Z Nation Season 3, Episode 9

Heart of Darkness opens with Citizen Z and Kaya back on the air, calling out to anyone, everyone. But especially the Operation Bite Mark team. As Kaya in the Skya is speaking, her broadcast is interrupted. Overpowered by a stronger signal. Murphy has just gone on the air, announcing he has the Zombie vaccine.

Radio Free Murphy

As Murphy is putting out his message Warren sneaks into Murphytown. She tries to snatch him while he’s vulnerable (pooping) but is thwarted by Zombies. The miss forces Warren to realize she needs help. No matter where it might come from. Regardless of what Hector advises, Warren is going to try and get some questionable help. She wants to get the imposter EScorpion and his Red Hand band to help them.

The Red Hand

As Team Warren is looking for the Red Hand they encounter a car full of car thieves the Red Hand “punished” before running into Hopper. Hopper is willing to take them to the Red Hand. He says he doesn’t work for them, he’s just their drug dealer, but he seems very sketchy to me.

Hopper leads Warren, Hector, and Dr. Sun Mei into the sewers under Seattle. As they walk deeper into the darkness they hear what they think are rats. But when they shine their lights on the walls they see its Zombie Hands, still crawling about. Maybe searching for their bodies.

Handy Hands

As Team Warren delves deeper into Seattle’s underground, Murphy is trying to bribe 10K with more vaccine, claiming it will free 10K from his control. 10K refuses, not willing to give up Warren. 10K is led away to do manual labor as punishment. Shortly after, Citizen Z tries to reach out to Murphy, having tracked him down because of his broadcast. Murphy doesn’t want anything to do with Operation Bite Mark.

The Seattle Underground

In Seattle’s underground, we get a taste of how crazy the Red Hand is. They’ve rigged up barbed wire and some electric to put the “Guilty” to death. At least whomever the Red Hand says are guilty. We then get to meet the new EScorpion.

The EScorpion Imposter

Javier Vasquez, the DEA agent whose wife and child were killed by Hector, the real EScorpion, has apparently lost his mind. He appears to think he really is EScorpion.

It seems like Warren might be reaching Javier but once she says his name he get’s pissed. He has her thrown into the lockup like Hector and Dr. Sun Mei.

Things take a strange turn after Warren gets put in the same cell as Hector. He chokes her out and disappears. Why did he choke her out if he could escape?

When Javier has Warren and Dr. Sun Mei brought to him Hector attacks, trying to take out Javier. Hector ends up being subdued by Red Hand men, which gives Hector the chance to remind Javier who both of them are. With the pain of his wife and child’s death thrown up in his face by Hector, Javier has his men let Hector loose so he can kill him in a “fair” fight.

Hector get’s stabbed multiple times before Warren steps in, putting a machete through Javier before taking his head, putting him out of his misery. The king is dead, long live the king. With Javier/EScorpion dead, the Read Hand apparently falls into Warren’s control. Or at least it looks that way by the trucks we see rolling out, presumably to go after warren.

The end of the episode has two major revelations. The first is that Doc and Addy have found Lucy, and she looks older than she should be.

Lucy

We see one of Lucy’s warders shoot a double barrel before the scene cuts back to Hectors body on the floor. Which leads us to the final revelation of the episode as his eyes open, tinged with yellow.

Heart of Darkness Scoring

Heart of Darkness scored a 70/100, mainly due to its lack of any significant Zombie violence.

Z Nation Season 3, Episode 7

Welcome to Murphytown kicks off with a violent interlude. The Man takes out a zombie with what looks like an oversized boomerang before cutting off the zombie’s arm.

Immediately after, we see a pack of Zombie Children being used to run down a haggard looking man. The kids literally chase the man up a tree.

Treed By The Zombie Kids

The guy’s fate is sealed. Without a lot of choices he is forced to join Murphy and his crew. It is time to get Murphytown fully online. As Murphy’s men are vaccinating new members, The Man can be seen sneaking into camp.

Spoilers Below

While Murphy is building his new society Doc and 10K are working their way down the highway. At least until they are lucky enough to bump into Team Warren.

Doc Brining 10K Home

With Team Warren reunited, 10K gives them the news that Murphy is building a following and effectively making other survivors into his slaves by biting or injecting them with the Murphy Vaccine.

Car Thieves Pay With Their Lives

As Team Warren moves towards Murphytown they discover an interesting gas station/boat dock. There are multiple dead zombies about and an interesting sign. Someone is still claiming to be El Scorpion.

