. They’ve been scammed by the fake presidents and want some revenge.

Election Day ends with Doc and Addy using the chaos to escape in the stolen presidential limo. It’s time for them to get back to their main mission of finding Lucy.

Election Day was a fun episode with some good Zombie kills, which is always a plus. Election Day scored 80/100, making it Worth Your Time.

Things I Loved About This Episode:

  • The opening RV Zombie Kill.
  • The way Addy checked out the dancing girls.
  • Addy going to town on the Zombie with a mallet.
  • Zombie pom pom girls.
  • The fact that Doc won the election at the end.

ZOMBIE SERIES – Z NATION, SEASON 3, EPISODE 7, Welcome to Murphytown

Welcome to Murphytown kicks off with a violent interlude as The Man takes out a zombie with what looks like an oversized boomerang before cutting off the zombie’s arm.

Immediately after, we see a pack of Zombie Children being used to run down a haggard looking man until they have him treed.

Treed By The Zombie Kids

With his fate sealed, the man is then forced join Murphy and his crew as they work on bringing Murphytown fully online. As Murphy’s men are vaccinating new members, The Man can be seen sneaking into camp.

While Murphy is building his new society Doc and 10K are working their way down the highway, at least until they are lucky enough to bump into Team Warren.

Doc Brining 10K Home

With Team Warren reunited, 10K gives them the news that Murphy is building a following and effectively making other survivors into his slaves by biting or injecting them with Murphy Vaccine.

Car Thieves Pay With Their Lives

As Team Warren moves towards Murphytown they discover an interesting gas station/boat dock. There are multiple dead zombies about and an interesting sign. Someone is still claiming to be El Scorpion.

While 10K is fighting off Murphy’s mind control and the team is trying to figure out what is in Murphy’s booster shots, Citizen Z and his new Eskimo family have made their way back to Camp Northern Light with the hopes of bringing it back online now that he has some help.

Meanwhile Murphy has recognized The Man and had him brought to him. I guess to make sure the wound is real, Murphy gets his finger into the wound.

The Man Getting Murphied

The Man tells Murphy he’s not working for his old bosses, and just wants to be a part of whatever Murphy is building. When challenged on his loyalties, Murphy tells The Man he needs fresh brains – for his research.

Brains

The man goes one step further by eating the brains after Murphy commands him to do so. Murphy now has a professional to acquire brains for snacking on.

After The Man leaves Murphy asks his lieutenant if he’s sure The Man got the vaccine. As Murphy is being assured The Man got the vaccine we see a flashback of The Man using the Zombie Arm he acquired in the very opening scenes of the episode along with a jacket to fake getting the vaccine then cut back to the current timeline to watch as The Man barfs up the brains he just ate.

As Team Warren splits up to take care of Murphy and his daughter, we see The Man luring Murphy into a false sense of security by delivering on his promise of bringing brains. As Murphy is chowing down The Man makes his move, taking Murphy captive at gunpoint.

Brains, It’s What’s For Dinner

At least until Murphy’s blends save him.

As Addy and Doc are driving they get serenaded by Kaya as she kicks butt in a Zombie Apocalypse themed rap. You go Kaya.

Welcome to Murphytown ends with Team Warren watching as the lights come on in Murphytown, realizing that they might have bitten off more than they can chew.

The Lights Coming On In Murphytown

The very last thing we see is Murphy going back into his thrown room to find The Man has removed his own hand to escape his bonds.

I enjoyed the story progression, and loved Kaya’s rap, which was one of the high points of Welcome to Murphytown, but I have to take some points off for not having a lot of Zombies being given mercy. Welcome to Murphytown scored a 67/100. It’s still worth your time, but its more of a storyline progression than Zombie driven episode.

ZOMBIE SERIES – Z NATION, SEASON 3, EPISODE 5, Little Red and the Wolfz

Little Red and the Wolfz begins with 10K. After jumping into the river to escape Murphy’s Minions, he’s been carried downstream, away from his pursuers. Even wounded and cold, 10K was able to keep his grip on the bag of Zombie Cure.

10K Down – Stream

While 10K is struggling to survive out on the river bank Murphy is sad and maudlin at the loss of Dr. Merch. He wishes he understood why she did it, and as he’s walking around her corpse, he is pulled in by the look and smell of her delicious brains.

