The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, Season 1, Episode 6

Coming Home opens with powerful imagery of WWII before cutting to Daryl in the pit. As usual, Daryl is kicking some Zombie Ass. The undead might be hopped up on go juice, but Daryl is a natural born fighter. His harsh upbringing has made him a survivor.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon

The episode has team Daryl fighting their way out of the Madam Genet’s stronghold. There is a ton of good action scenes, as well as phenomenal character development. Normal Reedus was born to play Daryl Dixon.

The episode ends on a double cliffhanger. And yes I spoil those surprises if you keep reading below the Spoilers section!

Coming Home Scoring

Coming Home is the final episode of the season. Honestly, that is its biggest sin. Otherwise it hit it out of the park and scores 100/100. Daryl Dixon ended the last two episodes with perfect scores! How I just have to hope that the show had enough viewership to start a franchise!

Overall Daryl Dixon Season 1 scored an 87/100 for the series, making it Worth Your Time!

Spoilers Below:

Coming Home has some awesome action scenes and mini storylines. The whole Quinn plot sees the greedy, self absorbed man do the right thing for the wrong reasons. Daryl, knowing the full truth, still honors Quinn’s sacrifice with Isabelle. The overall plot of the episode hits us with two major events at the end. Is Daryl going to stay in France or try to get back to the States? Or is god damn Carol going to come to find Daryl instead.

I hated Carol at times in the main series, but over time she became my second favorite character after Daryl. That says something about the writing doesn’t it?

The series ends with Daryl between Laurent and the ship that can start him on the way home. Back in the States Carol begins her hunt to find out what happened to Daryl. A double cliffhanger – but it was so well done.

The Good

  • When Daryl in the pit and tells Quinn he’s going going to die. They think they are about to fight each other, and Daryl plans on winning.
  • I loved how one of the Crazed Zombie tackles another Zombie. Whatever they infected the undead with – its not making them more stable – just more vicious.
  • Teamwork makes the dream work. Pop that Zombie head off!
Pop That Head Off!
  • Daryl might be a total bad ass but he is also very emotionally smart. After using Quinn as a weapon so he can escape, Daryl lets Isabella think that Quinn didn’t explicitly ask him to tell her. Which of course Quinn did, but he’s an ass. Of course Isabelle already knew that, and suspected Quinn’s real motives.
  • I love when the walkers just start coming out of the surroundings after laying dormant for a while. The scenes on the beaches of Normandy when Daryl wakes up a small horde was awesome!

The Bad

  • How many times is Daryl going to be separated from Laurent by a set of bars in this series? I think this was the 3rd time right?
  • When Codron catches up to Team Daryl at the broken car, it was just a little too perfect how Laurent’s comment made the man spare them all. Surely he would have popped Daryl at the very least for killing his brother?
  • How is Daryl able to resist Isabelle and the chemistry between them?

The Last Of Us Season 1, Episode 6

Kin is Episode 6 of The Last Of Us.

The Last of Us: Kin

Spoilers Below

I give detailed, blow by blow details as I review. If you want to skip the spoilers jump down to the Scoring!

If you have watched Kin let me know if you agree with my Scoring Below.

The Cabin (3 Months Later)

Joel and Ellie have taken Marlon, played by Graham Greene and his wife captive. They are lost in the woods and were hoping to get some help. Marlon and his wife tell Joel that anyone who goes west of the river doesn’t come back. As Joel leads Ellie outside he has some type of attack. He was about to pass out before he regains his composure.

Joel and Ellie find a secluded place along the river and rest for the night. Ellie sees Joel sipping from his Hip Flask and begs a sip. She still doesn’t like the taste of whiskey. I was so excited to see Joel’s Hip Flask because I have the same one. Its made by Valtcan and is totally awesome.

Whiskey

The River Of Death

For the second time Joel falls asleep and leaves Ellie at Risk. Thankfully this time she stood guard for him and they weren’t ambushed.

