I wasn’t really expecting Solar Impact to be a Zombie Movie. I honestly thought with a name like Solar Impact that it was some other natural disaster type movie. Whoever named this movie did a really crappy job. The name doesn’t really tell you what to expect, and even the cover art is misleading! Do you see a Zombie on that cover?
The concept is simple, and in my opinion stolen from a movie that did it much better, Night of the Comet, which scored an 85/100. Don’t argue with me over if it was a comet or the sun’s radiation – this movie is clearly stealing its origin story from Night of the Comet.
That is not always a bad thing – its just that it really does set the bar in terms of comparisons.
Overall, it has good production values overall, and the acting and dialogue was well done, but some of the CGI was a bit amateurish:
From about fifteen minutes in the movie follows the classic run, hide, get found by Zombies, and then repeat. There are some decent Zombie attack scenes, but I hate the shaky cam style of shooting that the movie used. I feel like it was used to camouflage some of the movie’s other failings.

I like endings. I hate the open ended crap that leaves you guessing. It usually leaves me feeling that the writers didn’t want to think of an ending that was even halfway decent. Sure, other movies end with Zombies all around, but that just makes how this ended even worse. It’s not even disappointingly original.

Did they live? Did they die? Was it the Zombies? Was it the army? Too many possible endings. It just felt so lazy to me, which is why I’m giving Solar Impact a 25/100.