Temptation

Murphy is resisting but the more he ponders why she did it the more agitated he becomes.

10K might have escaped Murphy’s compound, but he’s bleeding and out in the wild and still has one of Murphy’s henchmen on his trail. 10K flees into the water, climbing onto what’s left of a wooden picnic table to drift downstream. He might be wounded, but when he comes across a man on a motorcycle, he still has enough in him to steal the bike and race away, leading to a bit of motorcycle handgun practice. (Highly dangerous – don’t try it.) He makes it to a nearby farm before getting knocked off the bike by a drag line. At least he had a good dream while he was out cold, imagining Red kissing him.

Dreaming Of Red

When 10K wakes up he’s not in quite as happy a place. He’s been chained to a car and there are multiple Zombies approaching. He takes down several, but his wound is slowing him down and sapping his strength. Which leads to an awesome Zombie Kill.

Hubcap of Death

10K is kicking butt, but he’s getting tired, and the Zombies just keep coming. It’s looking bad for 10K until Murphy’s henchman shows up and saves him just in time. He doesn’t really care about 10K, but he wants to get back the bag of curative because he knows Murphy needs it. 10K doesn’t want to go back to being a Murphy puppet however and takes the first chance he gets to bash his captor in the face with a rock and make a run for it. He doesn’t get far however before he’s caught and given a bit of pain in return for his efforts.

Out on the back roads we see the couple who stole the bike from 10K. There is a pack of something in the woods. Something that is fast, and finds people delicious.

Back at Murphy’s compound he realizes he needs to make more Zombie booster for himself after he looks at his arm and realizes he has patches of pale, healthy, human flesh. That’s just about when he picks up a fork and looks over at Dr. Merch’s lovely brains, just waiting to be eaten.

10K and his captor track down the motorbike in hopes of finding the bag of Zombie Meds only to be chased off by whatever else is in the woods with them. 10K uses the brief moment of confusion to fake his death, and continue running, following his imaginary Red who is urging him to run, at least until she confront him, telling him he has to go back and save 5K.

This leads to a nice, if choppy fight scene where 10K takes down multiple beasties, thinking he is saving 5K, when its really the woman who stole the bike, and the meds, from him. It’s too late to save her, but he does recover the bag of meds. Feeling Murphy’s pull on him, 10K takes another shot and falls into another dream, lost in happy daydreams of Red and 5K.

10K’s Happy Place

Little Red and the Wolfz ends with Murphy chowing down on Dr. Merch’s brains, now able to read her journal and understand it. Murphy’s henchman comes back and tells Murphy that 10K is dead, but Murphy doesn’t believe it. He knows that 10K is a tough kid, and if he escaped, that means 10K will be heading for Warren, and then coming for him. Murphy’s final command of the episode is to tell his team to get ready for an attack.

Little Red and the Wolfz was a tough episode to rate. I loved all the Zombie violence, but the Zombie Meds stuff was a little confusing. The shot is a booster for Murphy but it saves 10K from Murphy’s powers? Maybe I’m just missing something. Overall it was still a fun, action packed episode and scored a 79/100.

Escorpion and the Red Hand finds themselves greeted by disemboweled Zombies, their bodies hanging off an overpass in warning.

Shocked

The Zombie Apocalypse being what it is, the ropes are cut just as Team Warren is staring up at the hanging Zombies, but don’t worry, it also gave us an awesome Zombie Kill.

Zombie Slice – O – Matic

With the Zombies taken care of Team Warren is ambushed by a small group who mistakes them for the “Red Hand” gang who came into town and murdered people. The newcomers are going to get get revenge on the “Red Hand” and their leader Escorpion, only Hector is right there, so who is pretending to be him?

Back in Spokane Murphy has expanded his compound and his followers, but at a cost. Murphy is weak from giving blood so his doctor can try and find a cure, and he’s impatient. As Murphy is leaving in a huff his doctor gives 10K a hit of the cure, and he immediately drops, foaming at the mouth.

10K With A Minor Reaction To The “Cure”

Lucky for 10K, the doctor was just breaking Murphy’s hold over him, and wants 10K to help her escape.

