The Siege of Murphytown opens with a picturesque image of Addy flying down a country road, trying to catch up to The Man so she can rescue Lucy. It’s not long before she finds The Man’s car at a gas station surrounded by dead Zombies. She’s found the vehicle, but where are they?
Meanwhile Kaya is keeping on eye on Murphytown from Camp Northern Light as Citizen Z is heading south with Kaya’s grandfather Kaskae. As Kaya is monitoring Murphytown she confirms that Warren is onsite via facial recognition.
Whatever 10K/Thomas’s mission is, he doesn’t make it very far before he’s captured by Warren. She’s on a mission to bring Murphy back into the fold. Once Warren’s got 10K/Thomas in her control she also finds the note that Murphy gave him. Murphy wants Warren, dead or alive. Just after Warren gives 10K another vaccine, hoping to free him if she can, Murphy shows up to talk.
Murphy has the Red Hand and Warren surrounded and outgunned. He’s willing to allow some of them to join him, or they can be his enemies. Murphy leaves, and takes 10K/Thomas with him. So is 10K fully under Murphy’s control or did the shot Warren give him free him?
Even after Murphy surprised them, Warren still moves forward with her assault. Murphy seems to know its coming, so I don’t honestly understand why he didn’t just gun down Warren and the Red Hand?
While Warren is heading into Murphtown Kaya is able to get her attention, but isn’t able to send any super helpful information before the communication drops.
Things get a little chaotic after that. 10K and the powerplant supervisor get attacked by the Red Hand and 10K only survives because Red shows up to drag him away, but I honestly don’t know if its another 10K delusion or if she’s real this time.
After that, the Red Hand pulls of their “Front Gate Distraction” which revolved around torturing one of the female blends by attaching her to a winch and not letting her be rescued while the rest of the Red Hand opens up on Murphytown.
Murphy’s power stems from taking away his peoples fear, and its clear in the way that Murphy reacted, by forcing the fear out of their minds so that they can fight, that he’s losing that control.
Warren uses the distraction to sneak in and ends up coming face to face with one of Murphy’s first bite victims, and takes her down with a machete. This was honestly a little brutal. As the woman is dying, she tells Warren that Murphy loved her.
The Red Hand is getting destroyed. There are just too many Murphy blends, and Zombies in the moat for them to carry the day. They do buy Warren the time she needs to confront Murphy though.
While Warren is confronting Murphy, 10K confronts Dr. Sun Mei, and we get a very touching moment between Red and 10K when 10K tells her that whenever he’s in trouble, a vision of her comes to try and save him, but she’s not real. Dr. Sun Mei sees her too, and that means Red is real!!!
Meanwhile Warren is confronting Murphy, and confirms what she suspected by holding out some yummy brains that he can’t resist. Warren has the drop on him at first, but with the Red Hand defeated, the rest of the Murphy Blends arrive to back Warren up.
Warren is saved from immediate danger when Citizen Z shows up with the message that The Man has Lucy.
As Citizen Z is letting Kaya know he’s safely at Murphyton and they are going to go after Lucy, Kaya telling Citizen Z that she missed her period, which leads to an awesome Morse code code.
I love Citizen Z’s reaction. He’s psyched to be a father is going to come home to be with her.
The Siege of Murphytown ends with Addy still on The Man and Lucy’s trail, and Lucy is helping by leaving Zombies pointing the way.
The Siege of Murphytown scored a 70/100. The main reason is this episode crossed over that line of being quirky and violent into being believable. When the Zombie Blend is screaming, being pulled back by the winch, her voice is really haunting. The terror in her voice was too real and seemed a little out of sync with the overall vibe of the series, so it cost it some points.