While 10K is fighting off Murphy’s mind control and the team is trying to figure out what is in Murphy’s booster shots, Citizen Z and his new Eskimo family have made their way back to Camp Northern Light with the hopes of bringing it back online now that he has some help.

The Man Fakes It

Meanwhile Murphy has recognized The Man and had him brought to him. I guess to make sure the wound is real, Murphy gets his finger into the wound.

The Man Getting Murphied

The Man tells Murphy he’s not working for his old bosses, and just wants to be a part of whatever Murphy is building. When challenged on his loyalties, Murphy tells The Man he needs fresh brains – for his research.

Brains

The man goes one step further by eating the brains after Murphy commands him to do so. Murphy now has a professional to acquire brains for snacking on.

After The Man leaves Murphy asks his lieutenant if he’s sure The Man got the vaccine. As Murphy is being assured The Man got the vaccine we see how The Man actually faked it. The flashback starts with The Man using a Zombie arm and jacket to fake getting the vaccine. We then cut back to the current timeline to watch as The Man barfs up the brains he just ate.

Brains!

As Team Warren splits up to take care of Murphy and his daughter, we see The Man luring Murphy into a false sense of security by delivering on his promise of bringing brains. As Murphy is chowing down The Man makes his move, taking Murphy captive at gunpoint.

Brains, It’s What’s For Dinner

At least until Murphy’s blends save him.

As Addy and Doc are driving they get serenaded by Kaya as she kicks butt in a Zombie Apocalypse themed rap. You go Kaya.

Welcome to Murphytown ends with Team Warren watching as the lights come on in Murphytown, realizing that they might have bitten off more than they can chew.

The Lights Coming On In Murphytown

The very last thing we see is Murphy going back into his thrown room to find The Man has removed his own hand to escape his bonds.

I enjoyed the story progression, and loved Kaya’s rap, which was one of the high points of Welcome to Murphytown, but I have to take some points off for not having a lot of Zombies being given mercy.

Welcome to Murphytown Scoring

Welcome to Murphytown scored a 67/100. It’s perfect for a Rainy Day as its more of a storyline progression than Zombie driven episode.

Z Nation Season 3, Episode 6

Doc Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest opens with Doc wandering around the woods. He’s unable to find Team Warren after taking a potty break. As he looks for his friends he gets bashed over the head by Elvis and wakes up in a straight jacket. Welcome to the Serenity Falls Institution for the Criminally Insane.

Doc or Doctor?

The head nurse wants to make sure Doc is a real Doc. She heard him say his name while complaining out in the woods. After Doc passes the test of diagnosing the other hospital patients, the nurse lets Doc out of his straight jacket so he can help her with another new guest she’s got locked up. The other new guest keeps talking about blue men and a mission to planet Zona.

Doc has found 10K, but 10K doesn’t look like he’s in good shape. He appears to be suffering from Murphy withdrawal? Bad news for 10K, the nurse wants to give him a lobotomy to help calm him down.

When 10K starts to have seizures the nurse wants to do and emergency lobotomy. Doc challenges decision and wants to try meds first. This leads to Doc and Elvis going on a mission into the Zombie controlled area of the hospital to get to the pharmacy.

Pharmacy Mission

Elvis takes out the first Zombie and Doc takes out the second by plugging his shock treatment helmet into a light fixture.

Sparky

Doc and Elvis just barely make it out of the psyche ward as the nurse is prepping 10K for his lobotomy. When Doc makes it to the surgical suit the nurse is covered in blood.

He’s A Bleeder

Lucky for 10K, she was practicing on another patient first. Doc is able to convince the nurse that he’ll take care of 10K. Thanks to Doc’s pharmaceutical skills 10K wakes up, at least long enough to confirm he can communicate again. Afterwards Doc uses his pharmacy knowledge to treat the rest of the patients. The other patients are getting real meds for the first time in ages.

The good vibes don’t last long. When Doc and 10K try to make their escape they are caught. Both of them end up in straight jackets again. Things are about to go very badly for Doc when the lobotomy test subject saves the day.

As Doc leads the surviving patients through the psyche ward to reach the hospital bus, the Zombies at the front of the hospital have made it through the make shift barricade. With a small horde approaching the psyche patients drive away, leaving Doc and 10K behind.

As Doc is trying to move 10K he finds the bite, and realizes exactly what is wrong with 10K.

