I consider it a red flag when a movie has its name changed between releases. This movie started out as Cannon Fodder and was later renamed as Battle Of The Undead for the U.S. release. That red flag is big, bright red, and waving energetically.

I have no idea if the original movie was in Hebrew, but I’m hoping some of the dialogue was lost in translation. There are long segments of dialogue that are just horribly insensitive at best, and outright racist at worst.

What? You want examples?

This was bad…..

But it go so much worse in just a few seconds…

And what the hell was this about?

Which really sucked, because if you took out a lot of the horrible, offensive dialogue, this would have been a decent low budget Zombie movie. The special effects are low budget, but there are lots of Zombies and a good bit of gore, which was actually really well done.

If you can ignore the offensive dialogue this is a Rainy Day Movie, but overall I can’t give it more than a 35/100, putting it at the bottom of the Rainy Day Movie scale because I kept saying WTF while watching it due to the dialogue.

I really liked how Forget Everything And Run, aka F.E.A.R. opens. A father and son are out in the woods. The father has set up a trap to teach the son how to shoot. The son isn’t able to make the shot. After the kid shoots and misses the dad is forced to save him. Afterward, the father explains that the Zombies hunt by sensing heat.

So did the kid set up the torches without the dad knowing? Was this a Zombie trap shooting range? It is not really clear…ever.

The film quality, acting, and special effects are all good, including the dialogue. Sometimes the details are overlooked in Zombie movies – but not here.

F.E.A.R. Scoring

So why did F.E.A.R score a 67/100? That makes this movie a Rainy Day Movie. So why? There just isn’t a whole lot here. The Zombies become a plot device versus being a real focus of the story. Then, once the house is attacked by other survivors, this movie is really about that. Making it worse, this movie covers almost every survival trope. Someone got bit, the “bad” guy survivors are also cannibals, and then of course the noble sacrifice.

Still, it is at the high end of the Rainy Day Movie scale, so let me know if you disagree with my score in the comments.

I was super excited to see Black Friday. What could be better than a shopping center surrounded by the infected? As a bonus, Bruce Campbell is in it! It sounds like a Thanksgiving treat doesn’t it? So now lets see how it holds up.

Honestly, I guess I was hoping for more of a traditional Zombie Movie and what I got was a lot more character development than needed, and the infected were more space alien than Zombie. I feel a little bit bad saying this, but a big part of my mental miss match was the fact that when I see Bruce Campbell I think of Army of Darkness. Sadly, this was nothing like Army of Darkness.

Black Friday Scoring

Overall it was watchable, but I’d save it for a Rainy Day as it only scored a 53/100. If you don’t go in expecting a traditional Zombie Movie with Bruce Campbell killing some undead, maybe you will like it more than I did.