Joel and Ellie then watch the river from the high ground. Joel fires off a single shot but they don’t see anything moving. The two of them cross an old bridge as the background music grows ominous. As they walk they come upon an old power generation station. As the two are walking they are quickly surrounded by a group on horseback.

The newcomers have a dog that can smell the infected. Ellie backs away in fear as the dog approaches, at least until it tackles her gently to the ground and licks her face.

River of Death Base Camp

Joel and Ellie are taken to a large settlement. The survivors have a town. They are only a few hundred feet into the town when Joel sees Tommy and screams hi name. The brothers hug in relief as they are re-united.

As Joel and Ellie eat breakfast Tommy breaks some news. Maria MIller is now family. If she looks familiar, she is played by Rutina Wesley of True Blood fame.

Joel asks Tommy to help him get Ellie to the Firefly base but Tommy isn’t having it. Tommy doesn’t want to leave his new community or put it at risk. Maria is pregnant and Tommy doesn’t want to take any risks. Joel angrily tells Tommy that they will collect some supplies and be gone in the morning. As Joel walks outside two things happen. He leans against a post as if he’s lost his strength and then he sees a girl who looks like his dad daughter Sarah in front of him.

We then see Ellie reading about how a Menstrual Cup works. This is the second time we’ve seen Ellie with feminine hygiene products. Is the show just very female friendly or is there something coming up that deals with how her body works?

Afterwards Maria cuts Ellie’s hair as the two chat. Maria tells Ellie about Sarah before warning Ellie that Joel has done some very bad things in the past. Ellie tells her she knows that Joel is a killer – but Maria still warns her to be careful.

New Boots

While Ellie spends time with Maria, Joel tries to fix his boot. At least until Tommy comes in and gives him a new pair of boots. Tommy asks Joel why he’s with Ellie and Joel tells his brother the truth. Ellie is immune. The fear on Tommy’s face is real. He looks outside in the direction where Ellie is with Maria before demanding that Joel gives him the whole story.

Immune

Joel pours out his heart. He feels weak and afraid. He relives losing Sarah over and over in his sleep. Joel is afraid that he is going to let Ellie down as well. Joel begs Tommy to take Ellie. Tommy is the only one that Joel trusts.

Tommy promises to take Ellie out at dawn before parting ways with his brother.

Ellie’s Room

As soon as Joel enters Ellie’s room she confronts him. She heard Joel tell Tommy that he has to take her. Ellie tries to tell Joel she’s sorry about Sarah but Joel can barely stand to hear his daughters name. Ellie tells Joel that she’s lost people too. Everyone she’s ever known or trusted has died or let her down. Joel’s face is hard and cold as he tells Ellie that at dawn they are going their separate ways.

Departures

In the morning Tommy comes to collect Ellie. They had to the stables only to find Joel already saddling a horse. He tries to give Ellie a choice and tells her she would be better off with Tommy. Ellie disagrees and immediately picks Joel.

Joel and Ellie ride away into the frozen landscape as Tommy locks the town gate behind them.

We then get a bonding moment between Joel and Ellie as he tries to teach her how to shoot. She kept flinching but Joel puts a round exactly where he wanted to.

As they ride Joel and Ellie discuss what life was like before the outbreak. They are talking about football on day five when we can see the city of Colorado in the distance.

Colorado

Joel and Ellie are riding their horse into the university when they see monkeys playing in the open. It is not long before they see a Firefly logo and follow it into what appears to be an empty building. Inside they find assorted medical gear and a packing list. When they hear noises coming from upstairs they go to investigate. Because that is what people do when there are infected about right?

It’s not long before Joel and Ellie find themselves interrupted by raiders. They run to the horse but a raider sticks Joel with the end of a baseball bat before they can flee.

Man Down

The two escape the college but Joel is bleeding out. He falls off the horse before Ellie can grab him. Ellie cries and tells Joel she can’t do it without him as the camera zooms out.

Kin ends on a cliffhanger. Joel is on the snowy ground, bleeding.