Doc Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest ends with Doc leading 10K to safety as the sun sets. Thankfully 10k is in good hands with Doc.

Fleeing

Doc Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest Scoring

Doc Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest scored a 73/100. The insane asylum was fun and had some amusing scenes but I tend to like the episodes with a bit more violence in them.

Z Nation Season 3, Episode 5

Little Red and the Wolfz begins with 10K. After jumping into the river to escape Murphy’s Minions, he’s been carried downstream, away from his pursuers. Even wounded and cold, 10K was able to keep his grip on the bag of Zombie Cure.

10K Down – Stream

Tasty Brains

While 10K is struggling to survive out on the river bank we cut over to Murphy. Murphy is sad and maudlin at the loss of Dr. Merch. He wishes he understood why she did it. As he’s walking around her corpse, he is pulled in by the look and smell of her delicious brains.

Temptation

Murphy is resisting but the more he ponders why she did it the more agitated he becomes.

10K might have escaped Murphy’s compound, but he’s bleeding. He’s also out in the wild and still has one of Murphy’s henchmen on his trail. 10K flees into the water, climbing onto what’s left of a wooden picnic table to drift downstream. He might be wounded, but when he comes across a man on a motorcycle, he still has enough in him to steal the bike and race away. This lead2 to a bit of motorcycle handgun practice. (Highly dangerous – don’t try it.) He makes it to a nearby farm before getting knocked off the bike by a drag line. At least he had a good dream while he was out cold, imagining Red kissing him.

Dreaming Of Red

Chained to a Car

When 10K wakes up he’s not in quite as happy a place. He’s been chained to a car and there are multiple Zombies approaching. He takes down several, but his wound is slowing him down and sapping his strength. Which leads to an awesome Zombie Kill.

Hubcap of Death

10K is kicking butt, but he’s getting tired, and the Zombies just keep coming. It’s looking bad for 10K until Murphy’s henchman shows up and saves him just in time. He doesn’t really care about 10K. The henchman wants to get back the bag 10k stole because he knows Murphy needs it. 10K doesn’t want to go back to being a Murphy puppet however. 10k takes the first chance he gets to bash his captor in the face with a rock and make a run for it. He doesn’t get far however before he’s caught and given a bit of pain in return for his efforts.

Out on the back roads we see the couple who stole the bike from 10K. There is a pack of something in the woods. Something that is fast, and finds people delicious.

Murphy’s Compound

Back at the compound Murphy realizes he’s got a problem. He looks at his arm and realizes he has patches of pale, healthy, human flesh. He needs to make more Zombie booster. That’s just about when he picks up a fork and looks over at Dr. Merch’s lovely brains. They are just waiting to be eaten.

10K and his captor track down the motorbike in hopes of finding the bag of Zombie Meds. Before they can find it they are chased off by whatever else is in the woods with them. 10K uses the brief moment of confusion to fake his death. As soon as he gets his chance runs, following his imaginary Red. She urges him to run, at least at first. She ends up telling him he has to go back and save 5K.

This leads to a nice, if choppy fight scene. 10K takes down multiple beasties, thinking he is saving 5K. It is really the woman who stole the bike, and the meds, from him. It’s too late to save her, but he does recover the bag of meds. Feeling Murphy’s pull on him, 10K takes another shot and falls into another dream. He’s lost in happy daydreams of Red and 5K.

10K’s Happy Place

Little Red and the Wolfz ends with Murphy chowing down on Dr. Merch’s brains, now able to read her journal and understand it. Murphy’s henchman comes back and tells Murphy that 10K is dead, but Murphy doesn’t believe it. He knows that 10K is a tough kid, and if he escaped, that means 10K will be heading for Warren, and then coming for him. Murphy’s final command of the episode is to tell his team to get ready for an attack.

Little Red and the Wolfz Scoring

Little Red and the Wolfz was a tough episode to rate. I loved all the Zombie violence, but the Zombie Meds stuff was a little confusing. The shot is a booster for Murphy but it saves 10K from Murphy’s powers? Maybe I’m just missing something. Overall it was still a fun, action packed episode and scored a 79/100.

Z Nation Season 3, Episode 4

Escorpion and the Red Hand finds themselves greeted by disemboweled Zombies, their bodies hanging off an overpass in warning.

Shocked

The ropes holding the Zombies up are cut just as Team Warren is staring up at the Zombies. Don’t worry, it gave us an awesome Zombie Kill.