While 10K is suffering, Team Warren is on the hunt for the “Red Hand”. While Warren and Hector are being threated that Escorpion is going to kill them by a wounded “Red Hand” soldier, Addy is in pain, an infected tooth poisoning her blood. Dr. Sun Mei wants to pull her teeth, but Addy isn’t happy about potentially having a gap in her smile.

After questioning their wounded “Red Hand” soldier Warren realizes that the “Red Hand” is overly motivated to kill the other group of survivors and we find out from the prisoner that the other group of survivors killed members of the “Red Hand” in order to steal food.

While Warren & Hector are fighting in the front of the warehouse, Dr. Sun Mei and Doc are playing emergency dentist, holding Addy down to pull her infected tooth.

Emergency Dental Extraction

I have to be honest, this is one of my worst fears in the Apocalypse. I can take a lot of pain, but I hate having dental issues, and the thought of having to do novice dentistry just sends s chill down my spine.

While Addy is being worked on, the “Red Hand” is sending bomb Zombies at the front door. Warren is able to distract one, but the second puts a huge hole in the building and sends Warren flying to the floor, knocked unconscious as a small horde comes rolling in. Warren and Hector barely survive the fight, but in the process one of the other survivors sees the tattoo on Hector’s arm and realizes who he is.

Back at Murphy’s compound 10K is ready to make his escape but when he goes back for the doctor, he finds that Murphy has found them out. 10K does the only thing he can do, which is jump out a window and run. 10K escapes as Murphy and his doctor vaccinate Murphy’s people.

With the survivors thinking that Hector is the acting leader of the “Red Hand” they attack, and lose. For some reason the “Red Hand” then decides to move on, leaving Team Warren to leave.

Escorpion and the Red Hand ends with Dr. Merch ignoring Murphy’s commands and escaping the only way she has left, by walking into the Zombie moat and putting a scalpel in her neck.

Dr. Merch Bites It (Or Vice Versa)

Escorpion and the Red Hand was an interesting episode but it had some plot holes with the way the “Red Hand” just up and leaves after they have essentially won. Why do that? Which is why Escorpion and the Red Hand scored a 70/100.

ZOMBIE SERIES – Z NATION, SEASON 3, EPISODE 3, Murphy’s Miracle

Murphy’s Miracle picks up right where A New Mission left off. Team Murphy is on the road, and get stuck behind the only other car in a thousand miles. Murphy is ticked at first, but when he goes to check what’s the holdup he finds that there is a sick kid who is about to turn in the other car. What does Murphy do? I guess he saves her? Is it really saving her if she ends up like Cassandra?

Miracle Or Murder

While Murphy is playing god, Team Warren thinks they are hot on his tracks only to find out that Murphy was leading them on a wild goose chase after hiding the tracker on a Zombie. As Team Warren is looking for a vehicle they come across a food truck that is surrounded by Zombies, and we get introduced to the town’s mailman, who doesn’t want any of his Zombies hurt.

Surrounded

Up in the arctic Kaya is pepping Citizen Z up, trying to get him to understand how important he was. His transmitter is dead, and without it he’s just Simon, but Kaya doesn’t buy it. People need to hear the voice of hope, to know that everything isn’t lost. I love Kaya’s attitude! A little bit later kaya reveals her softer side, breaking down when Citizen Z tells her there is no one left to hear him even if did get back on the radio. They are just about to smooch when the radio distracts them. A little bit later at dinner Citizen Z discovers that while Kaya and her family have been incredibly kind to him, the small family is almost out of food. Lucky for them, Citizen Z knows where there is more food.

While Team Murphy is exploring Spokane, Team Warren is helping the Postman in exchange for gas and supplies. As they are helping him the realize something is very odd in town. The Zombies in town are very focused on the Postman, and it doesn’t seem natural. They corner the Postman, thinking maybe he’s been bit by Murphy or has some other power, going so far as to make sure he’s not doing, well, other things, with the undead.

Sexual Contact

With the heat on, The Postman just wants Team Warren gone, so he agrees to take them into the basement shelter to get supplies, which is when they start to find dead mail carriers who’ve been shot in the head. That is just about when the Postman opens a door, leaving Team Warren to fight for their lives in the near dark. This leads to what I think is the Best Zombie Kill of the episode when Hector goes to town with a Cancelled stamp.

Cancelled

When the fighting is done Team Warren finds the real Postmaster among the dead zombies, confirming their suspicions that something wasn’t right.