The Cliffhanger!

Kin Scoring

Kin has Joel and Tommy re-uniting. What should have been nothing but a happy event get’s clouded by the fact that Tommy really didn’t want Joel to find him.

There is a lot of emotional growth and storytelling going on in Kin but sadly the episode does not have much action. That is going to cost Kin  some points.

Overall it was a good episode that propelled the story along. It had lots of emotional drama but only a little bit of action and scores a 90/100, making it Worth Your Time.

Resident Evil: Season 1, Episode 6

Resident Evil: Season 1, Episode 6, Someone’s Little Girl, was thankfully almost all in the “here and now”. Unfortunately it also desperately tried to check off every “dumb mistake” that gets peoples killed in survival situations.

Resident Evil: Season 1, Episode 6, Someone's Little Girl
Resident Evil

Jade is captured and re-united with Billie, but of course Billie isn’t really the bad guy. Billie wants us to believe she’s actually on Jade’s side. Jade seems to buy it. Without much thought about how long Billie has hunted her, she just lets herself get taken back to her headquarters.

Really? No one checks Jade’s gear for trackers or bugs? No one can scan for whatever technology they use for a tracking signal?

And most egregiously Jade then brings a Zombie onto the floating headquarters. She then does a piss poor job of restraining the thing too! How about doing her tests in a locked down area instead of one right on the main path?

That scene had me screaming at my monitor. Really? This is how someone who has survived functions with a biter around?

Scoring: Someone’s Little Girl

Episode 6, Someone’s Little Girl, scored a 25/100 because it felt like a copy and paste from lots of other bad television shows.

If you need your Resident Evil fix, I’d go back to the classics.

Black Summer, Season 2, EPISODE 6

Currency opens with a small group of survivors who finally find one of the crates. My brother pointed out that it looked like it in the Umbrella Corporation colors, and now I can’t unsee it:

Umbrella Corp?

Just as they are opening it up a lone militia man stumbles upon them, rifle at the ready.

Did You Find My Stuff?

The lone gunman offers to share what’s in the crate if they help him get the crate over the mountain. He tells them they have a choice. Take what they want and eat for a few days, or help him and have supplies for days. I guess that settled it for them. Time to be sled dogs.

Black Summer, Season 2

We then cut over to Rose, Anna, and their guide, the simple mechanic are marching through the snow. The Mechanic has promised them someplace warm. He thinks he’s found a marker, saying they are going in the right direction, but Rose is concerned. It’s getting dark, and he’s clearly not right in the head so she tries to give him some motivation.

Company introduces another two groups to each other. All while the main militia group and another find themselves at another crate, this one full of weapons.

Push begins what I think is a silly bit of story. Despite the crate being heavy, the group who is trying to move the gear decides to haul it along it in the crate! Come on, make a few sling backpacks and hump that gear out of there. Taking the extra weight of all the wooden crating is just dumb.

The Ridge takes us back to Rose, Anna, and the Mechanic as he struggles to find his promised safe place. Rose isn’t very accepting of his confusion and takes him out onto the ridge. She is going to kill him – but is saved because Anna is there. Rose shows that even though she has killed, she’s not heartless. Even if the Mechanic hasn’t shown them the way yet, she doesn’t believe he’s leading them in bad faith.

Saved By Anna

Offering picks up right where Company left off. The new group is waiting for the militia to pick the gear they want so they can have a go at the crate when the new groups leader pops one of the bent over militiamen so they now outnumber them.

This kicks off a standoff that is interrupted by Zombies before Sun begs them not to do it. Why? I doesn’t make any sense to me, but it does get the Militia Leader to take her cuffs off in thanks.

The whole segment didn’t make sense to me. If someone popped one of the Militia, I don’t see any way they are just going to let the other guys just walk away?

Basically, Pull just continues the silliness with predictable results. The path is snowy and steep and people are behind a heavy wooden crate. Anyone want to take bets on what happens? Of course the load slips free, killing one who becomes a Zombie who slowly crawls towards the wounded militia man. The silly approach get two men killed.