Zombie Slice – O – Matic

With the Zombies taken care of Team Warren is ambushed. The attackers mistake Team Warren for the “Red Hand” gang who came into town and murdered people. The newcomers are going to get get revenge on the “Red Hand” and their leader Escorpion. Only Hector is right there with Warren, so who is pretending to be him?

Back in Spokane Murphy has expanded his compound and his followers, but at a cost. Murphy is weak from giving blood so his doctor can try and find a cure, and he’s impatient. As Murphy is leaving in a huff his doctor gives 10K the cure. 10k immediately drops, foaming at the mouth.

10K With A Minor Reaction To The “Cure”

Lucky for 10K, the doctor was just breaking Murphy’s hold over him, and wants 10K to help her escape.

While 10K is suffering, Team Warren is on the hunt for the “Red Hand”. While Warren and Hector are being threated that Escorpion is going to kill them by a wounded “Red Hand” soldier, Addy is in pain, an infected tooth poisoning her blood. Dr. Sun Mei wants to pull her teeth, but Addy isn’t happy about potentially having a gap in her smile.

After questioning their wounded “Red Hand” soldier Warren realizes that the “Red Hand” is overly motivated to kill the other group of survivors and we find out from the prisoner that the other group of survivors killed members of the “Red Hand” in order to steal food.

While Warren & Hector are fighting in the front of the warehouse, Dr. Sun Mei and Doc are playing emergency dentist, holding Addy down to pull her infected tooth.

Emergency Dental Extraction

I have to be honest, this is one of my worst fears in the Apocalypse. I can take a lot of pain, but I hate having dental issues, and the thought of having to do novice dentistry just sends s chill down my spine.

While Addy is being worked on, the “Red Hand” is sending bomb Zombies at the front door. Warren is able to distract one, but the second puts a huge hole in the building and sends Warren flying to the floor, knocked unconscious as a small horde comes rolling in. Warren and Hector barely survive the fight, but in the process one of the other survivors sees the tattoo on Hector’s arm and realizes who he is.

Back at Murphy’s compound 10K is ready to make his escape but when he goes back for the doctor, he finds that Murphy has found them out. 10K does the only thing he can do, which is jump out a window and run. 10K escapes as Murphy and his doctor vaccinate Murphy’s people.

With the survivors thinking that Hector is the acting leader of the “Red Hand” they attack, and lose. For some reason the “Red Hand” then decides to move on, leaving Team Warren to leave.

Escorpion and the Red Hand ends with Dr. Merch ignoring Murphy’s commands and escaping the only way she has left, by walking into the Zombie moat and putting a scalpel in her neck.

Dr. Merch Bites It (Or Vice Versa)

Escorpion and the Red Hand Score

Escorpion and the Red Hand was an interesting episode but it had some plot holes with the way the “Red Hand” just up and leaves after they have essentially won. Why do that? Which is why Escorpion and the Red Hand scored a 70/100.

Z Nation Season 3, Episode 3

Murphy’s Miracle picks up right where A New Mission left off. Team Murphy is on the road, and get stuck behind the only other car in a thousand miles. Murphy is ticked at first, at least until he sees why the other vehicle is moving so slow. There is a sick kid who is about to turn in the other car. What does Murphy do? I guess he saves her? Is it really saving her if she ends up like Cassandra?

Miracle Or Murder

While Murphy is playing god, Team Warren thinks they are hot on his tracks. At least until they realize that Murphy outsmarted them. Murphy was lead them on a wild goose chase by hiding Warren’s tracker on a Zombie. As Team Warren is looking for a vehicle they come across a food truck that is surrounded by Zombies. Oddly, the town’s mailman is inside and doesn’t want the Zombies hurt.

Surrounded

The Artic

Up in the arctic Kaya is pepping Citizen Z up, trying to get him to understand how important he is. His transmitter is dead, and without it he’s just Simon, but Kaya doesn’t buy it. People need to hear the voice of hope, to know that everything isn’t lost. I love Kaya’s attitude! A little bit later Kaya reveals her softer side. Shes breaks down when Citizen Z tells her there is no one left to hear him anyway. They are just about to smooch when the radio distracts them. A little bit later at dinner Citizen Z discovers that Kaya and her family are almost out of food. Lucky for them, Citizen Z knows where there is more food.