While Warren, Doc, Addy, and Hector are locked in the basement the Postman goes back upstairs and takes Dr. Sun Mei prisoner at gunpoint, leading her to his torture dungeon.

Torture Dungeon

Once in the Dungeon, the Postman reveals his true nature. He killed his townsfolk because he was angry at how they treated him, and jealous of their lives. The townspeople aren’t following him because he feeds them, or love him, they are following him because he was the last thing they say before dying.

Dr. Sun Mei is able to save throw a jar of ichor at the Postman and save herself long enough to open the dungeon door so the Zombie townspeople can take their revenge.

Murphy’s Miracle ends with Murphy sitting on his self proclaimed throne as 10K struggles with being under Murphy’s influence when the family from the opening scenes shows up, wanting to thank Murphy for saving their daughter, who is not longer scared.

It’s Good To Be King

Not only do they want to thank him, but the husband wants Murphy to bite his wife. Murphy is smiling as Murphy’s Miracle comes to an end.

Murphy’s Miracle scored an 80/100. I really liked the twist with the postman and loved the progression of Citizen Z’s story, which is why this episode is Worth Your Time.

ZOMBIE SERIES – Z NATION, SEASON 3, EPISODE 2, A New Mission

A New Mission begins with Citizen Z, nearly frozen to death, stranded out in the snow in the far north when we see someone put him on the sled and begin to pull him away.

Citizen Z On The Ice

We then cut over to Warren just as Murphy is approaching from the sub. We have apparently fallen back in time from Episode 1. A group Asian special forces have Warren, Doc, Addy, and Escorpion while Murphy has decided to set out on his own.

Murphy, 10K and Murphy’s Zombie Slaves don’t make it far before two of their four wheelers blow tires, leaving them group open to attack by a group of very barbarian like newcomers. Murphy tries to stop them, but they aren’t Zombies, and his power doesn’t hold sway over them.

Savages

The special forces have air support, including an air drop of supplies. Unfortunately, everyone for miles around can see the supplies falling from the sky, creating a mad rush to get there first.

Back in the north Citizen Z is slowly coming to, waking up next to a young lady. He doesn’t know where he is, but Pup is okay and he’s warm, so why not lie back down and rest. In the end it does make sense. If they wanted to harm him, he wouldn’t be waking up at all.

Citizen Z Got Lucky

Back on the race to the supplies, the special forces holding Team Warren show just how much firepower they have. A small group of Zombies approach, and is rapidly taken out by a laser grenade.

Laser Grenade

The special forces, being overly confident, almost fall pray to a Zombie straggler, but Warren and Escorpion take care of the Zombie even though they are in handcuffs. The act of good leads the leader of the Special Forces to at least cut their zip ties off so they can use their hands again.

Back over on the Team Murphy side 10K is trying to break away from whatever hold Murphy has on him when they hear something approaching. A massive ball of Zombies is rolling along, tearing into itself as the starving Zombies eat each other.

Zombie Ball

Out on the hunt for the air drop, the special forces have decided to give Team Warren their weapons back, with some small modifications. Addy gets a new Z-Whacker and this time its electrified.

Shockingly Nice Modifications

Back in the cold North Citizen Z has woken up, literally, on every front, and we get introduced to Kaya, who apparently a huge fan of Citizen Z. Kaya has a flat affect, but I love the way she approaches life, and her affection that is already apparent for Citizen Z.

Back on the hunt for the supply drop the special forces go down after one poorly times laser zombie throw gets tossed back at the soldiers and all of them but one gets their heads popped off. The survivor is bleeding though, and he doesn’t last long when the smell brings a hungry Zombie his way. The mission has been a total bust. The female leader of the special forces is still alive, but her team is dead, and the supplies have been destroyed.

Warren takes control the situation. Their new mission is to get Murphy, and help save the world, because no one else is going to do it. This is just about when Murphy rolls up in an armored vehicle. Murphy wants Warren to join his mission, and he has no desire to save anyone.

As Team Warren is struggling with their next step to bring Murphy back into their fold, Citizen Z is watching the northern lights with Kaya.

The episode ends with The man showing the name on his paper, and no surprises here, he’s after Murphy.

Alvin Bernard Murphy

A New Mission had some great scenes and I loved seeing Citizen Z made it after nearly freezing to death. Overall I’m giving A New Mission  a 77/100, making it Worth Your Time.