The last segment with Rose, Anna, and the Mechanic have them cover over a rise to see the ski resort in the distance – they made it.

Currency Scoring

Currency was by far the weakest episode of Black Summer, Season 2, so far. It had a lot of silly plot points and had people acting in ways that didn’t really make sense to me, making Currency the worst scoring episode so far with a 69/100.

iZombie , Season 2, Episode 6

Max Wager opens with Major being in a very good mood. The reason is pretty obvious when Liv follows him in. Liv is wearing a long button down that barely covers her ass…ets.

Omelette You Finish

We then cut over to Detective Babineaux as he leaves court, his convict gloating in a plea deal that got him into a minimum security unit. The gloating doesn’t last long however, as someone shows up to take care of business.

Witness To A Witness Murder

Back in the lab, Ravi is questioning Liv as they pick bullets out of the victim. He’s alarmed that if Major and Liv have sex, she might give him Zombism. Luckily for Liv, Ravi cares enough to make her promise not to do just assume condoms will protect Major until he does some tests.

With Clive wanting Liv’s “Psychic” help, she goes to town by making some victim clam treats.

Victim Clam Surprise

Out on the beat, Clive is chatting with his FBI girlfriend when Liv and Major walk up. Liv’s new brain has her betting on little things while Major learns why the FBI agent, Dale Bozzio, is there. The news doesn’t make him feel any better. Agent Bozzio is there to investigate the missing people. The very same missing people that Major abducted and murdered because they were on the Max Rager Zombie hit list.

While Blaine is getting his business taken over by his Zombie Dad, Liv is losing every bet she makes, which triggers a memory of the victim losing big bucks to his bookie, which brings the bookie into focus.

This leads Liv to Stacy Boss, who just happens to also be the target of Peyton’s investigation, which bring her face to face with her target, who just happens to be in her office, and willing to threaten her.

Back at the police station Clive, Liv and Agent Bozzio discover what the victim had hiding in his turtle tank. This leads Liv and Clive (eventually) back to the basketball star, who killed his friend for fear he’d leak their college cheating scam from years gone by.

While Liv and Major are getting hot and heavy, Ravi is discovering that the Zombie Virus passes through latex, making Liv and Major’s passionate plans potentially fatal. Ravi gets to the house just in time to ruin Liv’s plans.

Max Wager ends with Major taking care of Blaine’s problems by kidnapping Blaine’s Zombie Dad.

I’m going to give Max Wager a 75/100. It was a solid episode with some laughs and decent twists, making it Worth Your Time.

The Walking Dead, Season 2, Episode 6

After how Chupacabra ended with Glen finding the walkers in Hershel’s barn, I guess Secrets is the perfect name for Episode 6.

Secrets opens with Carl back on his feet, feeding the chickens with Lori. Which leads to one of Hershel’s daughters collecting some of those chickens to feed to the walkers in the barn.

Which leads to Maggie bribing Glen to be quiet. Apparently she doesn’t know how to bribe a guy? Food?

Bribery

After Maggie gives Glen his basket of food, we get to see Andrea apologize to Daryl for winging him with a rifle. Daryl is cool with it though, he knows she thought he was a Zombie. Such a good guy.

Glen then gets into Lori’s business in an unwelcome way, telling her she has a medical condition because she’s preggo. Needless to say Lori hasn’t told anyone, and Glenn doesn’t understand why it might be an issue because he doesn’t know she’s a few weeks in – a few weeks longer than Rick has been back maybe?

We then get one of those silly moments. Carl wants to learn to shoot, and Lori is against it. It’s the Zombie Apocalypse for god’s sake, give your kid the tools to survive woman!!!

Glen then does exactly what Maggie asked him not to do, and tells Dale about the walkers, and about Lori’s pregnancy. Dale covers for Glen and tells Hershel he discovered the barn while out for a walk.