While Team Murphy is exploring Spokane, Team Warren is helping the Postman in exchange for gas and supplies. As they are helping him they realize something is very odd in town. The Zombies in town are very focused on the Postman, and it doesn’t seem natural. They corner the Postman, thinking maybe he’s been bit by Murphy or has some other power. They go so far as to make sure he’s not doing, well, other things, with the undead.

Sexual Contact

The Postman

With the heat on, The Postman just wants Team Warren gone, so he agrees to take them into the basement shelter to get supplies. There are multiple dead mail carriers who’ve been shot in the head. That is just about when the Postman opens a door, leaving Team Warren to fight for their lives in the near dark. This leads to what I think is the Best Zombie Kill of the episode. Hector goes to town with a Cancelled stamp.

Cancelled

When the fighting is done Team Warren finds the real Postmaster among the dead zombies, confirming their suspicions that something wasn’t right.

While Warren, Doc, Addy, and Hector are locked in the basement the Postman goes back upstairs and takes Dr. Sun Mei prisoner at gunpoint, leading her to his torture dungeon.

Torture Dungeon

Once in the Dungeon, the Postman reveals his true nature. He killed his townsfolk because he was angry at how they treated him, and was jealous of their lives. The townspeople aren’t following him because he feeds them, or love him. They are following him because he was the last thing they say before dying.

Dr. Sun Mei is able to save herself long enough to open the dungeon door so the Zombie townspeople can take their revenge.

Murphy’s Miracle ends with Murphy sitting on his self proclaimed throne as 10K struggles with being under Murphy’s influence when the family from the opening scenes shows up, wanting to thank Murphy for saving their daughter, who is not longer scared.

It’s Good To Be King

Not only do they want to thank him, but the husband wants Murphy to bite his wife. Murphy is smiling as Murphy’s Miracle comes to an end.

Murphy’s Miracle Score

Murphy’s Miracle scored an 80/100. I really liked the twist with the postman and loved the progression of Citizen Z’s story, which is why this episode is Worth Your Time.

Z Nation Season 3, Episode 2

A New Mission begins with Citizen Z, nearly frozen to death, stranded out in the snow in the far north. We then see someone put him on a sled and begin to pull him away.

Citizen Z On The Ice

We then cut over to Warren just as Murphy is approaching from the sub. We have apparently fallen back in time from Episode 1. A group Asian special forces have Warren, Doc, Addy, and Escorpion. Murphy has decided to set out on his own.

Ambush

Murphy, 10K and Murphy’s Zombie Slaves don’t make it far before two of their four wheelers blow tires. This leads to an attack by a group of very barbarian like newcomers. Murphy tries to stop them, but they aren’t Zombies, and his power doesn’t hold sway over them.

Savages

The special forces have air support, including an air drop of supplies. Unfortunately, everyone for miles around can see the supplies falling from the sky. This results in a mad rush to get to the supplies first.

Back in the north Citizen Z is slowly coming to, waking up next to a young lady. He doesn’t know where he is, but Pup is okay and he’s warm. That seems like a good reason to lie back down and rest. In the end it does make sense. If they wanted to harm him, he wouldn’t be waking up at all.

Citizen Z Got Lucky

Back on the race to the supplies, the special forces holding Team Warren show just how much firepower they have. A small group of Zombies approach, and is rapidly taken out by a laser grenade.

Laser Grenade

The special forces, being overly confident, almost fall pray to a Zombie straggler. Luckily for them, Warren and Escorpion take care of the Zombie even though they are in handcuffs. Warren and Escorpion get their zip tied cut off as a reward.

Back over on the Team Murphy side 10K is trying to break away from whatever hold Murphy has on him. As 10k struggles they hear something approaching. A massive ball of Zombies is rolling along, tearing into itself as the starving Zombies eat each other.

Zombie Ball

Out on the hunt for the air drop, the special forces have decided to give Team Warren their weapons back, with some small modifications. Addy gets a new Z-Whacker and this time its electrified.

Shockingly Nice Modifications

Kaya

Back in the cold North Citizen Z has woken up, literally, on every front, and we get introduced to Kaya. Kaya is a huge fan of Citizen Z. Kaya has a flat affect, but I love the way she approaches life, and her affection that is already apparent for Citizen Z.

Back on the hunt for the supply drop the special forces go down after one poorly timed laser grenade. A zombie throws the laser grenade back and all but one soldier gets their heads popped off. The survivor is bleeding though, and he doesn’t last long when the smell brings a hungry Zombie his way. The mission has been a total bust. The female leader of the special forces is still alive, but her team is dead, and the supplies have been destroyed.

