ZOMBIE SERIES – Z NATION, SEASON 3, EPISODE 8, Election Day

Election Day starts with a nice squish as we see several survivors rolling down the road in an RV and taking out several Zombies in the process.

RV Versus Zombies

After we see the Zombies lose to the RV, we cut over to Doc and 10K, stranded on the side of the road, at least until the Presidential Motorcade comes rolling along.

Presidential Motorcade

Or if it’s not the president, it is at least Sketchy and Skeezy, and they have stolen Clinton’s limo from his presidential museum and are using it, combined with a few new dance partners, to grift what they can from survivors.

Dance party

While Sketchy and Skeezy are running their con, a young woman comes up, begging for help. Her husband and a bunch of other survivors are sick. Sketchy ignores her, but Doc offers to take a look, even if there isn’t much he can do. The sick all have strange yellow streaking through their eyes.

Yellow Fever?

As Sketchy & Skeezy deal with their presidential competition, we see the RV from the opening scenes approaching town from one direction as a small horde comes in from the other.

The Zombies arrive just in time to interfere with Skeezy’s presidential debate which leads to a presidential zombie hunt, which of course means Addy had to step in to save the day.

Hammer Time

As Addy kicks some Zombie *ss Doc has found the source of the yellow eye disease. The filter on the town’s reservoir had a Zombie head in it. Lucky for the town’s survivors, Doc watched some Naked & Afraid before the apocalypse and shows the town’s mayor how to fix it using charcoal.

We then find out who the men in the RV are. They’ve been scammed by the fake presidents and want some revenge.

Election Day ends with Doc and Addy using the chaos to escape in the stolen presidential limo. It’s time for them to get back to their main mission of finding Lucy.

Election Day was a fun episode with some good Zombie kills, which is always a plus. Election Day scored 80/100, making it Worth Your Time.

Things I Loved About This Episode:

  • The opening RV Zombie Kill.
  • The way Addy checked out the dancing girls.
  • Addy going to town on the Zombie with a mallet.
  • Zombie pom pom girls.
  • The fact that Doc won the election at the end.

ZOMBIE SERIES – Z NATION, SEASON 3, EPISODE 3, Murphy’s Miracle

Murphy’s Miracle picks up right where A New Mission left off. Team Murphy is on the road, and get stuck behind the only other car in a thousand miles. Murphy is ticked at first, but when he goes to check what’s the holdup he finds that there is a sick kid who is about to turn in the other car. What does Murphy do? I guess he saves her? Is it really saving her if she ends up like Cassandra?

Miracle Or Murder

While Murphy is playing god, Team Warren thinks they are hot on his tracks only to find out that Murphy was leading them on a wild goose chase after hiding the tracker on a Zombie. As Team Warren is looking for a vehicle they come across a food truck that is surrounded by Zombies, and we get introduced to the town’s mailman, who doesn’t want any of his Zombies hurt.

Surrounded

Up in the arctic Kaya is pepping Citizen Z up, trying to get him to understand how important he was. His transmitter is dead, and without it he’s just Simon, but Kaya doesn’t buy it. People need to hear the voice of hope, to know that everything isn’t lost. I love Kaya’s attitude! A little bit later kaya reveals her softer side, breaking down when Citizen Z tells her there is no one left to hear him even if did get back on the radio. They are just about to smooch when the radio distracts them. A little bit later at dinner Citizen Z discovers that while Kaya and her family have been incredibly kind to him, the small family is almost out of food. Lucky for them, Citizen Z knows where there is more food.

While Team Murphy is exploring Spokane, Team Warren is helping the Postman in exchange for gas and supplies. As they are helping him the realize something is very odd in town. The Zombies in town are very focused on the Postman, and it doesn’t seem natural. They corner the Postman, thinking maybe he’s been bit by Murphy or has some other power, going so far as to make sure he’s not doing, well, other things, with the undead.

Sexual Contact

With the heat on, The Postman just wants Team Warren gone, so he agrees to take them into the basement shelter to get supplies, which is when they start to find dead mail carriers who’ve been shot in the head. That is just about when the Postman opens a door, leaving Team Warren to fight for their lives in the near dark. This leads to what I think is the Best Zombie Kill of the episode when Hector goes to town with a Cancelled stamp.

Cancelled

When the fighting is done Team Warren finds the real Postmaster among the dead zombies, confirming their suspicions that something wasn’t right.

While Warren, Doc, Addy, and Hector are locked in the basement the Postman goes back upstairs and takes Dr. Sun Mei prisoner at gunpoint, leading her to his torture dungeon.

Torture Dungeon

Once in the Dungeon, the Postman reveals his true nature. He killed his townsfolk because he was angry at how they treated him, and jealous of their lives. The townspeople aren’t following him because he feeds them, or love him, they are following him because he was the last thing they say before dying.