We then get our second dose of silliness in the season. Hershel is keeping the walkers because he believes they are still people. His wife and stepson are in there.

While talking to Hershel Lori finds out that the invitation to stay on the farm has an expiration date, and then realizes that her secret is out when Dale tries to comfort her after she gets nauseous when he’s cooking. Lori is not happy to have her secret out, which leads Lori to ask Glen to make another pharmacy run.

This in turn shows us Maggie’s mad face.

Mad Maggie

She is pissed, and her attitude doesn’t get much better when Glen hands her his shopping list. He might not know what the meds are, but I think she does.

Unfortunately for Maggie, there is a walker in the pharmacy. Luckily for her Glen is there to take care of business, which also exposes her to just how dangerous walkers are.

Maggie Almost Gets Eaten

While saving Maggie may have put Glen back in her Maggie’s good graces, Maggie is still pissed, she’s just mad at Lori now for making Glen go into town for the morning after pill. This also leads to Maggie telling Glen that she does see who he is, and that she does care for him, she just can’t bear the thought of losing anyone else she cares about.

We then cut over to Shane and Andrea making a run into a nearby housing development to look for Sophia, but all they find is a neighborhood full of walkers. This leads to Shane showing off his shooting skills:

While also giving Andrea the moment she needs to find her shooting mojo against walker targets. Shane forces her to clear her weapon and take care of the walker coming at her, which does seem to help her.

Maggie Clears A Jam

Andrea in turn thanks Shane for teaching her by grabbing his crotch on the way back to the farm. The camera pulls back to the car stopped on the road. We hear a horn and then cut away as Shane and Andrea get busy.

Back at the farm, Lori decides to take the morning after pill, then sticks her finger down her throat, unable to do it.

Dale is there when Shane comes back with Andrea, and he is very perceptive. He knows that something happened between Shane and Andrea and Dale basically tells Shane to get in his car and leave. Dale saw Shane aim at Rick in the woods, and he doesn’t trust him. Dale shares a bit too much with Shane though, and gets threatened in return.

Back in the Grimes tent Rick finds the morning after pill which leads him to go and confront Lori. She tells him she’s pregnant, and he asks if she still is, and she admits to puking up the pills. Rick is pissed that she was keeping it secret, but he is also convinced they can make it work.

This leads to Rick asking Lori if there is anything else he needs to know, and Lori admits that she and Shane were bang buddies. Of course she puts it in less graphic terms.

Bang Buddies

Rick takes this way to well in my opinion. He basically puts words in her mouth about how she thought he was dead. Am I just nuts or would he be a little more pissed – especially since she’s preggo? Can he be sure its his? He couldn’t have survived for long on that hospital bed with no care, which means she had to jump into the sack with Shane pretty quick – and or was already in the sack with Shane. Shane is a ladies man, he was even banging a teacher in highs chool, and Rick and Lori were having issues. Is it so hard to believe they were playing tag long before the apocalypse?

I’m giving Secrets an 85/100. The points are coming off because of the silly, counter intuitive logic used in several of the situations. Still Worth Your Time, but there are times when Secrets left me scratching my head.

Z Nation Season 3, Episode 6

Doc Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest opens with Doc wandering around the woods. He’s unable to find Team Warren after taking a potty break. As he looks for his friends he gets bashed over the head by Elvis and wakes up in a straight jacket. Welcome to the Serenity Falls Institution for the Criminally Insane.

Doc or Doctor?

The head nurse wants to make sure Doc is a real Doc. She heard him say his name while complaining out in the woods. After Doc passes the test of diagnosing the other hospital patients, the nurse lets Doc out of his straight jacket so he can help her with another new guest she’s got locked up. The other new guest keeps talking about blue men and a mission to planet Zona.

Doc has found 10K, but 10K doesn’t look like he’s in good shape. He appears to be suffering from Murphy withdrawal? Bad news for 10K, the nurse wants to give him a lobotomy to help calm him down.