Warren takes control the situation. Their new mission is to get Murphy, and help save the world. Because no one else is going to do it. This is just about when Murphy rolls up in an armored vehicle. Murphy wants Warren to join his mission, and he has no desire to save anyone.

As Team Warren is struggling with their next step to bring Murphy back into their fold, Citizen Z is watching the northern lights with Kaya.

The episode ends with The man showing the name on his paper, and no surprises here, he’s after Murphy.

A New Mission Score

A New Mission had some great scenes and I loved seeing Citizen Z made it after nearly freezing to death. Overall I’m giving A New Mission  a 77/100, making it Worth Your Time.

Z Nation Season 3, Episode 1

No Mercy kicks off Season 3 of Z Nation with the introduction of a new character. “The Man” has come to town. He works for some very serious people, and he’ll do whatever it takes to find his target, Dr. Teller.

The Man

The Man is pretty certain he knows Dr. Teller is in the survivor’s compound. Worse, he is willing to take a kid hostage to get what he wants. The kid manages to escape The Man and meets up with Team Murphy in the process.

This leads an an awesome opening montage with lots of Zombies receiving Mercy. My two favorites were 10K’s double kill:

One Shot, Two Kills

Followed up by Doc’s hammers of mercy:

Red

After Team Murphy kicks some Zombie *ss the kid asks them for help. They balk, leading the kid to grab 10K’s gun. This leads to another new character being introduced, Red. She’s the The Crow Kid’s adopted older sister and has an awesome war club.

Red

The team is still hesitant to help, but they are low on supplies and that drives their decision. They have to get involved to get supplies, even if they don’t really want to. Red leads them to her survivor’s compound and we see 10K crushing on Red. She tells him she’s wearing red to scare away men, and not the undead. It doesn’t bother 10K at all.

Later that day The Man shows up again, and he wants Dr. Teller. This leads to the classic “I am Spartacus” response as all the survivors claim to be Dr. Teller

After The Man leaves once more, 10K and Red head out to scout around, and bump into Doc and Addy. Doc gives 10K some advice to “be careful”.

As 10K is trying to get close to Red, Warren, Doc, and Addy are planning their defenses.

We then see what Dr. Teller might have been working on. Murphy is hearing the Zombie whispers again, which leads him into the research building where he finds strange zombies coated in blue who beg him for mercy.

Begging For Mercy

Dr. Teller catches Murphy which leads to a bit of the truth coming out. Dr. Teller has been keeping his wife and other infected inside the building. He’s unable to give them mercy. He’s also unable to let them free for fear the fungus they were working on could escape into the world.

Slingshot

Out on the plains, 10K is teaching Crow Kid how to use a sling shot. This earns 10K points with Red, who is very maternal towards the kid.

Team Murphy thinks they have a plan, but Warren is the first to go down, tricked into attacking a Zombie wearing The Man’s coat. This leads to her capture.

When The Man and his team arrive at the research center, Team Murphy is there to meet them, but The Man isn’t just rolling in guns, he’s got a truck load of badness to unleash if Dr. Teller isn’t handed over.

There is a brief moment of negotiation as The Man tries to put Warren on the phone to prove she’s alive but Kid Crow has found her and helped her escape before she can be used as a bargaining chip.

Siege

With nothing left to bargain with, The Man unleashes his Zombie Horde. This kicks off a very cool siege battle.

Siege Wall

The team takes care of the first wave, but The Man has armored Zombies, and his “Kraken” horde doesn’t go down quite so easily, event after taking a direct hit from an improvised mortar.

The research facility survivors fall back into the building with the fungus infected staffers. The fungi Zombies can talk to Murphy, and with his ability to communicate with them, the fungi Zombies form the last line of defense.

It almost works. Dr. Teller is forced to give his gravely wounded fungi wife mercy just before The Man blows a hole in the wall and takes Dr. Teller by force. He is after all The Man.

The Man In His Homemade Decontamination Suit

With the Dr. taken, Team Murphy flees the building. None of the townspeople survived.

We then see a helicopter flying away with The Man’s already captured targets. The Man is puts on his glasses and starts his car, preparing for his next hunt. We can’t see whos name and picture were in the envelope, but I’m sure its not going to turn out to be good for Team Murphy.