ZOMBIE SERIES – Z NATION, SEASON 3, EPISODE 1, No Mercy

No Mercy kicks off Season 3 of Z Nation with the introduction of a new character. “The Man” has come to town. The Man works for some very serious people, and he’ll do whatever it takes to find his target, Dr. Teller.

The Man

The Man is pretty certain he knows Dr. Teller is in the survivor’s compound, and is willing to take a kid hostage to get what he wants. The kid manages to escape The Man and meets up with Team Murphy in the process.

This leads an an awesome opening montage with lots of Zombies receiving Mercy. My two favorites were 10K’s double kill:

One Shot, Two Kills

Followed up by Doc’s hammers of mercy:

After Team Murphy kicks some Zombie *ss the kid asks them for help and when they balk, grabs 10K’s gun, which leads to another new character being introduced, Red. She’s the The Crow Kid’s adopted older sister and has an awesome war club.

Red

The team is still hesitant to help, but they are low on supplies and that drives their decision to get involved, even if they don’t really want to. Red leads them to her survivor’s compound and we see 10K crushing on Red, even after she tells him she’s wearing red to scare away men, and not the undead.

Later that day The Man shows up again, and he wants Dr. Teller, which leads to the classic “I am Spartacus” response as all the survivors claim to be Dr. Teller

After The Man leaves once more, 10K and Red head out to scout around, and bump into Doc and Addy, which leads Doc to give 10K some advice to “be careful”.

As 10K is trying to get close to Red, Warren, Doc, and Addy are planning their defenses.

We then see what Dr. Teller might have been working on. Murphy is hearing the Zombie whispers again, which leads him into the research building where he finds strange zombies coated in blue who beg him for mercy.

Begging For Mercy

Dr. Teller catches Murphy which leads to a bit of the truth coming out. Dr. Teller has been keeping his wife and other infected inside the building, unable to give them mercy, unable to let them free for fear the fungus they were working on could escape into the world.

Out on the plains, 10K is teaching Crow Kid how to use a sling shot, which is also getting him points with Red, who is very maternal towards the kid.

Team Murphy thinks they have a plan, but Warren is the first to go down, tricked into attacking a Zombie wearing The Man’s coat, which leads to her capture.

When The Man and his team arrive at the research center, Team Murphy is there to meet them, but The Man isn’t just rolling in guns hot, he’s got a truck load of badness to unleash if Dr. Teller isn’t handed over.

There is a brief moment of negotiation as The Man tries to put Warren on the phone to prove she’s alive but Kid Crow has found her and helped her escape before she can be used as a bargaining chip.

With nothing left to bargain with, The Man unleashes his Zombie Horde which kicks off a very cool siege battle.

Siege Wall

The team takes care of the first wave, but The Man has armored Zombies, and his “Kraken” horde doesn’t go down quite so easily, event after taking a direct hit from an improvised mortar.

The research facility survivors fall back into the building with the fungus infected staffers. The fungi Zombies can talk to Murphy, and with his ability to communicate with them, the fungi Zombies form the last line of defense.

It almost works. Dr. Teller is forced to give his gravely wounded fungi wife mercy just before The Man blows a hole in the wall and takes Dr. Teller by force. He is after all The Man.

The Man In His Homemade Decontamination Suit

With the Dr. taken Team Murphy flees the building. None of the townspeople survived.

We then see a helicopter flying away with The Man’s already captured targets as the man is putting on his glasses and starting his car, preparing to start his next hunt. We can’t see whos name and picture were in the envelope, but I’m sure its not going to turn out to be good for Team Murphy.

We then see the heartbreaking ending of Crow Kid’s story as 10K comes back, covered in blood, forced to tell Red that her adopted little brother didn’t make it. Red goes into a rage and attacks a massive horde before 10K can stop her, throwing her life away in a moment of blind rage.

We then cut to Zona and the people relaxing by the pool. They have the scientists, but we don’t know why…yet.

The episode ends with the crows surrounding Crow Kid, attending him one last time.

Crow Kid Funeral

No Mercy was full of action and excitement, and had some excellently done zombie hordes, complete with a siege fight, which is why No Mercy scored a 90/100, setting a high bar for the rest of the season.