When 10K starts to have seizures the nurse wants to do and emergency lobotomy. Doc challenges decision and wants to try meds first. This leads to Doc and Elvis going on a mission into the Zombie controlled area of the hospital to get to the pharmacy.

Pharmacy Mission

Elvis takes out the first Zombie and Doc takes out the second by plugging his shock treatment helmet into a light fixture.

Sparky

Doc and Elvis just barely make it out of the psyche ward as the nurse is prepping 10K for his lobotomy. When Doc makes it to the surgical suit the nurse is covered in blood.

He’s A Bleeder

Lucky for 10K, she was practicing on another patient first. Doc is able to convince the nurse that he’ll take care of 10K. Thanks to Doc’s pharmaceutical skills 10K wakes up, at least long enough to confirm he can communicate again. Afterwards Doc uses his pharmacy knowledge to treat the rest of the patients. The other patients are getting real meds for the first time in ages.

The good vibes don’t last long. When Doc and 10K try to make their escape they are caught. Both of them end up in straight jackets again. Things are about to go very badly for Doc when the lobotomy test subject saves the day.

As Doc leads the surviving patients through the psyche ward to reach the hospital bus, the Zombies at the front of the hospital have made it through the make shift barricade. With a small horde approaching the psyche patients drive away, leaving Doc and 10K behind.

As Doc is trying to move 10K he finds the bite, and realizes exactly what is wrong with 10K.

Doc Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest ends with Doc leading 10K to safety as the sun sets. Thankfully 10k is in good hands with Doc.

iZombie , Season 1, Episode 6

Virtual Reality Bites starts with a scare. After seeing Major get the snot beat out of him the episode starts with him lying on the ME’s table. Thankfully, he’s alive, he’s just having Ravi start some stitches, which Liv then takes over. As Liv is working on him, Major tells her that he found the “Candy Man”. Major is sure that the shoes he saw on his assailant belonged to one of his kids.

Major Head Wound

Blaine’s Booty Call

Out in the wide world Blaine’s booty call is hungry, and her delivery doesn’t quite show up fast enough. She tries to cover it up by telling Blaine her delivery never showed up. Blaine he doesn’t look like he believes her.

When we come back from the first break, we have a new body. A shut in is found rotten and swollen after his overflowing mail resulted in a police wellness check. Liv doesn’t want to eat the rotten brains, but as Ravi puts it, she “sucks it up” for the team. Her first vision of the deceased is of the man struggling to breath while trying to use an epi pen.

Later, at the station, Clive and Liv look through the victims mail. One of the birthday cards smells like peanuts.

Later that night Liv is about to go out on her date with her new Zombie love interest when her victim’s brains kick in. It’s hard to go outside with agoraphobia. On the plus side, Liv does have her victims muscle memory, which means she can sign into her victims laptop when Ravi brings it to her. Liv gets sucked into an online game but it seems like a false start when the online “killer” ends up on the far side of the country, and is just a tween.

After Liv’s night of crime fighting, her Zombie beau shows up, which leads to a failed lean in for a kiss before Liv get’s sucked back into her case.

While Liv is working on her love life Clive finds himself in Blaine’s shop, investigating the dead delivery boy from earlier in the episode. This leads Blaine back to Jacky’s for one final drilling.

One Last Drilling

As Blaine is taking care of business, Liv is breaking into a donut shop’s records so she can find the real killer.

Virtual Reality Bites Scoring

Virtual Reality Bites scored a 76/100, making it Worth Your Time. It’s a fun, interesting episode that has a bit of a sad ending.

Z Nation, Season 2, Episode 6

The team is in Springfield, Illinois, and things aren’t good. Zombie Baby Daddy starts with the team surrounded. The only thing left to do is to kick some Zombie ass. This fight also confirms a few things we learned from last episode, Zombaby. The Zombies are attracted to Lucy, and Murphy’s power over them doesn’t work when they are locked on her.

This leads to several awesome Zombie Kills in the first three minutes of the episode.