We then see the heartbreaking ending of Crow Kid’s story as 10K comes back, covered in blood, forced to tell Red that her adopted little brother didn’t make it. Red goes into a rage and attacks a massive horde before 10K can stop her. It appears she threw her life away in a moment of blind rage.

We then cut to Zona and the people relaxing by the pool. They have the scientists, but we don’t know why…yet.

The episode ends with the crows surrounding Crow Kid, attending him one last time.

Crow Kid Funeral

No Mercy Score

No Mercy was full of action and excitement, and had some excellently done zombie hordes, complete with a siege fight, which is why No Mercy scored a 90/100, setting a high bar for the rest of the season.

iZombie , Season 1, Episode 13

Blaine’s World begins with Blaine and Julien in a panic. They are trying to find the brains that Major stole. Blaine has already sold the brains for a lot of money. They need to find them.

Major Cold Spell

Julien has searched everywhere he can think of, but he can’t find the brains. Major’s not helping either, he’s not in a talking mood. He knows if he tells them he gave them to Liv to test, she will be in danger. He’d rather freeze to death than put Liv in danger.

While Major is freezing, Liv, Clive, and Ravi are at the MEs office. They’ve got Miss Giovanni on their table. Miss Giovanni didn’t survive the beat down. Liv does her thing, making a Giovanni sandwich.

As Liv is eating, Ravi has made more progress. Their second Zombie Rat has turned Normal Rat, but they only have one dose. Ravi doesn’t have enough ingredients to make more. As Liv and Ravi are discussing the cure, Liv get’s a vision. A lot of puzzle pieces fall into place.

Assassin Zombie had saved the video proof of Zombie life. When the kids hit him with their car, they took his wallet, and the memory card inside it. Now Max Rager Corp needs to cover their tracks. It doesn’t matter how many people they kill, or die from the Zombie Virus.

We then cut to the CEO of Max Rager, Vaughn Du Clark, recruiting a new chief scientist. The last one got a little too close to an angry and hungry Zombie.

As Vaughn Du Clark is ending his interview, Liv and Clive shows up. This is perfect timing as Max Rager’s new chief scientist wants to see a Zombie in action. He knows that Liv isn’t human.

Back in the freezer, Blaine promises Major that he’s going to keep him just cold enough to suffer. He won’t let Major die. Blaine wants to know where his Astronaut Brains are, and he’s willing to torture Major to get the information.

Out in the wild, Max Rager’s team has bought the thumb drive. The only surviving teen was smart enough to pay a hobo to watch his car though. It saves his life when he gets waved off a minute before his car goes boom!

Boom

The kids thinks he made it out with the bag of money but when he starts to paw through it, he finds out that he’s not the only smart one. The Max Rager agents have put a tracker in the cash.

Cash Tracker

So if they were going to blow up the car with the money, why not just put some explosives in the bag too?

As the surviving kid tries to flee, he’s picked up by the police and ends up in the police interrogation room with Liv and Clive. The kid wants a deal, to be tried as a minor, but Clive has other ideas. The kid can cooperate or they will let him go so he can take his chances on the street, and the kid is smart enough to know he’s dead once he leaves the police station.

When Ravi gets home he calls Liv because Major hasn’t come home. Liv decides she has to lie to Major about the brains he gave her. She tells him they are Monkey Brains, but by texting Major she lets Blaine know exactly where his products are. Liv does the only thing she can, and agrees to exchange Major for the brains.

Liv, being the trusting soul that she is, hands over the brains before she confirms that they actually gave her Major. While Liv is being tricked, Major is setting a blaze in the freezer with the lighter he found on the dead kid, and affects an escape.

This gives him enough time to go back to his vehicle and get strapped, which includes a grenade. Major is in the mood to even a few scores.

Majorly Pissed Off

This leads to Major kicking some ass. Blaine has just lost four employees, and returns with Julien just as Major is completing his work on the first four. Julien ends up in the freezer with a grenade, but before Major can take care of Blaine, he gets a knife to get guts.

Blaine leaves Major to bleed out when Liv walks into the front of the Butcher Shop and puts a bullet in Blaine, thinking that Major is already dead. Blaine is rubbing his power into Liv’s nose when she stabs him with the dose of the cure she was going to give herself.

Human Again

Blaine flees, human again, while Liv looks at Major who is about to die, and does the only thing she can think of to save him, and scratches him.

