Resident Evil: Afterlife is the fourth installment of the Resident Evil series and takes up where the last movie ends off.
Alice, played by the amazing Milla Jovovich, is back, which is awesome, but the first twenty or so minutes of this movie is aimed (I think) at tying off the end of the last movie. At the end of Extinction (2007), Alice has found her clones in pods, and promises Umbrella she is coming. So to deal with the multiplicity issue, Alice attacks the main Umbrella compound in Tokyo, which ends (spoiler alert) with the Umbrella boss nuking the base as he flees.
Viola, the army of Alice’s is taken care of.
I would have dealt with it as a one liner, or just said the clones are doing their thing, or ignored it completely. The movie really starts when Alice and Claire are flying over the city, looking for other survivors, and they see survivors on top of a building.
For me, I would have started the movie there, and then extended the zombie siege scenes.
The good news is that the fourth installment was better than the 3rd, but still a let down when compared to the first two movies, earning a 70/100, just making it into the “Worth Your Time” category.
