Bad Gun Handling – Ears

Eyes, Ears, and appropriate clothing should always be worn while shooting.

She shoots, hurts her eardrum, and then sweeps the ground, and maybe her foot. (It is hard to tell.) What goes from bad could have easily gone to worse.

Whoever handed that shotgun to her may have seriously hurt her hearing, and put her at risk for losing a few toes as well.

ZOMBIE MOVIES – Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)

I was so excited to see Zombieland: Double Tap. The first Zombieland movie is one of my all time favorite movies, and I usually watch it at least once a year, more if I am on a lot of planes for work. I bought my tickets the moment I was able to early in the week (thinking it would sell out quickly) and arrived with bated breath.

The movie opens with a bit of nostalgia with Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) giving a voice over while explaining how the world has changed since the last time we saw him. The zombies have evolved, and the survivors have to fight harder to stay alive.

Zombieland: Double Tap is a good movie. It is funny and has several good action sequences. It suffers from having to try and live up to the first movie though. What I mean by that is if it were a stand alone, first movie, I probably would have given it a 93/100, however, having to live up to, and thus be compared to the first movie, costs it 10 points. An 83/100 is a good movie, its just not the epic movie the first one was.

I put that above so if you want to go see it and make up your own mind you can, before we get to spoilers. Be warned, I’m going to give spoilers now. Stop reading if you don’t want to know details before seeing Zombieland: Double Tap.

So what cost Double Tap points? The love story between Wichita and Columbus and the way it played out. They got in a rut since the last movie, and she decides to do exactly what she did in the first movie, and run. It felt weak to me. Then add in the cute but annoying Madesin (Zoey Deutch) and somehow Wichita is allowed to be a pain when Columbus bangs the only other girl he doesn’t consider family after she disappears for a month? The little love triangle was annoying to me and felt like weak writing.

The other thing I found really hard to enjoy was the jump in age for Little Rock. In the last movie she was a cute kid, and please, Abigail Breslin, forgive me if your reading this. You are a sweet beautiful young lady, but seeing you in my mind as that pre teen, and then now as a girl who wants to smoke pot and have a boyfriend was hard for me to enjoy. My brain was expecting that sassy pre teen, and it made it hard for me to watch your scenes, because I kept having to remind myself that you grew up. Maybe if there had been a movie in the middle and the jump was smaller it wouldn’t twist my mind up so much.

The last thing that I thought took away from the movie was the way the Babylon commune didn’t believe in guns and how that forced a non gun based finale – which I felt was just a little silly.

Woody, Jesse, Abigail, and Emma, please don’t let an 83/100 make you think I didn’t enjoy the movie. I did, and you guys are awesome. Now go start making Zombieland 3!!!!

ZOMBIE MOVIES – Within the Woods of Undead County (2016)

Within the Woods of Undead County follows the classic zombie movie rules, which is something I actually like. The main character, Jocelyn, is at home when she realizes something isn’t quite right. Her friend bangs on the door, kicking off the zombie fun.

The town is being overrun, and the only chance at surviving is to flee to the countryside of Pennsylvania. The movie is shot in a grainy style which I think is paying homage to some of Jay Romero’s original works. It has the old film feel to it.

Is the movie any good?

I guess it all depends on how much you expect from it. Within the Woods of Undead County feels like a well funded college student film created by a few good old boys from Pennsylvania. It’s not ground breaking, but its not horrible. It’s watchable, but not a movie you’ll ever watch twice, which earns Within the Woods of Undead County a 49 out of 100.

One fact I did find interesting was that they had a difficult time finding a female lade, so Gabriella Harry, who was supposed to be a producer, stepped up to play the female lead. Gabriella, if your out there, did you think about cutting the opening scene where your getting out of bed? It was tasteful, but it felt like you were hesitant and uncomfortable putting on pants on film.

Bad Gun Handling – Shooting ready

I have no idea who handed this fellow that shotgun, or exactly what happened here, but from my own experience at the range, I’ve seen people load up guns that look like museum pieces, or guns that have clearly not been well maintained, and I always move over a few stalls because I don’t want to be next to that guy when it blows up.

Your hands, fingers, eyes, and your life aren’t worth risking it.

If the weapon looks less than 100%, or is over a decade old, I’ll pass unless the gun’s been in my gun safe and maintained the whole time.