Liv takes Major back to her apartment and tries to explain why she did what she did. Major isn’t exactly happy that she turned him. Liv is hoping they can be together as they are both Zombies, but Major is hurt and angry. Liv has done nothing but lie to him, and even allowed let him admit himself to a Psyche ward rather than tell him the truth.

While Liv is getting her soul crushed, Suzuki has realized that without the butcher shop he doesn’t have a source of food, and blows himself, and the shop up just as Liv’s brother is arriving for his first day of work.

After the police show up Clive realizes that everything isn’t quite what it seems, and even though Suzuki set it up to look like he went down with a fight, Clive has some intuition that Major was involved.

Blaine’s World ends on a heartbreaking note. Liv’s brother is in surgery with multiple shrapnel wounds and lots of blood loss.

Brother Down

The doctors need blood, and Liv is a potential downer. The screen goes dark as Liv is telling her mother no, she can’t give her brother blood, but she also can’t tell them the real reason.

The Season 1 finale has some great action when Major goes on the attack and rapped up a lot of storylines in a very satisfactory manner. I’m going to give Blaine’s World an 80/100 making it Worth Your Time. If you have someone in your life who isn’t a zombie fan, but does like murder mystery shows, this is a must watch that you will both enjoy.

iZombie , Season 1, Episode 12

Dead Rat, Live Rat, Brown Rat, White Rat opens up with Liv’s would be assassin climbing out the water and stumbling up onto the road.

Why Did The Zombie Cross The Road

Confused from being turned, and wounded from the blades of the boat hitting him, the assassin stumbled onto the road and directly into the path of a group of young men and women who are driving a stolen car.

Zombie Road Kill – Kind Of

Zombie Assassin

Things go about as you would expect. The kids can’t report the accident because their victim is dead, so they bury him in the woods. Of course our Assassin isn’t dead, he’s just stunned, and he wakes up just in time to snag the cheerleader, Kimber, before she can escape.

A few weeks later Liv and Ravi get pulled in when Rufus the pooch finds a body part in the woods.

Rufus Has His Foot In HIs Mouth

Back in the MEs office Liv gets a punch in the gut when Ravi finds his Zombie survivor rat “Hope” dead in her cage. The possible cure isn’t quite as close as they thought it was.

With Kimber’s cheerleader brains on board, Liv has turned into a teen. Clive has pulled in one of the victims friends, and Liv totally bonds with her, getting her to spill and play a voicemail Kimber left for her. This leads Clive and Liv to the three surviving youths who hit the Assassin Zombie. The kids are in a band, and rent out a storage space to jam.

Back at the station Clive has watched the security footage from the storage facility, and figured out that the kids could have been in the stolen car they see leaving, leading them back to the storage unit.

Brains Pizza

Unfortunately, someone else has already been there, and there is another body. At least we get to see what Pizza with Brains looks like.

Brains With Pizza or Pizza With Brains

Back at home, Ravi asks Major for some dating advice, which leads to one of the best exchanges of the episode. Major’s humor and attitude are awesome, and I just love the way he thinks.

When Major leaves Ravi, he goes out to buy weapons, and ends up buying a grenade as well. What could go wrong?

With two members of the foursome involved with the motor vehicle accident with the Assassin Zombie, Miss Giovanni, the dark haired goth girl comes to the station. She is convinced she’s going to be next. The story she tells seems unbelievable, at least to Clive. How could they bury someone and have that person climb out of a grave?

Before Clive and Liv can track down the Assassin Zombie, he tracks down Liv, pissed that he ate is grandmother, and he blames Liv for making him whatever he is. Peyton is knocked out cold on the floor, and Assassin Zombie wants revenge.

A short, brutal battle ensues, and Liv wins, but there is a cost. Peyton wakes up as Liv is in full Zombie mode.

Peyton Learns The Truth

Liv comes clean, telling Peyton the full truth and it doesn’t appear that Peyton is taking it well. When Liv goes to get medical supplies for Peyton, Peyton flees.

The episode ends with lots of bad things going on.

Ravi’s weekend with Peyton has been screwed over by Liv’s revalation.

Miss Giovanni has been beat to a pulp.

And worst of all, Major has been captured by Team Blaine, and Blaine has just hired Liv’s little brother.

Major Issues

Dead Rat… Scoring

This was a fun episode that leaves us on a cliffhanger for the season finale. Dead Rat, Live Rat, Brown Rat, White Rat scored a 73/100, making it Worth Your Time.