Dr. Sun Mei is able to save throw a jar of ichor at the Postman and save herself long enough to open the dungeon door so the Zombie townspeople can take their revenge.

Murphy’s Miracle ends with Murphy sitting on his self proclaimed throne as 10K struggles with being under Murphy’s influence when the family from the opening scenes shows up, wanting to thank Murphy for saving their daughter, who is not longer scared.

It’s Good To Be King

Not only do they want to thank him, but the husband wants Murphy to bite his wife. Murphy is smiling as Murphy’s Miracle comes to an end.

Murphy’s Miracle scored an 80/100. I really liked the twist with the postman and loved the progression of Citizen Z’s story, which is why this episode is Worth Your Time.

WHISKEY DREAMS – Fistfull of BOURBON MANHATTAN

I was a little disappointed in Fistful of Bourbon as a sipper. It scored a 53/100 when ranked against other sipping options. You can read the full review here.

What do I do with bourbon that isn’t sip worthy? I make Manhattans of course.

If you can find or buy this online at the $25 price point, this is a great bottle to make mixed drinks. The Vermouth and Orange Bitters takes this rough edged bourbon and turns it into a smooth, tasty, Manhattan.

I feel like I got ripped off as I payed $40 bucks for my bottle of Fistful of Bourbon. At $25 this would be a great bottle for mixed drinks like a Manhattan.

A Fistful of Bourbon Manhattan scored an 80/100, and mixes into Sip Worthy Manhattan.

Pros

  • Makes a tasty Manhattan.
  • Benefits from the sweetness of the Vermouth.

Cons:

  • I would not pick up another bottle of Fistful of Bourbon unless I can find it at the $25 price point.

ZOMBIE SERIES – IZOMBIE , SEASON 1, EPISODE 13, Blaine’s World

Blaine’s World begins with Blaine and Julien in a panic, trying to find the brains that Major stole, and which Blaine has already sold for a lot of money.

Major Cold Spell

Julien has searched everywhere he can think of, but he can’t find the brains, and Major’s not in a talking mood. He knows if he tells them he gave them to Liv to test, he’s going to be putting her in danger. He’d rather freeze to death than put Liv at danger.

While Major is freezing, Liv, Clive, and Ravi are at the MEs office, and they’ve got Miss Giovanni on their table. Miss Giovanni didn’t survive the beat down. Liv does her thing, making a Giovanni sandwich.

As Liv is eating, Ravi has made more progress. Their second Zombie Rat has turned Normal Rat, but they only have one dose, and Ravi doesn’t have enough ingredients to make more. As Liv and Ravi are discussing the cure, Liv get’s a vision and a lot of puzzle pieces fall into place.

Assassin Zombie had saved the video proof of Zombie life, and when the kids hit him with their car, they took his wallet, and the memory card inside it. Now Max Rager Corp needs to cover their tracks, and it doesn’t matter how many people they kill, or die from the Zombie Virus.

We then cut to the CEO of Max Rager, Vaughn Du Clark, recruiting a new chief scientist after the last one got a little too close to an angry and hungry Zombie.

As Vaughn Du Clark is ending his interview, Liv and Clive shows up, which is perfect timing as Max Rager’s new chief scientist wants to see a Zombie in action, and they know Liv isn’t human.

Back in the freezer, Blaine promises Major that he’s going to keep him just cold enough to suffer, but not die. Blaine wants to know where his Astronaut Brains are, and he’s willing to torture Major to get the information.

Out in the wild, Max Rager’s team has bought the thumb drive, but the only surviving teen was smart enough to pay a hobo to watch his, car, which saves his life when he gets waved off a minute before his car goes boom!

Boom

The kids thinks he made it out with the bag of money but when he starts to paw through it, he finds that he’s not the only smart one. The Max Rager agents have put a tracker in the cash.

Cash Tracker

So if they were going to blow up the car with the money, why not just put some explosives in the bag too?

As the surviving kid tries to flee, he’s picked up by the police and ends up in the police interrogation room with Liv and Clive. The kid wants a deal, to be tried as a minor, but Clive has other ideas. The kid can cooperate or they will let him go so he can take his chances on the street, and the kid is smart enough to know he’s dead once he leaves the police station.

When Ravi gets home he calls Liv because Major hasn’t come home. Liv decides she has to lie to Major about the brains he gave her, and tells him they are Monkey Brains, but by texting Major she lets Blaine know exactly where his products are. Liv does the only thing she can, and agrees to exchange Major for the brains.

Liv, being the trusting soul that she is, hands over the brains before she confirms that they actually gave her Major. While Liv is being tricked, Major is setting a blaze in the freezer with the lighter he found on the dead kid, and affects an escape.

This gives him enough time to go back to his vehicle and get strapped, which includes a grenade. Major is in the mood to even a few scores.