First we see 10K using gears as sling shot projectiles…

10K Sling Shot Kill

Followed up by Warren with some slick machete work…

Warren Working the Machete

A Lot Of Lincolns

Doc also has a brief moment where he’s not sure if he’s having a bad trip when he comes fact to face with a bus full of Abraham Lincolns. I love Doc and the fun he brings to every episode.

Zombie Lincolns

After the team takes care of the immediate Zombie threat they flee into the woods. Team Warren finds itself with two objectives. The first is for Warren to track down Vasquez. Meanwhile Addy, 10K, and Doc try to assess whether Lucy is going to become a threat, or a savior as she grows.

Addy, Doc, and 10K’s attempts to get Murphy to let them hold the baby only spooks Murphy. This forces him deeper into the woods, where Lucy’s Zombie attractive powers brings out a few Zombified woodland critters.

Zombie Critters

The Zombie critters end up chasing Murphy deeper into the woods. This leads him to a small homestead protected by a man and woman. Murphy realizes he can’t take care of Lucy with everyone so focused on her, so he does what every Zombie Dad would do. He makes two zombie slaves to take care of his baby.

Zombie Baby Sitters

While Murphy is taking care of his child care situation, Warren and Vasquez are forced to fight for their lives, all while Vasquez reveals how was originally a federal agent before he was compromised by the cartels, and both Warren and Vasquez get to do some surgery on the other. They both make it, but everyone else isn’t so lucky.

Cassandra is blindly loyal to Murphy, and in the process of trying to protect her maker, she hurts Addy, then pushes 10K too far. He’s forced to protect himself, or die, and in the end, it costs Cassandra her life.

Doc tries his best to make 10K feel better, but 10K had feelings for her, which makes her death even harder to deal with. She was 10K’s 3255th kill, and Murphy is pissed, but Warren keeps things from devolving into a fist fight.

Team Murphy has to continue on, for humanities sake.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Season 1, Episode 6

Shadow Puppets begin with our survivors finding a young man lurking in the woods not far from their camp. There is a brief stand off before Percy is forced to drop his weapon. He has no food and no gear on him because he’s been robbed.

Percy

Iris takes pity on the kid and gives him some food.

I actually felt mad, then sad, that one of the most intense moments of the season so far is when Percy is telling his story of walking down a highway in the snow when he hears a herd coming. He can’t find an unlocked car, and he’s basically ready to give up. He climbs up on the roof of a vehicle, and shuts his eyes, preparing for the end.

Only when he does open his eyes, its a herd of buffalo.

This scene really made me question the casting choices for our main group. They are okay actors, but they don’t bring any intensity to these characters.

At a minimum Silas and Iris need to get eaten, then we can decide how the others hold up. Sorry, just being brutally honest.

Percy’s Story

As Percy is telling his story he says a few things that don’t seem plausible, not if he had to walk. But if he had a car…

With the promise of wheels to get Iris and Hope to their father the team decides to help Percy get his vehicle back. The team follows Percy into an abandoned town and get led on a bit of a wild goose hunt.

Not everything is exactly what it seems, and it turns out Percy and his Uncle have just been pulling an elaborate con to try and steal supplies. In the end, they all make nice, but there were a lot of things about this episode that I found really annoying.

There are so many times when Percy’s con could have gone horribly wrong. Some groups would probably of just killed him outright when he showed up. Then there is the fact that he had to rely on them picking up on how fast he travelled? Was he just going to keep dropping hints until they realized he had a car? Even if the group did let Percy live originally, once they know there is a vehicle involved, and he told them roughly where the vehicle was, they could have killed him then, and then gone after the wheels. Lastly, when they find the vehicle and Percy’s Uncle is playing possum, someone could have decided to stick him anyway, just to make sure.

Shadow Puppets Scoring

The whole set up seems overly contrived and complicated, which is the main reason that Shadow Puppets scores a 60/100.

At least there were garbage zombies to make the episode a little better.