Majorly Pissed Off

This leads to Major kicking some ass. Blaine has just lost four employees, and returns with Julien just as Major is completing his work on the first four. Julien ends up in the freezer with a grenade, but before Major can take care of Blaine, he gets a knife to get guts.

Blaine leaves Major to bleed out when Liv walks into the front of the Butcher Shop and puts a bullet in Blaine, thinking that Major is already dead. Blaine is rubbing his power into Liv’s nose when she stabs him with the dose of the cure she was going to give herself.

Human Again

Blaine flees, human again, while Liv looks at Major who is about to die, and does the only thing she can think of to save him, and scratches him.

Liv takes Major back to her apartment and tries to explain why she did what she did, but Major isn’t exactly happy that she turned him. Liv is hoping they can be together as they are both Zombies, but Major is hurt and angry. Liv has done nothing but lie to him, and even allowed let him admit himself to a Psyche ward rather than tell him the truth.

While Liv is getting her soul crushed, Suzuki has realized that without the butcher shop he doesn’t have a source of food, and blows himself, and the shop up just as Liv’s brother is arriving for his first day of work.

After the police show up Clive realizes that everything isn’t quite what it seems, and even though Suzuki set it up to look like he went down with a fight, Clive has some intuition that Major was involved.

Blaine’s World ends on a heartbreaking note. Liv’s brother is in surgery with multiple shrapnel wounds and lots of blood loss.

Brother Down

The doctors need blood, and Liv is a potential downer. The screen goes dark as Liv is telling her mother no, she can’t give her brother blood, but she also can’t tell them the real reason.

The Season 1 finale has some great action when Major goes on the attack and rapped up a lot of storylines in a very satisfactory manner. I’m going to give Blaine’s World an 80/100 making it Worth Your Time. If you have someone in your life who isn’t a zombie fan, but does like murder mystery shows, this is a must watch that you will both enjoy.

ZOMBIE SERIES – BLACK SUMMER, SEASON 1, EPISODE 2, Drive

Drive picks up, you guessed it, in the minivan with William, Sun, and Barbara trying to make it to the stadium, which is supposed to be a rally point for evacuation.

William is the leader of this group, Barbara is scared and insecure, and Sun is a determined, but hampered by her inability to communicate well. They are trying to navigate through streets full of abandoned cars and peoples belongings when they spot the black pickup, which appears to be pacing them.

Black Track Pacing Them

William thinks he’s lost them but in the process drives down an alley with several survivors trying to hijack their minivan, or maybe just take their supplies. This gets a kids bike stuck under the rear of the minivan, which leads to the Best Zombie Kill of the episode.

Car Kill

Unfortunately for Team William, the success isn’t long lived. They barely get a little further down the road when the Black Truck finds them and we get to see a minivan drift around some corners in a post apocalyptic car chase.

Team William thinks they’ve gotten away, but you know that’s not quite how it works. There is a final car chase, and I do mean final, because Barbara bites it when William get’s distracted and drives head long into a truck carrying concrete barriers. The vehicles are wrecked, but William, Sun, and the other survivors make it into a diner before the infected can chase them down.

Rose and Spears, and their two companions aren’t as lucky as William, they are forced to walk. They don’t get far before they see a man and a woman trying to run from one of the infected. It’s an intense scene that shows us just how dangerous the infected are. Within seconds of being bitten, the woman becomes a starving monster.

Bitten & Turned

Team Rose makes it around the attack site and continue on their stroll. We get more evidence of just how bad things have gotten as they pass by a car that appears to have been hijacked.

Thus ends Driven.

ZOMBIE SERIES – Z NATION, SEASON 1, EPISODE 12, Murphy’s Law

Murphy’s Law finds Team Murphy forced off the road by a traffic jam, which leads them to a defunct golf course crawling with zombies.

Post Apocalyptic Traffic Jam

Things don’t go well for the team once they at the golf course. There are too many zombies rushing them, and not enough bullets left in their guns. The Team gets split up and Murphy gets left out in the mix while Warren and the other “normals” take shelter in a bathroom.

Things are looking good for the team, but lucky for them, another group of survivors rolls in, and they are well armed and clear out the clubhouse, saving the day. At least for a few minutes. The group of newcomers saw Murphy in the midst of the undead, and they realize he’s something special, and they want him.

A few drinks and roofies later and the newcomers steal away with murphy. leaving everyone else handcuffed to a zombie.

Cuffed to a Zombie

While the newcomers explain their plan to Murphy, the team is escaping from their cuffs. The plan is simple. The newcomers want Murphy to stroll through a pharmaceutical plant and get them oxy, because in the post apocalyptic world, oxy is money.

Citizen Z helps the team track Murphy once they escape their cuffs, while Murphy makes it into the plant.

Things go a little crazy at the end, and a major new Murphy Power is revealed. Thankfully, Team Murphy is united, kicks some butt, and gets ready for the season finale.

Murphy’s Law scored an 80/100 and is Worth Your Time. The Best Zombie Kill for this episode is clear, Warren is a zombie killing machine.

ZOMBIE SERIES – Z NATION, SEASON 1, EPISODE 3, Philly Feast

Philly Feast gives us Cassandra’s backstory, as well as give us a good picture of just how bad things are in Z Nation world. How bad? Well, let’s just say you aren’t going to want to have a Philly Cheesesteak post ZA.

There is a lot to love in Episode 3, Philly Feast. The first is the attention to detail. I’m pretty sure we see a bit of armpit hair when Cassandra takes her shirt off. Sure, it could be that she’s just adopted the European practice, but I’m going to give Z Nation credit for gluing it on there, because who has time to shave their pits when zombies are trying to eat you?

Cassandra’s Armpit Hair….Maybe?

The second was Citizen Z sharing a steak with his new dog friend, and the way they used that steak flipping to segue into the Family’s camp, which is where most of the action in Philly Feast takes place.

The third was seeing the Liberty Bell turn into a zombie killing projectile, which is also this episodes Best Zombie Kill:

Best Zombie Kill: Liberty Bell Zombie Killer

If you carefully in the lower right of the image, you can see the legs of the first zombie taken out by the Liberty Bell.

Overall, Philly Feast is a solid episode and scored an 80/100, putting it in the Worth Your Time category.

ZOMBIE SERIES – Z NATION, SEASON 1, EPISODE 2, Fracking Zombies

Fracking Zombies keeps up the fast paced action and expands the story on multiple fronts.

The crew escorting Murphy is focused on making a gas run, trying to fill up a tanker so they have all the fuel they need to make the long journey to California.

but for me the more powerful half of the episode revolved around Citizen Z. He’s been alone in the artic for a year and the isolation is getting to him. When he sees what appears to be another survivor, his heart swells with hope and joy.

The Best Zombie Kill is a toss up between Doc killing a zombie with his knife and Citizen Z doing his flying leap to kill a zombie dog. Let me know which one you think should win. The flying zombie dog kill would have been a clear winner, but we don’t get to see the whole thing.

WHISKEY DREAMS – Jameson

Jameson is a big deal. Last year sales passed 8+ million barrels in 130 countries. The Jameson journey started in Dublin in 1780, and had grown over the last centuries. Think about that for a moment. When you sip at your Jameson you are sipping at more than 200 years of careful craftsmanship.

That effort and craftsmanship really shine through in this blended whiskey. It is an amazingly drinkable blend that is completely Sip Worthy. I have to be honest, I am a complete snob when it comes to whiskey, but my son and his girlfriend picked up this bottle of Jameson to make Green Tea shots , and I tried it out of curiosity. My neanderthal brain tells me that any whiskey that comes with a twist cap can’t be that good – and at least when it comes to Jameson, it was completely wrong.

I got yelled at to stop drinking the Jameson because they weren’t going to have enough left to make mixed shots. All I can say after drinking a few drams is that making mixed drinks with this Jameson is a sin.

When it comes the collection, even this “base” Jameson is a credit to the brand.

Jameson Collection

If you want a very affordable, sippable Irish Whiskey you will enjoy this Jameson. It earned every point of its 80/100 and is ultimately very Sip Worthy.

Jameson

Pros

  • Amazingly affordable.
  • Easily found anywhere and everywhere you go.
  • Blended whiskey that hints at single malt greatness.

Cons:

  • It has a screw off top!!! (Yes, I know I’m a whiskey snob.)
  • It’s so good it makes you question the quest of finding the next great whiskey. Is good enough good enough?

WHISKEY DREAMS – Don Julio 1942

When I was much younger I used to enjoy drinking Tequila. I had a friend from Mexico and when his family would come up to visit they would bring local tequila in milk jugs. The distillery (I wish I could remember which one) would let them fill a jug for a dollar (30 pesos back then I think).

It was the finest tequila I’ve ever had.

Don Julio 1942 was very close to that.

It was smooth, so very smooth with a lovely vanilla mixed with agave.

Why did I have a bottle of Don Julio 1942? One of my son’s desperately needed a haircut, so he came over so I could cut his hair – which then turned into a board game night, which turned into us all getting drunk.

While there is some liquid left in this picture, it was gone shortly after.

I’ve become a bourbon and Irish Whiskey aficionado, but this tequila was delightful and well worth a sip, especially if someone else is paying for it, which earned it 80 out of 100 points.

Don Julio 1942

Pros

  • Amazingly smooth and rich.
  • Vanilla and agave in perfect unison.
  • Very sip worthy tequila.

Cons:

  • At $160, that is a very expensive bottle of tequila.
